I'm impressed by both participants' patience in taking so much time to explore the goal of the session.

Would love to know of more coaching demonstration videos out there, especially any where the coachee is not herself a coach.

Great conversation. Wondering why there are no recent videos.

I never tire of this excellent coaching demonstration, brilliant demonstration of deep listening, empathy, and strong rapport. I expect the coachee herself by now is a first class coach too (very self aware). Makes me proud of our profession. First class coach training demonstration. Olivia Woods

Lots of exploration did NOT get done during this session, despite the "right" coaching engagement. I applaud the space and patience that is given by the coach to allow the messiness and discomfort to unfold. Yet I can't help sensing that there could have been more practical exploration of what the coachee's insight means in real contexts and how it might look otherwise. The accountability actions are not necessarily delineated nor clearly set.

The clients biggest fears are to loose control and to be seen for who she really is, especially her being ok. During the whole conversation there seems to be not a single moment where she's not in full control. She completely controls the coaching by acting as the perfect client and paradoxically seems to hide behind her openness. What she ended up with is a rational (controlled) approach to how to deal with her thoughts that stop her without having experienced any of it. Neither the experience of the fear, nor the experience of not being in control and learning how to be fine with that. I believe the coaching could have been stronger if the client was being called out on her tendency to control everything, including this conversation and if the coach would have her experienced it instead of talking about it.

This is coaching not therapy. It isn't the coach's role to decide what the client needs to be thinking about - or to make any 'analysis' of who or what the client is or what they need to 'fix' in their life . In any coaching session a client should feel totally in control of their process - coaching is an adult to adult process without any hidden agendas. and an ICF coach keeps a totally open, non-judgemental mind. . As an excellent coach, Ailbhe is following the client's wishes and the client's choice of direction and she gets the client to where they want to go. Sure - a therapist might spot other issues but as I said, before this is coaching NOT therapy.

A coach coaching a coach and both are conscious of the terminology etc expected by ICF. Not very realistic nor useful as it proposes a perfect relationship rather than a.realistic one.

Although good space was given to the coachee to explore her own thinking process and thoughts coming forward it felt the coach was deliberately enabling the coachee to find the place, the goal that is powerful enough to work on and with. Space and time is important for a coachee to bring their own self awareness to the session however this can also mean the coachee feels unsupported in the seeking it process. Its important that the Coach keeps checking in and perhaps using VAK tool to identify where the goal is lying.

That was a breathing session where the coachee is faking things

Sorry but sounds like 2 coaches talking together rather than coach and client might have been better to be fair to the coach and used a more neutral person

It is very good example of coaching demo as PCC: deep listening, coaching state, create awreness, coaching agreement, establishing trust & itimacy. More interesting is that this is also a very good example of NLP skills to apply this coaching conversation!

I'm afraid I cannot agree this is an example of excellent coaching. Very much the opposite unfortunately. As a qualified coach with over 30 years experience, I was very disappointed indeed. There is a very thin line between compassion and collusion, between supportive space and indulgence, and between enquiry and niceness. The session had a feel of something almost scripted with an agreed outcome. I am not suggesting that was deliberate or arranged. It was most likely subconscious as opposed to deliberate. But the entire session was far too cosy. No challenge. No powerful questions. No attempt by the coach to open up new thinking, or facilitate forward momentum. Both coach and client tippy-toeing around each other, while the client seemed preoccupied about showing off her own coaching vocabulary. Oh dear!

The only problem with this example is that the coachee acted like the coach and the coachee. There was some ICF core competency examples here, perhaps you aren't aware of those due to your coaching training. ICF has very clear core competencies that are not reflected in other coaching associations.

The 'client' sounds fake. This is a bad example of coaching as both sound really scripted and unlike a spontaneous organic unearthing of a client's situation.

There is always a time limit when a client os being coached. That boundary is important.

It is the responsibility of the coach to ensure that the client gets what is most helpful for them in the time available.
