Maybe not perfect but i still see that as being a great day and great result and great progress over all.

What thoughts have been put into termite protection? I know they don't eat foam or concrete. But they can burrow inside and behind the foam all the way up to the roof.
@jonathanlombard88974 жыл бұрын
As soon as I saw the headers/lintels weren't strapped, I was nervous they would bulge/be difficult to align. One thing I've learned from building with icf since 2001 is where it needs additional bracing. It sure is a pain to have to rasp foam for hours to flatten it out!

Looked like the concrete was coming out of the hose pretty hard. Amazing the force the pump can do. Great to see yalls progress. You said gonna shave it flat. Does that mean you're pulling off the insulation in those spots or just shaving the insulation flat? Excited to see it get dried in! Thanks for the updates.
@strawberryenjoyer38984 жыл бұрын
Can you explain why you're doing ICF for the basement and first floor, but chose to wood frame the second floor? Is this a compromise for cost considerations or is there another reason why ICF made sense for the first floor, but not the second? I'm curious about your thought process because I've been planning/fantasizing a house that would be full ICF exterior walls from the basement to the second floor. Should ICF not go all the way to the roof? Change my mind! Great content, thanks for posting!

We’re doing it this way for a number of reasons. Window placement, cost, speed, etc.

Did you consider do the wall penetration for the dryer after the did the first lift to make sure there weren't any possible voids? If yes, what reasons did you have to not go that route? Thx
@grassabrutta4 жыл бұрын
Insulated concrete forms look pretty cool. I had been researching the inverse option of having MgO-foam-filled ("airkrete" insulation) concrete blocks or panels. I like the cement foam solutions since they are the best insulation and they do not burn. Polystyrene does burn, although it will do a reasonable job at retarding the flame. And, these ICF blocks make house building a straightforward affair it seems. [aside : 'airkrete' is different to portland-cement based 'aircrete' which is heavier and structural.] So, in making some decisions, I ended up at this question about the ICF approach : "How do I attach anything significant to the walls in my ICF poured garage or workshop ?" I cannot see any general wall strength that will support anything more than let's say some dry wall ... but certainly not anything the needs to anchor into a solid substrate (for example, a tool rack or hoist). How are people doing that in buildings made with ICF ?
