You mention things that will be changed if remotely using the setup....away from home. How about a video on that? I have it set up using my home internet, that's the easy part. Looking for guidance on setting it up to use from campgrounds etc. .....Please?

You should be using a personal VPN into your home system for security. Open ports on a router to the Internet is a security concern.

VPN''s are over rated. Last month I called the big brand ones and they said they no longer support port forwarding. So much for that.
@ronwolenski-n8wcr4 жыл бұрын
@@N2LRB I was talking about a personal VPN between your remote computer and the one running the ham software. This can be setup on a Raspberry PI (or even a Zero like I have) that way you control it.

Interesting video about your remote control operation of the 9700. I'm planning on remote controlling my Icom IC-7610 from another state in the future. Perhaps you could also do a video about remote controlling your 7300 with the BA-1 software. I already purchased the BA-1 remote control software, but haven't tried using it yet. I didn't know that the BA-1 software had the option for a local computer next to the remote controlled radio. I plan to have a local computer next to the 7610 for the digital modes. Currently, I am testing remote control by using Real VNC Connect from another room of the house. I've also used Real VNC Connect away from my house, outside of my WiFi range. I currently don' have a way to get the audio remote controlled in both directions. I thought about using Skype to move the audio, but it looks like the audio can pass between the remote controlled radio and your computer using the BA-1 software. I've already thought about how to deal with thunderstorms. Normally, I manually disconnect my antenna from my 7610 HF radio when I am not using it, and especially when a thunderstorm is approaching, to decrease the chance of lightning damage to the HF radio. When you are remote controlling the radio, you don't have the option to manually disconnect the antenna from the radio, since you could be more than 1,000 miles away from home. I purchased the Paradan antenna disconnect and grounding interface box. With the Paradan interface box, when the power supply is turned off, the antenna is disconnected from the HF radio and grounded. When the power supply is turned on, the antenna is ungrounded and reconnected to the HF radio. In addition to that lightning protection inside my home, I want to add redundant lightning protection outside my home. I plan to purchase a Polyphaser, Alpha Delta, Times Microwave, or equivalent coax antenna surge protector, which will be located outside the house and provide additional lightning protection. I turn on and off my power supply with a remote control electrical outlet called "Smart Wi-Fi Plug" by Techkin. The power can be switched on and off with my iPhone from anywhere. The "Smart Wi-Fi Plug" also has a built-in scheduler in the iPhone app to schedule power on and off events, which is very useful to control other electrical devices. The remote electrical power switch controls up to 16 amps of 120 VAC power, and costs $20 for a package of two remote control electrical power switches, sold on Amazon, and shipped next day if you have Amazon Prime. I turn my Icom IC-7610 on and off with the Ham Radio Deluxe software that is running on the computer next to the IC-7610. Funny that you mentioned Nova Scotia. I've been thinking about visiting Nova Scotia sometime in the future. I'm sure that visit would have to be in the middle of the summer. Winters are probably pretty miserable there, just like the snow belt states. I heard that you have to be careful about the moose when driving in Nova Scotia, and to never honk at the moose! Please consider doing another video remote controlling your 7300, and do that away from your home. You might consider doing it from the beach where you did a go-kit video before. The HF radio would work a lot better if it's operated remotely than using a compromise antenna meant for temporary portable operation. It would also be interesting to see if your cellphone hotspot has enough bandwidth to operate remote control with the BA-1 software. Dave KY0L

Can I connect my ICOM IC-7300 and my ICOM ID-9700 to ICOM RS-BA1 Version 2 at the same time? I see all the Band Buttons are dark like they are active @ 0:24 in the video. Robert K3RRR states we cannot :-( Let us know how all the Band Buttons are dark. Thanks, Jay, N6WIP

I would like to know also. I will be getting a 9700 and already have the 7300 using RS-BA1 V2.

Thanks Eric! I thought I knew everything about the software for my 7300...well learned something new from you! I love the 7300 and the software (V2) I also have the RC-28 (bit overkill) but a good add-on. I hope all is well and keep up the great work! 73's AH2EJ from Guam!

16:30 About the scope missing: Do you actually have the version 2 of the RS-BA1 software? I think only that newer version supports the newer radios..
@HamRadioDX5 жыл бұрын
The scope works, but you need to enable the faster baud rate in the menus of 115200 bps.

I wonder if the waterfall/scope works when selecting Fiber (added bandwidth needed for the scope?)

Hi, Great info in the video. What I am hoping to do is display the scope etc on a larger screen (computer monitor) in my shack. I would still like to control the radio by it buttons and dials but want a larger display. Is that possible?

Cool need to try it on the 7300. But like Roger said I'd be worried about lightning being away from the radio even a lightning arrester isn't fool proof.

Thanks for the great video, Eric… I've been trying to decide whether to go with version 1 or version 2 of the software since I have both the ICOM 9700 and the ICOM 7300… I was leaning toward version 2 until I found out that you cannot be connected to both radios at the same time…73 de Robert K3RRR

Hi! i have a icom ic-9700 and the rs-ba1 version 2 software. A clean PC with the Remote software. No Firewalls everything is open for testing. From outside no connection. Inside the LAN no connection. Seems that the IC unit don't want to setup a connection. Settings in the icom are alright?? Tried many things but no connection. Any idea? have someone a backup file from a ic-9700 unit with tested settings for remote? thanks

I assume that when the 9700 is added to the software (rather than generic radio) that satellite functions will be usable?

How could HF be dead? FT8 doesn't cause your signal to bounce off the troposphere. HF will always have it's place

Win4icomsuite.com SW will enable what you want. There is a new release of Win4IcomSuite (version 1.382). This release improves network performance over WiFi with the Icom Remote Utility as well as adds some further optimizations. Win4IcomSuite supports the IC-7100, IC-7300, IC-7600, IC-7610, IC-7700, IC-7800, IC-7850/51, IC-9700 and IC-705. A unique feature of this software is the ability to share the radio's USB or Network connection with up to 6 programs simultaneously such as WSJT-X, N1MM+ FlDigi and various hardware products. This allows you to use your favorite application or best in class software with the superior control of Win4Icom. Win4Icom also includes a HRD Logbook server, built in shortwave database and many other features such as satellite mode asnd DStar. It supports the built in spectrum scopes of the radio as well as the IQ out of the IC-7610 and the SDRPlay RSP devices. You can see it in action here: icom.va2fsq.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/7100-example.jpg Please download and give it a try. There is a fully functional 30 day trial. Check out the videos too. 73 Tom icom.va2fsq.com

How to connect remotely from an external internet connection? I think you tried a remotely connection " inside " your own network... Also the scope, no way to see it also increasing the baud rate (sw just purchased) thanks IZ2IVF
@izzy3514 жыл бұрын
You open ports 50001 to 50003 in your router and point the RS-BA1 SW to the router's WAN IP. There is a separate setting for the CI-V USB baud rate in the C-IV menu, but you have to set the C-IV USB Port to "Unlink from [REMOTE] to get to it. Also, you have to select LAN (or USB if using a PC instead of the radio directly) in the RS-BA1 SW when setting it up to get the remote scope working.

A beautiful scope indeed...when I was a HAM...before I wandered away and back again...(novice back then) there weren't any scopes...at least not built into the radio...we used our ears and called CQ...its so different now...🤔 the 991A scope may be primitive, but its suffices, especially if you want to go mobile like me...😁 can't imagine lugging two of these around, plus batteries...and the slimjims and buddipole...oy... great video though, ICOM should employ you...73s...AC3FB...

Biggest reason that I hate the radio is because of the touch screen. I will never on any touch screen radio no matter what the cost and you could not give the radio to me if I am required to actually keep and use it.
