There's widespread misunderstanding as to why the ICJ didn't order a ceasefire. Some genocide supporters even thought the court was on their side. Nothing could be further from the truth. We have to recall that the Genocide Convention is to prevent or stop a genocide. Its purview does not extend to preventing or stopping a war. But a ceasefire could cover more than stopping a genocide. To order a ceasefire would give Israel the opportunity to argue that it had the right to self defense, which is irrelevant to the case, as Israel was not conducting any self defense in Gaza. So, the court in its wisdom ordered what in the detail was a ceasefire without using the word "ceasefire".

You may know of a Canadian Palestinian, Mansour Shouman who was volunteering in the capacity of a non affiliated reporter and providing aid (food, water, small donations) to Palestinians in Gaza. To my knowledge his service was voluntary and self motivated for humanitarian reasons. Mansour was last seen in Khan Younis January 21, 2024. Three witnesses reported seeing Mansour being taken into custody by IDF soldiers. Dr. Mai Hussein (Mansour’s mother) who lives in Canada, contacted PM Justin Trudeau several times to request he assist to investigate the disappearance of her son. Today, Dr. Hussein finally spoke with Melanie Joly (Minister of Foreign Affairs Canada) who reassured the mother they were speaking with people, but did not explain any further. In this case, how should the mother proceed and what alternatives might she have? She is extremely concerned about the safety of her son. For more information #mansourshouman7

It doesn't matter who they served with, or where they are from...soldiers are responsible for their own actions. If there is evidence of their identity and their violations, they can be charged using international.law and in some cases domestic laws too
