Great video! I'm waiting on a delivery of a first gen version with 2 extenders and now looking forward to getting back to some good old fashioned hands-on mixing. Although, I've had a few doubts regarding fader noise, especially when mixing at low volume, but you've explained just how simple it is to calibrate them, and in a much clearer way than any info I've found from the manufacturer, or anyone else for that matter. Cheers man, best wishes and good luck with your future music projects!

Josh Jones Hi Josh! We’re looking for a new control surface. The Icon gear seems to have nice build quality, but the drivers and DAW integration aren’t as advertised, and their tech support is very poor. They told us to download third party Windows drivers someone else wrote to install on a Mac. smh. We met with them at NAMM 2020 and told them about our challenges with the unit. One of their senior reps gave me his business card and told me to contact him directly so they could correct the situation and make it right. I’ve sent him at least three emails and have never received a reply. Based in our experience with the company to date, I am not comfortable recommending them at this time. -chaz

👌 Great review I am considering getting the Ikon platform m+ as my first midi control surface as space is limited in my room. Do you recommend the M+, are there major differences between the M+ and the Qcon Pro G2. Off topic your home studio looks awesome, that workstation looks custom build all your equipment looks well setup and easy to get to and the G2's look like it is mounted to the desk. Keep up the good work, looking forward to more reviews from you 👍.
@TrakMonkProductions4 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I have never tried the platform m. I love the options on the G2. The reliability is my problem. I have had it less than a year and it has been in the shop twice, totaling 4 months away from my studio. I own other icon products and the G2 has given me more trouble than the others. I don't know if icon is getting sloppy with production and taken shortcuts or if I just got a bad one. No one is perfect obviously. But be aware if you do have a problem icon is not willing to switch out the unit for another one that easily.
@mickikaufman53604 жыл бұрын
I use the platform m+ for mixing in Logic Pro X and it’s been very smooth overall. No obvious production problems like Trak Monk had w his G2. It doesn’t have plugin control or the like, and I am not sure what my next control surface will be, but the platform m+ is handling the basic job well. I had to put some acetate gels over the led to dim it to a more chill vibe but other than that, my Platform M+ has been solid and reliable in Logic Pro X.

Did you consider the StudioLive III mixers as a control surface? I like that they have more of a 1:1 relationship with the fat channel plugin. But then not as compatible with other DAWs. But feels like a real digital mixer (since it is one!), which is nice. To be honest, I am looking for even more than just mixing... I would like to be able to do basic editing stuff from hardware, so it’s more like the old hardware recorders. Such as duplicating clips, nudging, clip gain, etc. for that, I think the only options are custom mapping to a pad controller, the Avid app (but not sure if it can work at the same time as other control surfaces) with the dock, or something like the Slate Raven or the competitor commander screen overlay (but then it’s a touchscreen thing, not really looking for that either). If you’ve had any thoughts on that sort of control, let me know! Sometimes I think of getting an old Roland vs-2480 or Korg d32, but they are hard to transfer data to a PC. Hard to find at decent prices now too. And editing wasn’t exactly easy on the VS series.
@TrakMonkProductions5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Actually I would love to have one but realistically I don't need the inputs. In my home studio I primarily do mixing. 90% of my recording is done at my other studio which has the Mackie 32 rack mount mixer. But if I ever get another studio or want something other than the Mackie, then it would definitely be the series III.
@boothbuster5 жыл бұрын
@@TrakMonkProductions Funny you should mention the Mackie 32 - I actually use the StudioLive III 32 rack as my interface! I originally got it to act as a remote for the mixer, but it was so space-efficient, ended up using it first, and now trying to fit the mixer (so the mixer is definitely overkill as a controller only - which makes me consider selling it and getting a setup like yours or even the FaderPort 16). Anyway, good stuff. It's never ending trying to get a perfect setup, is it!
