Great video! We've added you to our Qcon Pro playlist. A couple of comments... You can adjust the fader calibration if your faders are noisy. Also, we would encourage you to play around with the plugin and EQ manipulation on the controller for exactly the same reason you suggest using the controller in the first place. It makes it really easy to sweep the frequency using the encoder knob. This works especially well in Logic, but in other DAWs as well. The same is true of plugin manipulation. Using your ears instead of your eyes to mix is much more ideal.

Icon Pro Audio, thanks for commenting on this vid. I love your products and to this day still use the set up I discuss in this video. With further updates to DAW software, its gotten harder to map these units out, but they are still such a workhorse for me and I get a lot out of them. There have been some comments on this thread about the noise of the faders, which I know have been solved in future generations of these units, particularly the Pro X and XS models. Wishing you all a happy new year and hope you are staying safe out there!

How do you program the g2 pro to control Samplitude pro x6's plugins? I just get a bunch of "??" in the parameters when I go into a plugin in this DAW. Also, it does funky things to the plugins like mess up all the defaults and it doesn't retain what I changed them too. Sometimes, it can control the plugin and then other times it doesn't register at all. Very bizarre. I tried using the Hardware learn function in Samplitude, but it kept changing the order of the parameters on me so it basically didn't work.

Thank you for this. I have a Qcon Pro (Grey version). And almost stopped using it. Now I’m thinking about getting an extender.

Glad it was helpful to you! They are definitely worth it if you take the time to learn their functions. When you are working with clients or just writing / producing yourself, its all about speed, ease of use and work flow--which allows you to focus on what matters: the creative process.

I have a qcon pro G2. I use about all of the features. It miss save and undo on the original logic pro mapping, so I just manually remapped them onto the marker and nudge button that I don't originaly use. And it's just prefect that way, I mean for my personal use.

I've heard good things about the the G2 particularly with the faders being more quiet. thanks for sharing that!

I just bumped into this video and I want to thank you for making it. I was thinking on getting one of these controllers and I am definitely convinced now. Btw, do you know if that gen 1 still works on PT Studio 2022 and Logic?
@engineersandfriends4799 Жыл бұрын
It definitely still works with logic as I still use mine with that DAW (Nov, 2022). Thanks for the comment and good luck!

I have the original Icon QCon Pro with two extenders as you have there in the video, which I use with Logic Pro X. I’ve considered upgrading to the newer version, but why fix what ain’t broke? 🤘

The icon qcon look more what is used in an actual studio. I like the look of it.
@engineersandfriends4799 Жыл бұрын
It definitely helps "legitimize" the look of your studio...as weird as that it is...people trust the look of gear, so if you need that to help attract clients, go for it!

I own these units, I find that I don’t use the faders or plug-in controls very often, I am mainly using the, as transport and zoom. I also find the fades to be a little noisy, most annoying when mixing a low volumes.... 😕
@engineersandfriends47993 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more. The faders can be very noisy...especially if you are trying to track in the same room as where you are using these units. I know they have addressed these in future generations of the ICON QCON Pro (like the pro X). Thanks for commenting!

Qcon G2, does someone here use FLstudio, when i use the overlay on the top it says modes, and it has 3 options with FL. Horizontal metering mode, Vertical metering mode and Disabled. I am trying to find someone that has the explanation. And yes you are spot on, mixing with mouse is very different. I would say with faders and ears mixing is better and more fun.

I'd be curious to hear this answer as well. I don't use FL Studio, so can't help with this one.

@@engineersandfriends4799 This dates back to the original Mackie/MCU controllers - these had a spot within the scribble strips for metering and they could be configured to be off, horizontal or vertical. (The QCON uses a Mackie compatible script so has this interface - though obviously it is redundant when using the QCON Pro (which, at the end of the day, is a "Mackie compatible" piece of hardware :-)

Thank you for a great tutorials! I am using Qcon Pro g2 and I can not get it to control the parameters of my VST instruments open in Kontakt, such as modulation, vibrato (breath) ... etc... which is basically what I aim to use it for... can you please help us your fellow composers with this issue? I am using it with CUBASE 10. many thanks in advance :)

Can you give me a little more detail on what is happening when you try to open your VSTs using the Qcon? I'm not an expert on them, but I'd be happy to try and figure this out with you. Does the G2 work with other plugins in Cubase?

It should work on almost any OS, if anyone knows differently, please comment, but as long as you have usb and you arent running DOS (joke) you should be fine...as long as its set up correctly in your DAW
