What a fucking injustice that the Enterprise couldn't be saved from the scrapyard. The most decorated ship in the US Navy, the ship that half won the Pacific War by itself, ignominiously cast aside. It makes me want to cry every time.

Maddog3060 Yeah, I can't believe they scrapped her and kept a bunch of other random ships (USS Intrepid?)
@Maddog306010 жыл бұрын
iChaseGaming I don't begrudge Intrepid so much, she at least did stuff during the war. But damn, the Enterprise, man, THE most storied ship in the US Navy, just sold for scrap... It's just wrong, man.
@bigbil969 жыл бұрын
Maddog3060 I agree that the Enterprise shouldn't have been sold for scrap, but there were other reasons it had to be decommissioned. SRAPPED however, I don't understand why they couldn't have just set it aside somewhere and left it until they could afford to make it a museum; almost makes me lose faith in Uncle Sam, for the government to "need the money back" soooo badly it made sense to scrap it. But the Big E wasn't the first Enterprise in the US Navy, it's been around for centuries. That being said, all we can hope for is that she lives on in that name, hopefully, gracing another US carrier sometime in the future. That's what I'd like to see happen anyway. I'd definitely prefer Enterprise to naming a ship after one of our "illustrious" presidents.

Sad thing is it could have been put on the mothball fleet in San Francisco bay (Susin to be accurate) I mean hell the Iowa was there since its decommissioning (late 80's) But there were several vessels there before the environmentalists came and said take them out that were from WW2 and Korea so it would have been possible

Absolutely devastating to know the Big E was scrapped. There are many ships that I can not fathom as to why they are scrapped. SHIPS IN THEIR PRIME!

You know, I just have to say in general, it makes me look forward to playing World of Warships with all of the people who watch on iChase's video's - especially this one, because if you've got the attention span to watch this documentary format info on the wonderful and storied history of the Yorktown CV's for all 3 parts to the end, most likely you're not just some idiot who's going to jump in and rage with no idea what to do. I look forward to enjoying that game with other intellectuals like all of you, and I just have to say thanks again for making these videos iChaseGaming; it's only a shame that your channel isn't more well known yet, because I know there are plenty of smart people out the who would love to watch this kind of stuff, let alone the game itself which is going to bring the history to life (or maybe just let us all have some fun with really big toys, lol).

Wtf, the Enterprise was scrapped? The hell with it, after surviving such battles, the one to destroy it were the ones it protected.... what a sad ending. I love these documentaries, though. Can't wait to play World of Warships

Such a shame that the Enterprise was not preserved as an museumship. Lesser ships, although still great warriors, like the Intrepid are still open for public. It's a blessing that the name remained as a tribute on the first nuclear carrier and in series like Star Trek.

crawford4140 Your super welcome :) Stay tuned as I will be putting up more and more videos about as many ship classes as I can in the upcoming days and weeks.

iChaseGaming you should put the Lexington class carrier on ur list if u ever seen the USS Yorktown and USS Lexington's ship insignias they look pretty badass expecially the yorktown's insignia with the screaming eagle and cannon

iChaseGaming the battle of midway proves that carriers are FAR more better than battleships tho i will grind up to an iowa class bb just to slug it out with the yamato

crawford4140 We've all learned the lessons of WWII and of the supremacy of the aircraft carrier, but come on, nothing beats a battleship on the coolness factor. ;)

Japanese battleships had an unusual round for their big guns called a Beehive round. These rounds were like shotgun rounds, there were many smaller pieces in it and were used for antiaircraft. See if you can find any info on them...it's at least interesting!!

Mega grape shot! I'm not sure they were particularly effect because of the slow elevation and traverse rate of a battleships turrets. But I'll bet they were scary as hell for the pilots getting shot at. I think the proximity fuzes on the 5" dual purpose and QF 3" AA guns on our ships were a far more lethal combination.

I was sad that my favorite ww2 carrier was scrapped both her sister carriers in the Essex class (hornet and Yorktown were named after the enterprise sisters lost in the war) were perserved

They tried to preserver her but it fail but like all great ships.She would live on in two ways her 1.legend and story and 2. renaming only 2 other ships after this one will be named Enterprise cv65 and cv 80 but 80 is still under construction. Only three 3 of the ships named enterprise are cv

To improve enterprise for modern combat you could have made it longer wider with better technology and fix old parts better new guns and better planes
@thomasholl91767 жыл бұрын
It sucks that icon like enterprise were lost but at lest in America there are many ship that were, here in the U.K. We have HMS Victory (a sail ship) and HMS Bristol (a WW2 cruiser). No battleships or carriers and It sucks as we had many famous ship like HMS Warspite, HMS King George V and HMS Queen Elizabeth (not the new carrier, the WW1 battleship)
@Metal_Auditor5 жыл бұрын
I agree. We really should have preserved Enterprise, and y'all really should have preserved Warspite. Two great ships I wish were around for us to see.
@steweygrrr8 жыл бұрын
Great video. Sucks they scrapped the Big E though, I mean they kept many older and less decorated ships as museum ships so why not her? Been. Also I should point out that a: there was no such thing as kamikaze, at least to the Japanese anyways as they called them Shipped which uses the same kanji but a different reading same as Iwo Jima is really Iwo To. Point b is that they were not all willing by a long shot as the vast majority were conscripted university students, given barely enough training to fly and then sent off to die. Perversely though, they actually saved lives by doing this because it was estimated that to inflict the same damage as 40-50 of those attacks, at that point in the war they would need 300 regular planes of which 270 were expected to die to air cover and AA fire. Not that I condone it though, the fact that the military even forced that on it's people shows how much of a cancer it was on Japan and I'm glad it was excised.
@Jacen4369875 жыл бұрын
so did the enterprise not have f4u corsairs?
@Metal_Auditor5 жыл бұрын
Maybe a few at some point, but those proved to be difficult to land on carriers, so they were mainly land-based.

I can't believe that the uss enterprises was sprac and not big enough to hold jet it was massive then today aircraft carrier for jet and really not enough money for a mucasmi it was the most famous aircraft carrier in the world to date

@Metal_Auditor5 жыл бұрын
I forget which one, but one of our Battleships was hit by a Kamikaze, and the pilot's body was thrown intact from the plane. The ship's captain felt that the pilot had fought honorably and gave him a proper burial at sea.

The fun they sold it ,it saved America you could of removed some parts extended it put modern technology and guns on it and more armor better engine it would of been the worlds greatest ship

+Himmat Pahal it was obsolete by 1946 since the jet fighters that eventually completely replaced propelled fighters in less than 5 years, could not land of take off from the BigE's deck, however they could have kept it as a symbol, it is sad how some ships that did nothing in the entire war are still around as museums but not the BigE. :/
