The small sea life beneath Trefor pier including Corkwing wrasse fanning their eggs just like spineless Si off Springwatch. The wooden pier has partially collapsed so their are no fishermen but the sea life is still abundant.

Great pictures. You certainly have an eye for the marine life. I've dived there a few times, but seen very little. I think I need a better light ! I think some brave? anglers may still risk the pier as I salvaged quite a lot of "fresh" tackle there last summer.

+Mark Sargent - I've had similar experiences, sometimes its a nice dive sometimes their appears to be very little about. Porthysgaden down the coast suffers from the same problem.

Spent a lot of time here as kids visiting family. Found a swordfish on the beach once.

Wow, that is quite special. I have noticed a few reports of Swordfish off the UK coast this year.

Excuse my ignorance but is it legal to catch lobster whilst diving in the UK? If so have you ever taken any for the pot? Just wondering as its something I've seen quite a few Americans do.

EmpiricalPenguin yes, I think their is a limit of two lobster per diver per day & they must be over a certain size & without a notch on their tail (breeding females). I am not sure to be honest as I don't like seafood.

Interesting, thanks for your reply! I'm hoping to complete an open water course over summer and this is somewhere I'd definitely like to visit!

Hi ID, another question for you! How would you recommend this site for two newly qualified OW divers? We both qualified last week and are eager for our first dive! We're based in Manchester but locations are few and far between here!

EmpiricalPenguin This is an excellent site for a shore dive in good weather and at high tide as the legs of the pier give good points of reference and their is lots to see (but all small). I cannot say whether it is suitable for you & your buddy, I suggest you speak to those responsible for your training. Regards

The goby looks like a female rock goby, Gobius paganellus, the white band on the first dorsal fin would be orange or red in a male. The scorpion fish a long spined, Taurulus bubalis. The easy giveaway is the barbel at the rear corner of the mouth. HTH
