Destiny's art director mentioned that when you blow off a Fallen's head, resulting in a weird light effect, that design was inspired by the thought of their soul being ripped out of their body before dying. What if that light is the remnants of the actual Light from when the Traveler may have once kept an alliance with them. Just a thought.

I have a crazy theory about the darkness. I call it the Noah's Ark Theory. Both humanity and the darkness are good, but with every harvest, there are some bad apples. The bad apples were going to rise up and attack us and the darkness intervened, killing off the bad apples but causing collateral damage in the process. Bungie is known to put religious references in their games. For example: Halo: The flood, the covenant and the ark. The ark served as a safe zone to fend off the flood. Anyway, God commanded Noah to build an ark to save the world from the sinner-destroying flood that also caused tons of collateral damage and lasted for 40 days and 40 nights, while the Traveler, our "god" commanded us to build the city and the tower, a last safe zone against the flood of darkness. Please do a theory on this. Sorry if I offended anyone by using religion in this and if it's a little foggy, I'm sorry I have to go to class in a few minutes. Like so Wally sees!

I understand what you are trying to say but the darkness is the reason of the collapse which is bad. The traveler ran away from the darkness. I believe the enemies are just the puppet for the darkness and the fallen, hive, vex, and cobalt are just like the covenant but except they are not allies. Even the houses among the fallen hate each other. But I see what your trying to say. Good job!

Sir Wallen - Lore Seeker It says in the Grimoire that whoever kills a Kell of a house becomes the new leader of the house, like a pack of wolves. That is how the Queen is in command of the House of Wolves. The player kills the Kell of the House of Winter in the campaign. how cool would it be if we led a Fallen House against other Fallen Houses and other various enemies. I would love to hear your thoughts on this idea.

Watched another youtuber who was reading off a post from one of the game tester a few months after its announcement (post was deleted a few months before destiny released) explaining the traveler is the true darkness and the final mission you kill the traveler, by destroying its heart..... makes sense to me.... why the heck was there a heart floating around in Timbuktu in the final mission?!?!! easy... destiny had more going for it during development... huh? link: blogs-images.forbes.com/insertcoin/files/2014/09/destiny-traveler.jpg ^^ black garden concept art during games development... round? like inside the traveler! BELOW: Story from the game tester explaining when he was testing the game.... this is deleted almost EVERYWHERE it's posted, dont expect it to be up here for to long. he below I posted in a comment to a thread about an alternative story. Now seeing how most NDAs are invalid once the product has released I firmly believe I'm safe in sharing the Destiny story when I was invited to a User Research Case Study done by Bungie in early 2013. Note: Test Group = the people in my testing session. Group = Crow's Group. A run down of how the Destiny story was around early 2013. Crow ends up being introduced earlier on in the story, in the place of the Exo Stranger, which is interesting to note. This story revolved around discovering that there was something wrong with the Speaker, and the Traveler. As a Guardian, you were abducted by this yet to be named group led by Crow. In the second mission on Earth you got to a certain point, and he swooped down knocked you out, and brought you to this secret base on Mars. There you met with some Guardians that abandoned the Traveler, the Speaker, and the Light so to speak. It was led by Crow, a burly old human, the Exo Stranger (Who evidently in this variant of the story was male, but had relatively the same personality), and one or two Guardians who lost their Ghosts. It had this predictable plot where the Traveler was the cause of the collapse of the Golden Age because this group found out through their travels that the Darkness was a spawn of the Traveler rather than it's rival. Essentially when the Traveler was brought to Earth it unleashed the Darkness and took over the majority of the technology that Humanity used, turned it against them and nearly wiped it out. As that happened centuries ago the truth was twisted through the speakers that the Traveler protected Earth in it's darkest moment rather than destroying it. They send you to Venus to lure out a Gatekeeper, and steal it's core which supposedly held an AI that could help bring the truth to light about the Traveler, and the Speaker to the citizens of the City. Around this point I recall going to Mars to retrieve the remains of another powerful AI that the Cabal was repurposing for their own use. Then at the end of that mission the test group was sent about 10 hours further into the game where we assaulted a Hive base on the Moon, after the group discovered from an AI that the Hellmouth (IIRC it was a different name then) was a housing for a super weapon that could revive the Traveler from it's dormant state so it could wreck havoc on Humanity again. That's all I vividly remember from the story from that session. I wanted something different, but it felt like yet another halo game. The planet progression was different too, it was Earth > Venus > Mars > Moon. Also the deactivated Spider Walker near the start of the released game is a reference to the Spider Walker in the internal build I played where the Fallen dropped down a bunch of Shanks, Vandals, Driegs, and a.. spider walker. Luckily around mission 7 after returning from Venus to grab an old Starmap I could finally defeat the thing.

I just started watching these lore videos today... THEY ARE AMAZING! I always love to learn the lore of video games and alternate universes, and these videos sum it up in such a simple-to-understand way! I've been trying to collect as many Grimoire Cards as possible, but now I can just look to these. I'm looking forward to the next big Destiny releases so we can really start learning about what the Darkness is up to and where the Traveler came from.

The Traveler is an entity that promotes and accelerates evolution amongst a planets inhabitants (golden age) however it is sped up and unnatural so it eventually leads to downfall and destruction. It's said the Traveler had visited many other systems. Maybe the Vex, Hive, Fallen, and Cabal were groups that had been previously been visited by the Traveler advancing their civilizations but ultimately leading to their undoing. At that point, having nothing left, the Vex, Hive, Cabal, and Fallen decided to relentlessly pursue the Traveler in a fit of revenge or to prevent it from happening to any other planet. This could also explain why the Hive, Vex, Cabal, and Fallen fight amongst each other as well. Example, the Traveler visited the Fallen home-world and acted much like it did on Earth where the 'Darkness' of that time consisted only of the Vex, Hive, and/or Cabal.

The nature of the Vex and Hive specifically seem to state otherwise - their intentions are very clearly malicious in even an aspect of logic; the Hive are religious extremists who worship 'darkness' as a physical entity and the Vex are reality-bending, mind-bending robots that want to apparently destroy and consume all life. The Fallen, however, likely suffered the same thing from the Traveler - the Cabal, meanwhile, appear to be running from the darkness.

+Will Sitek I have not answered these questions. The Stranger is apart of the Exo group that most likely comes from the future, as the weapon recieved from here alludes to time travel. As for where she originates and what her goals likely are, I am not sure.

Before the original story of destiny was scrapped, the old concept art for the black garden had a round shape. I believe the travelers interior could have been originally the black garden. This would back up the theory that the speaker and the traveler are really evil

My theory is that the darkness has it's own traveller. It thrives off chaos and much like how guardians are agents of the light, the fallen, hive, vex and cabal are agents of the darkness. They fight each other to strengthen that chaotic nature of the darkness.

One thing I found very interesting was a grimiore entry on the darkness I read, I can't remember all specifics but it spoke of a guardians dream while resting in the shores of time. If I remember it described the guardian seeinf a flower bloom into what looked like a ghost the guardian reached to it and a thorn cut it's hand to where light was pouring from the wound. The ghost said somthing like "you are a dead thing, serving a dead power" or somthing like that The guardian replied with somthing like "you're a visage of the darkness the traveler is life" it describes how the guardian felt doubt in itself when seeing it's wound and how their ghost brought them back up from the waters and how the wound on it's hand had never healed since then. I found that entry very interesting and I can personally imagine the darkness being an entity similar but also different then the traveler where the traveler has chosen humans or exos as it's champions maybe the same can be said of the alien races described as the armies of the darkness since we have seen some relation from the hive and the vex tapping into a deeper power that is not their own. Heck maybe in future entries we will be introduced to humans who became champions of the darkness possible surviving harbringers of the collapse? Total hopeful thinking imagine the chaos if a choice was introduced??? dun dun dun lol You've earned a new sub by the way :)

I think it could be a combination of both Yin/Yang ideas and entropy, being that the ideal state of the universe is equally light and dark, both extremes in balance, but the Darkness has slowly become more and more powerful as the Light becomes weaker and weaker. It could be that the role of Guardians is to restore that balance by both beating back the Darkness and healing the Traveler.

The darkness is a form of it. Born from the traveler. The collapse happens after the traveler shows up. The fallen experienced the traveler as well, and they experienced a "collapse-like" event called the Whirlwind

I would love to see a moral choice for all Guardians as the story progresses this ambiguity of Traveller being Good/Evil, say about Destiny 3.0, and it becomes necessary to "Choose a side, even if it's wrong." Lots of people would play at being bad-boys and could be deeply personal for players … and all-around epic.

Here's a thought, what if the traveller is a machine built by the vex to further their domination and crusade to turn everything into a part of their species. One of the ghost fragments of the vex brings up that the vex are simulating everything even what we are doing as guardians in the game.

The question that i have always had and no one seems to know, but maybe you do is, who is the Stranger? She said that she was born from neither the light nor darkness, so where did she come from? Who created her, she is an exo so who built her? Vex? Awoken? The Traveler? It is obvious that she is a much higher life form than a normal guardian because she can teleport to a completely different location in the galaxy in an instant just like the Vex are able to do. Was she made with this ability? Given this ability through the traveler? Or learned it through studying her fellow Vex enemies? Was she once part of the Vex Culture and was integrated with their technology? I have not seen your other videos so i sorry if i am asking questions that have already been answered.

Sir Wallen - Lore Seeker If you checked out the alleged leaked story info for destiny that centered around the crow and ghostless guardians, you would have noticed that it hypothesized that the real source of the darkness is The Traveller. I don't know if it's meant in a literal sense or not, but if you take into account the whole council of the Nine and the queen of the reef, you'll find that they act as if you're mistaken for following the traveler, like they know something you don't that makes them resent or avoid it. Plus, Xur, being an agent of the Council of the Nine very much resembles the visual representations of the darkness shown in the game and grimoire. This makes me think that the future games and addons will see us either coming into conflict with those factions or turning away from the City and the Traveler to join either the reef or the group that the mysterious exo belongs to. (Could be the same)

At some point it itself will become a battleground and destroyed, and the guardians will be scattered, possibly joining different "sides", which could lead to a big story/gameplay shift to be introduced in the 'sequel' game where you're going to have to pick your allegiance and if could lead to branching story arcs.

I also like how when the Stranger says "A side should always be taken, even if it's the wrong side" And when she says "wrong side" she looks at us.

I have a theory The Traveler is a ship built by an empire in another galaxy ( happen at BC ) when they are in wars with a extremist group known as “The Darkness” came from the Outer Rim and have a purpose to conquer everything. The Darkness have overrun the empire and won the war so they take the leader to exiled, and control the empire themselves ( so maybe the triangle ship you see in Destiny 2 might not belong to them ). But before these leader being captured, they have developed a secret method in order to preserve all of their knowledge and technology, also they selected and brought some of the best of their people like scientists, researchers,... to that ship. And hope one day a civilizations could found it and help them to defeat their enemy and inherit all of their knowledge and tech, either.

I have a THEORY that the Traveler and the Darkness are two powerful beings without form known to the naked eye, and that the Traveler tests each race it comes into contact with to see if they are worthy of taking up the mantle of power the Traveler wields. The ability to create something from nothingness is that of the gods, each race before the Guardians (in generalization of the Humans, Exo, and Awoken) were put to the task of defeating the darkness so they could ascend to something similar to a god or Golden Age of Man like in Greek mythology. In Greek mythology the Age of Man had five stages ( the first three I will briefly summarize in the order I think the game put them in): The Golden Age of Man: A time of harmony and peace with long lasting life, fruitful nature, and interaction with the gods (the Traveler ascending humanity and granting them power upon it's arrival). The Bronze Age of Man: Man was war like and trained to be tough, they destroyed each other in wars with the end of the age marked by a great flood (the war that went on between the Guardians and other invaders, ending the conflict with the Darkness flooding in the solar system and the Traveler sacrificing itself to save what it uplifted). The Silver Age of Man: Man only lives a hundred years and squabble over one another in clashes that end one another's lives (the Guardians and people of the city on the brink of collapse again, but fighting to pass the torch and keep the light going. Crucible could also be tied into this.) With those three ages realigned to fit the narrative of Destiny and New Monarchy (faction outsider the Speaker's room) talking of uplifting the Guardians and people bringing back the Golden Age, I think that Destiny 2 is the second collapse/ major war that will lead the Guardians, people, and Traveler through the end of the Silver Age, into the Bronze Age, then (Destiny 3) leading them to their once great Golden Age where the Guardians and people share the characteristics of the Traveler and hold immense power great enough to repel the Darkness on their own.

Couple of points/questions/hypotheticals Something you said intrigued me in game speech and dislodge gives the impression that the traveler is the light itself or a manifestation of the light, but what if the the traveler is merely an agent or prophet/high priest figure for the light similar to how the darkness has the primes or the hive. We understand the factions we face are not the Darkness but rather branches and tools of it. So what if the traveler is merely the entity that served the light, which if true would beg the question is the light itself already dead or why hasn't it come tithe aid of its last hero. What if we killed the traveler. We know there was a golden age brought on by the traveler. However if the darkness was a moral destruction from the inside like the first position states perhaps the traveler was going to abandon us so we retaliated instead of being discarded like the fallen potentially were. I'm still holding onto what the original concept was going to be: the Traveler is REALLY the darkness, or at least something like that. If I got to choose, I would love for the story take this turn: The darkness is not actually evil, but the Traveler is not really good. A philosophical take on what is truly evil or good is basically waht I'm getting at. It would quite exciting.

I've always speculated that the traveler is something along the lines of the monolith from Space Odyssey 2001. It experiments with intelligent life, trying to learn something about them, but eventually taking pity on them and giving them some of its technology. The races that you fight I feel were "Failed projects", and the traveler discarded them for various reasons. Now they follow the traveler, haunting its path. They are the shadow casted by its light. The traveler was probably already injured when it arrived, and possibly offered humanity its tech so that they could help defend and repair it. But in the end, we were nearly driven to extinction. Now all we can do is struggle. We have enough resources to fight, but not enough to win. We are driven into a perpetual state of conflict, without recourse. When the traveler wakes, will it flee, abandoning us to join the dark? Or will it guide us to victory? Who knows?

In several of your videos you've referred to the Traveler as "He", and I was wondering if you've heard of the Isis theory, where in Rasputin sense a giant pulse, just before the collapse (potentially the collapse itself if not the trigger for it) and actually manipulates and protects Earth by using the Traveler's energy. In the Grimoire card itself there is something refereed to as Isis and takes control of it, so the you might consider changing your terms of the Traveler to She

I would love to see The Fallen and Humanity to ally. They were both chosen by the Traveler, and both were nearly destroyed by the Darkness. There is stories in Grimoire where Guardians have allied with Fallen on the battlefield to face a bigger threat. There is still some good in them, Variks is one good example.

+Faze Shronk Yeah never the Hive, they had a choice, Oryx (Aurayx then I guess?) had a choice, and they chose the Darkness over Light. And now he's dead after millenias of destroying other worlds. But he was just a tool of the Darkness. His Soul held hostage by the Worms and the Worms demanded to be fed by death of other living. Maybe in Destiny 2, we will see somekind of alliance between Fallen and Guardians. Variks could bring us closer, and Guardians could give Venus to the Elikshni. And in Destiny 3 Elikshni could be a playable Guardian race. Like Elites were in Halo.

I think it would be cool if half the humans started believing that the Fallen, Vex, and Cabal were the good guys. While the other half stuck with the Traveler and started a civil war between humans. Half fighting for the Darkness and half fighting for the Traveler.

Apparently the traveller was meant to be (secretly) evil/corrupt in the original game before most of the story was...there's some lore that states that the humans are misguided by the traveller and that the guardians are a form of darkness (in the lore the guardian sees a ghost and the ghost calls the guardian a dealer of death and darkness, and the guardian feels a flicker of doubt in the back of his mind)

B. oamere Actually the original content of the story was changed a couple months before release since the lead writer for Destiny (Joseph Staten) left for Microsoft, thus making Bungie unable to use the story most likely due to strange copyright laws. This is why the dialogue is all weird and confusing, why they are moving onto Destiny (2) instead of making DLC for ten years like they said they would, and why they most likely scrapped Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn as DLC content since it was in development after 3 head Bungie employees left (Martin O-Donnell, Joeseph Staten, and a lead artist for Bungie, hence why they scrapped unfinished content probably due to copyright laws).

Also think about this. Your ghost said in the black garden when you first enter it that it wasn't located on any type of star system, maybe the garden has something to do with the traveler because when you defeat the heart, light supposedly returned to the traveler so maybe the heart was actually the travelers heart and the traveler was the reason the darkness was coming because a fraction of the traveler was still evil! The traveler can't just be light, it has to be both the light and darkness.

as far as the darkness being tangible or not i assume it is somewhat tangible just as the light(omar agah had his light physically peeled by a heart of crota) and just as the goop on the garden humanirt creating/being used by the darkness is unlikely as far as we know due to the inscription that comes in destiny's limited edition: "We are surrounded by darkness. We always have been. Perhaps that is why the Traveler chose us. For even death cannot extinguish our light" we are surrounded by it but apparently can never be truly touched or corrupted by it and the darkness appears to be singular or if it's an armada it's incredibly poweful and moves as a singular swarm considering rasputin's report on what appears to be the darkness initial approach it's also worth noting that the event recorded by rasputin happened backwards in time(it ended and then began) so the most probable theories are ulan-tan's positon or the monist position or the acatalepitc cause the bend in time also implies ties to the vex although there is one thing largely undiscussed in destiny's lore: the gardener a creature or thing that's mentioned in the grimoire "GHOST FRAGMENTS: MYSTERIES" the card is as far as i can discern is written in the point of view of either rasputin or the traveler(although rasputin is still more likely) and it mentions the gardener as a "she" and states that "she held power beyond me" which could very well be rasputin talking about the traveler but what if it isn't? what if there is an entity with a power beyond that of a warmind that isn't either the darkness or traveler? and the "gardener" is the caretaker of a garden either figuratively or literally and the "garden" in destiny is usually referring to the black garden so could it be that the gardener is the one who cares or used to care for the black garden before it was corrupted by the darkness? could it be that some primal vex intelligence is the so called "gardener" and if yes how could the darkness defeat such a powerful entity? and if no then could it be that the darkness created the vex solely with the purpose of defending the garden for it or from the gardener? or an even more interesting theory could the gardener if not a vex intelligence have allied itself with the darkness as she "did not shrug and make herself alone"?

The Traveler didn't reject the Fallen, the Fallen were part of the Golden Age and they were known as the Eliksni. It was OUR sins that turned them to part of the Darkness, we rejected sharing the Traveler to them so when the collapse came they turned evil against us and had a hate for us because we were technically evil to them for not sharing the Traveler.

What is the Traveler? The Traveler is a remnant of one of the first inter-galactic civilizations. With the combined knowledge of all that came before it. Using Light Energy, it's goal was one of atonement. Creating and seeding life through out the universe. However, like all things, corruption is inevitable. Which is why one of the first civilizations to be created rebelled against it. Worshiping it as a god, until they realized their mistake. And when The Traveler abandoned them to the darkness of their despair, a seed was planted that would grow until it consumed them into a single purpose. The destruction of all The Traveler touches. To undo the works it has done, and bring about the darkness it wished to fill.

No, The Traveler is a advanced artificial intelligence with set directives. And in it's attempts to carry out those directives, unforeseen consequences arose. The Traveler set out to reseed a universe ravaged by war from the First. And one of the first civilizations it created. It was involved heavily in. So much so that the life it had created started to worship it as a god. And when they found out it was nothing more than a machine with advanced AI. Everything they knew crashed down around them. The Travelers departure only fed the despair and chaos that washed over them. Until the light of creation was extinguished from their minds. It was at this point what remained of their civilization united in a sole purpose. To abolish The Traveler and return the universe to the darkness.

Well it is pretty solid work on your end, although I hope Halo and Destiny find there own storylines, personally I see the traveler as a creator/god type character and the darkness more of a unexplainable intangible enemy, seeking only to eliminate all life.

These are good, but a couple things: I'd recommend throwing together an outline for what you're going to talk about if not an actual script. It will make your videos feel more structured and give an illusion, at least, of forethought. Go watch VaatiVidya's Prepare to Cry series and take notes.
