@@KG5JMV I wrote to Icom America and asked for details on the ribbon as a local Icom place asked me to see if I could send the part to them, I am shy of that part as if it gets lost I will have a radio I can't repair. Very disappointing on that.

From what I could gather from the video and few Google searches, cable W1 is a Hitachi AWM E414. I e-mailed the gentleman that you identified in the description and asked if he had the cable available and, if so, how much, shipping, etc., but he has not responded thus far. I have run several Google searches to see where else I might be able to source the part, but the cable appears to be "plenty scarce." I am wondering is any kind of substitute could be rigged up.

The gentleman did not respond to my e-mail. However, after a bit of research, I located a substitute for the original W1 on Mouser. The original Part W1 cable is a 13-conductor 0.5mm pitch same-side conductor ribbon cable that is about 48mm in length. I found the following cable on Mouser that meets those specs except for the length: www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/538-15020-0815. This cable is 76mm long, so it's longer than the original W1. Mouser also sells another variant of the same ribbon cable, but the variant is only 30mm long, and so it would be an unsuitable replacement for the original 48mm cable. In any event, I purchased and installed the 76mm cable in my 706MKIIG's control head, reassembled it, and now my AF gain, RF gain, channel switch, IF shift on the VR board now work great. The replacement also cured a persistent problem that I had with the channel switch skipping channels as I rotated the channel switch. Here is the link to the "project" that I set up on Mouser's website with the substitute cable: www.mouser.com/ProjectManager/ProjectDetail.aspx?AccessID=4eea643699

@@jwsnyderaal This excellent information. Thanks for posting this. I found out Scott's Wix website contact form wasn't working. This is most likely why he never got back to several people. I updated his contact information in the description. However it looks like you have a more direct solution. Thanks
