Aizen is such a boss. I love that Kubo kept him relevant and didn’t let the new big bad completely overshadow Aizen. Aizen is a whole other problem on his own. When Yhwach says the Gotei 13 died with them 1000 years ago he means the hardcore, savage, get the job done by any means or sacrifice attitude employed by the first generation is the true version of soul society's protectors. It's because most shounen characters only fight because "it's the right thing to do" not because they really want to save that person specifically. And that's fine, being a good person and all. But when you have an mc like Ichigo who genuinely knows the people he is protecting and considers them friends it makes for a much more powerful effect. Seeing an mc save a random person he never met is one thing but seeing Ichigo rush to the fight because he needs to save his friends and the people we the audience know and love is just another level.

To compare CSM and Bleach is completely stupid considering CSM is at it's starting point while Bleach is in it's final arc. As OffDutyOfficial said, CSM has TONS going for it. Kubo foreshadowed Ichigo being a Quincy in the very first episode of Bleach, theres a scene where Ichigo is laying on his bed and his bed sheets have a giant Quincy cross on them, also remember when Rukia was trying to give Ichigo her powers at the start of Bleach but Ichigo "took" all of them...well Quincies can absorb Reishi....Aizen knew Ichigo was half Quincy that's why he told Ichigo before Isshin interrupted him"You're half human and half-", theres much much more little foreshadow moments through tout Bleach but some havent been revealed yet so I wont say them

Over time, as they continue to pour their energy into the sword and train with it, they forge the sword's personality. 5:20 he didn't meant that the original 13 captains died LITERALLY with the Quincies a 1000 years ago, obviously yamamoto was still alive until now. He just gave a whole speach about how during the war the 13 captains were a bunch of savage killers BUT when they won the war they became soft, peace loving and they had more things to protect now aka the savage nature of the captains "died" with the Quincies in Juha Bach (Yhwach) eyes. Just like he said about yama that a 1000 years ago in yama's eyes everyone was just like ash to him but now he refuses to let a human to heal his arm. So he meant that their savage killing nature and strength died that day, just like a soldier who already gave up on the war before it even began in a sense he already died(but is still alive). This might be long, but it will give you more context/clarification without spoilers. So to give some clarifications, what we saw at the beginning was the original/first 13 captains, as mentioned they were ALL blood thirsty killers posed as good guys (picture current Zaraki Kenpachi but dialed somewhere between 11-20 out of 10 when it comes battle junkies/killers) . But over the years the head captain took a more peaceful approach and 13 captains and role of soul society became more about honor, justice, duty, etc (also the original 4 familes including yoruichi ancestor is part of the original 13 captains, along with ichigo dad's bloodline, and byakuya ~ last two are speculated). Anyways when he says the original 13 captains died with the Quincy 1000 years ago, he means their strength and ability to do anything (implies they arnt rutheless/blood thirsty enough/strong to do anything about it). He currently see the 13 as bunch of weaklings/cosplayers, and only a few ppl a threat aka the special weapons. Back to original 13, kubo dropped a color picture of them last week i'll attach a twitter link in the replies but if it doesnt work you can ask someone in discord to link it, it made the rounds for all the manga ppl. Also there's a potential for a sequel arc, but you won't see it in anime form anytime soon. Kubo dropped like a 50 page one-shot last year pretty much setting up a premise of a sequel story lines x-years past this current arc (leaving the number out to not be spoilery). Essentially it will involve Hell (like the movie). The reason why Hell is significant that when captains "die" they cant be put back into the cycle of soul society then go to earth and vice versa. They have to much spiritual pressure they will break the balance that they protect. So captains get sent to Hell when they die, and since the potential (un-written arc) involves Hell, ppl are speculating we will see the original captains at the minimum. if kubo decides to expand on the one-shot, which he might.

IT WAS ALWAYS IN FRONT OF OUR EYES !! funny thing is that ichigo's quincy side was showed from episode 1 and then multiple other times in the serie, we know quincy can absorb spiritual power and ichigo only start to see gost clearly after paying regular visit to the dead girl from ep 1 + stil in ep 1 when rukia give him half of her power to save his sister he somehow drain it all leaving her powerless. The "born in the dark" part is Yhwach taunting Ichigo that he doesn't anything; Not even about his mother. Told you. Ichigos mom was a Quincy. Father was a soul reaper. Ichigos zanpaktou is a hollow. Hence why he never had spiritual pressure. Because Ichigo had too many different molds to choose from. Also the white hollow is Ichigos bankai/zanpaktou. The other guy is the Quincy memory/blood of ywbach. Hence why he said”bring you in and retrain you slowly” and showing up the way he did. Also why ywach refers to all the quincies as his kids. They all get their powers from him.

Ywach is saying that after their fight a thousand years ago, the real Thirteen court guard squads ceased to be. There was no longer a grave threat so the squads slowly shifted away from their violent blood thirsty ways, which in turn produced weaker and weaker soul reapers.

When Yhwach said that the original Gotei 13 died a 1000 years ago, he meant it metaphorically. The original Gotei 13 was a group of wild beasts, think Yamamoto alongside 12 other Kenpachi's. After Yhwach's loss, Soul Society became a lot more peaceful, and over time they basically tamed themselves into the current Gotei 13.

As for his zanpakuto getting cut, he's already been through one tough fight in Hueco Mundo and also spent quite some time trying to force himself out of the jail so he's rather weak and so was his zanpakuto. Also that is the second in command of the Quincy, of course he has to be strong. We're also still watching bleach with its formula of introducing a new enemy, having the new enemy crush Ichigo, he powers up and crushes them, now we just need to see him power up.

Ywatch was disapointed with the current Gotei 13 captains. That is the reason why he said Gotei 13 died with quincies thousand years ago cause they are not as strong as before. Loved this episode. Great reaction guys!!

Unohana is one of the 1st Gotei 13 Squad Captains and she's the 1st Kenpachi, named as the strongest captain. "Kenpachi" is not a name, it is a title given to the strongest shinigami captain except for the head captain. The past Kenpachi is Unohana and the present Kenpachi is Zaraki Kenpachi.

The episode was amazing. To give backstory on the OG Gotei 13 they were only shown in silhouette form in the manga and new art work came out last week showing the captains because this flashback was added into the anime. To go further yes they were shown because they were that violent they were known as outlaws when Yamamoto formed the Gotei 13 and Ywhach was basically saying back then you guys were vicious and violent and didn’t care about anything and now your not and that’s why your dead.

The flashbacks to the original Gotei 13 are new, (we only got one panel of their silhouettes in the manga) so it’s been cool to see anime onlys recognizing Unohana in the past.

No other reactors have caught this, but look at the Sternritter Bazz-B (guy with the pinkish/purplish mohawk). Him and two other Sternritters attacked Yammamoto together in Episode 6. Notice how despite that Yammamoto retaliating, he's still alive?
