You don't need an external GPS to use the near repeater function. You can manually enter your longitude and latitude under the gps functions, then you can use the near repeater list.

I bought a screen protector for an android phone for my 7100. I will admit I did keep the manufactures plastic on the screen. The phone protector I cut to fit w a razor, working out real nice.

Yes, it will. Whether or not it scans DStar is determined by whether or not you have DStar repeaters in your memories. It scans, and it scans scary fast! I recently got the button mic and have not been told of any voice differences on FM. From the Yahoo Group, it does appear to be a hotter mic and may be better for HF.

You got me interested in the actual meaning of the DR Button. It activated the Dstar mode in the radio, as I'm sure you know. But what it stands for took a bit of Googling. From what I gather, it seems it is just a holdover from several Dstar radios and means D-Star Repeater. This is what I deduced from looking around. Hopefully I am right LOL. Thanks for the great overview on this new Rig. Price-point still has me standing off though.

Would have been nice if you had read the manual before demonstrating.

I owned a 7000, and it got hot just being turned on. The 7100 does not get hot on receive like the 7000 did. It does have a temp gauge. I ride the power low for VHF/UHF so I haven't pushed the radio, but I haven't heard anyone complain about heat.

My only complaint w my 7100 is the placement of the speaker. It is on the bottom of the control unit. Would work really well if it was mounted above my ears. The radio is great, I love mine. Nice review!

This is good info. I'm sight impaired and I was Wondering if the radio does any more speech functionality than just frequency and meter. Does it aid with D*at all.

I am newly licensed. What antenna (s) are used by an all mode radio such as the 7100. I am thinking of this for the main radio. Small home on small lot on Long Island. Bob

This is a very complex question :) For folks with not a lot of room, you will often see 43' verticals with a nice field of radials. The Fan Dipole is also a favorite if you have the space corner to corner. I also know some people will run wire along the boundary fences in their back yard if they have them. Congrats on the license, and good luck!

43-foot verticals, for those without a lot of room?

You can have (1) HF Antenna and a VHF/UHF Antenna or use a Duplexer to separate VHF from UHF. I would recommend a Diamond X51 or X510 for a high power 2m/70cm (UHF) base antenna. For HF I would go with something like either a G5RV Jr. if you have two trees about 55' apart, or one end attached to the house and the other to a tree or a small mast that you can put up to about 20'. The other option would be a vertical of some type for multi-band HF - 160m - 6m or something that covers either 80m or 40m thru 10m or 6m for this radio.

How is the receiver sensitivity on VHF? I have a Kenwood TS2000 and find it very poor. I have to use the pre amp to hear almost anything on VHF.

1 IMPORTANT question, does the radio ever get hot? overheat? any of that, reports on the 7,000 are such and is what has scared me way from that radio. any issues with this 1? ordering it today as sale ends today. does it have a TEMP guage? thanks.

Very kool. Nice job. I have an ID51 and TS2000. I am going to be trading in my TS2000 for this radio, what do you think?

any problems with low average power on SSB
@KF7IJZ8 жыл бұрын
+uncleart112 I have no idea because this radio has never been on HF. This radio was from the first batch sold in the US, so it wouldn't surprise me that it has low power. I hear that Icom released a firmware update recently that may address the problem to some extent.

If you want a screen protector, you should really make a real one instead of leaving the silly manufacturing plastic on there. :-)
@TheOTGGirl11 жыл бұрын
Nothing increases resale value of a radio to many HAMS then being able to say "Still has Manufacturer's Plastic on Screen". Shows the radio has usually been gently cared for. Nothing "silly" about it.In fact the only thing silly I have seen on this Video Posting is YOUR comment.
