You make things look easy. I was watching one of your antenna videos and you made it easy to understand.

Nice job Buzz, that will extend the life and dependability a lot.

Thanks Rusty, hope so, I know it expanded the freqs range.

thanks for sharing this valuable experience, I was wonder if you have any video which explains component and subsystems of a typical VHF radio transmitter
@buzzsah2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. I try to reply to all, but sometimes a few slip by. No vids other than what is posted. Not many on 2300/ VHF. Maybe a good vid to work on. I have been really busy with emergency comms with the USCG, so I have no time to breathe.

I've been buying Ham gear from HRO since about '93 ! Good folks to deal with. They can always take the time to answer my questions!
@buzzsah4 жыл бұрын
True, I buy from them 99% of the time, I tried MFJ but at this point, I'm done with them. However, there's always a BUT.

Thanks Ron, it the damn camera would focus on the part instead of the case it would have been clearer.

Did the modifying actually work? After I did this the radio had issues? Squelch problems. Im using chirp to program, maybe its messing with it? Your thoughts.
@buzzsah6 жыл бұрын
So far all is well, this is my second one, I have 1 in the van as well
@briansnowdrifter46956 жыл бұрын
I wonder if the radio was just defective from the start? Oh what is the software your using? Can you download it? I used Chirp, not sure if thats an issue.
@buzzsah6 жыл бұрын
does it work if the mod is out band back to factory? How are you programming it? are you using a computer program? if so you may need to do a backup first. Not sure just thinking out loud
@briansnowdrifter46956 жыл бұрын
I wish I would have left one side in like you did, then I could have put the piece back in. Ya chirp is on my computer, I cleared the radio a few times, reprogramming it, but still issues.

Sometimes we all rush and don't think "what if" you didn't short out the connection to the next nearest when un-soldering? Good luck I may be off YT for a few days, Hope you figuer it out.

I have the same icom but the channels are only 4 channels can i open all the channels by this way
@buzzsah6 жыл бұрын
It will do all that the Icom 78 does, I needed the 78 but not going to spend 1000 bucks bo I bought this one and modified it. Now I can run it on the USCG Coms, I run an AH-4 tuner with 120 of 10.5 ga. black elect=fence wire that I bought from Tractor Supply and have no problems. Good luck and be careful.

"Tip"; Auto-focus has been utterly worthless since it was first sold to the unsuspecting "Consumer", in the 90's. I NEVER USE IT for any critical work. (I.E. I want any image that the viewers can see!)
@buzzsah4 жыл бұрын
We keep looking, it's getting better but still not there. I notice after the fact on this out, plus its the canon t4i which is extremely slow.
@ajnunya66493 жыл бұрын
20 minutes of no focus and no explanation as to why you are butchering a radio. Definitely worth a down vote.
