Is there anything you can't repair? Excellent work as always. Thanks for sharing

Hi! In reality there're lots of things I can't repair, most modern devices have no schematics available and even parts can't be sourced easily, not to mention the difficulty in probing around the BGA and similar SMD parts. I prefer the old devices when it comes to using and repairing :)

Thank you for the nice comment! It's good to use the old test gears to let them not feel useless :)

Love the Video and always something new and different. I'll stick for now to Retro Computers repairs for the most part, lol. -Mark.

Hi Mark! Thank you for the nice comment. The next video on my channel will be about retro-computers. However I publish what I do on what is being sent for repair. Not entirely my choice.

The battery is probably a 7.2V NiCad / NiMH, so it being 7.5V is already fully charged. Often these small little transceivers had their full output only with external power (the older, slightly bigger ones could often be powered directly with 13.8V and then had ~5 watts, with the battery they delivered "only" 2-3 Watts (which does not make a big difference usually anyways) and kept the power consumption reasonably for the battery packs of that era. I still have an (older? at least it's bigger, from a quick search it might be an IC-W32E) dualband 2m/70cm Icom handheld trx lying around somewhere, I'll really need to find it and check out if it works. I have been out of the ham radio hobby for 25 years now. Due to your TS180S I have hauled that one down from the attic but I suspect it needs an overhaul, too. Thanks for these videos, these partly remind me of the old times and part prod me to start playing around with that old stuff I still have again somewhen in the future.

Thanks for the comment, you're right, likely the battery can't reach 8V even when new. I'm glad you are considering hamradio activity again! I am in these days installing a new 50/70 MHz yagi on the roof. I'd like amateur radio activity to be more on the leading edge of radio and electronics as it used to be from the beginning, rather than at the trailing edge as it was when I've more or less abandoned it. I think a new "ham" category must be created maybe, who knows...

The original battery for the IC-E90 is Li-Ion. This 2 cell battery should have 8.4V or a little less when fully charged.

una avería muy común en ese equipo, deja de trasmitir en la banda de 2 metros solo, yo tb tuve esta avería y fue reparado por el SAT de ICOM gratuitamente a los 2 años y medio de comprarlo

Thanks for your comment! I don't know if my friend asked Icom for repair, but that RTX was way older than 2 years anyway :)
