He's an automatic shoe-in, but not retired yet. HOF in 10 or 15 years, and we're all looking forward to the music he will make in the meantime.

Long ago, I read Jerry saying he has an unremarkable voice. It's true that his voice is not one-of-a-kind, not nearly as unique as Layne's. But he has a nice, warm, soft voice, and he sings in a truthful way, sort of the way he plays guitar. It might have something to do with his country roots. So it totally made sense that he sing, and there was a really nice contrast between their respective voices and singing that made them sound better together. The sound of them is like drinking chili pepper laced hot chocolate. Jerry was the chocolate. 😂

He has talked about how he enjoys that style of music and how there is truth in their lyrics and how he enjoys their storytelling songs. Country music is in his roots, he grew up with it, and it's noticeable in some of his guitar work and it's also inspired his songwriting style. Maybe read slower next time. Nowhere does Gomba13 say Jerry has that country style of singing, nor do they say AIC or Cantrell's work is made for conservatives.

Ain't that the truth. I haven't followed in years, but I have listened to some of their new stuff, but, honestly, to me, that's the definitive sound of Alice in Chains. Even off one of their more recent songs there's a point where the dual vocal harmony was so eerily close (more than normal) to Layne and Jerry that it gave me goosebumps.

I admire professional musicians but I also admire media people whose job it is to interview them. The true professionals among them are those who know how to make them talk all while making the conversation about the musician and taking up as little room in it themselves as possible. It's fine to see and hear the interviewer, as long as they are professionals. I do have a few favourite interviewers, you see and hear them but all they really do is highlight the interviewee. Not all interviewers are annoying as you say.

You only found another comment of mine that had some likes and because of that it was easier to find, but I also left comments talking exclusively about Jerry solo career and how I was happy with the new record. Now, I don't see the problem to also comment about Layne in a interview that Jerry himself talked several times about him and Alice in Chains early years. I'm a huge fan of Jerry, his solo work and the new lineup of AIC and the last 3 records. Saw them live twice. I don't go talking about Layne in everything they do or post. But Layne was a fundamental part of Alice in Chains and there's nothing wrong to talk about him and remember him even after all those years. Also, lots of bands end up after the singer dies, so that's why I talked about in the other comment that I was glad they didn’t. Now I know that there are people who only talk about Layne and don't show interest for AIC and Jerry new stuff, but I'm not one of them.

I think that when you have a best friend, when there were times of great challenge and frustration, even anger, a suddenly that friend is gone all the frustration is gone too. You'd give anything to have them back, but you can't and the things that you remember (unless you're jaded and can't forgive) are the good. That's what remains. You remember their smile, voice, the good times, the love. You bury everything else with them. That said, I watched a lot of these interviews, and this one is definitely one of the best.

My band had the privilege of touring with Jerry for a couple months during the Degradation Trip era. The dude overflows with the most down-to-earth kindness you'll ever encounter. Such a generous and gracious host. Icon is an understatement!

Thats amazing. Really, as a guitar player I am continuously listening and learning from jerrys work. I'm glad he is finally getting his recognition. Many of us in his alice days did not realize he actually sings in most of their catalog. And jar was mostly his work in terms of arranging composing, it was his baby. But so many of us singled out layne because he was the face of this band. I guess thats like the Beatles having the face of Lennon. So most of jerrys recognizable success came after aic disbanded and he finally stepped out of the shadows and produced boggy and his solo masterpiece d trip. As jerry now has toured and played with all his lengdary guitar 🎸 heros, he earned the right to be seen as an icon. But through all that he is so grounded, humble, and continues to thank those who put him there. That you got that chance to tour with him, thats incredible. An experience you'll always be grateful for and can relive in your mind as you grow older. As a musician thats priceless. I hope you still perform yourself as being a musician is an phenomenal 🎁 one must share with the 🌎. Good luck to you, keep rockin😎

Facelift for me is sensational. We Die Young is such an underrated song in their catalog. Every song on that album is a riff masterclass. We Die young and man in the box for me set the standard. But tracks like sea of sorrow, bleed the freak, I can’t remember, it ain’t like that, sunshine, put you down and real thing are amazing riffs. Then Staley’s vocals shine on every track.. drums are sick and a steady bass. Layne blows away love hate love.. it’s such an underrated album

I just so happened to be moving to Texas right after, and a station in Waco played 3-4 songs off Facelift multiple times a day in ‘04. 14 years after its unpopular release. This was great...no interviewer...just Jerry telling stories. He is an interesting person. I like him more after having the opportunity to hear him speak on his own and to talk about what he wants to talk about. I had seen him interviewed before and he seemed annoyed somehow by the interviewers. He seems much more likable without the interviewers directing the conversation. I can only listen to Alice & Chains periodically. I love the music, but the album Dirt is too sad for me to listen to every day. I like a variety of music. I haven't heard the newer stuff, but will check it out. Edit: I have been listening to Rainier Fog and I could listen to this much more frequently than Dirt. It rocks and is not as dark as I found Dirt to be. I dig it.

The problem with a lot of interviews is that they only have so little time to ask questions, so they all tend to ask the same ones, whether they intend to or not. The band being what it is, at least one of those questions is going to end up being about his dead bandmate. How many times do you want people bringing up a dead friend? Because people have been asking about Layne for 18 years. And what it boils down to is "yeah, he's still dead, and I miss him, what else do you wanna ask me about?"

Found AIC in College and it became the soundtrack of my youth. Still takes me back to college, friends, girls and parties. Nowadays I'm a Dad, with a job and endless fun projects at home. A few times a week, I'll crank up Would?, grab a broomstick mic and sing along at the top of my lungs like I'm Layne. It's my way of staying young. Sometimes my daughter will even jump in and sing along! Thanks Gibson for a great interview. I felt like I was sitting with Jerry in my living room. Met all these guys in Louisville on their first tour with William after Layne died. Had a meet and greet pass, plus front row tickets. They were so nice to all the fans and the show was 2hrs of perfection. Seeing and hearing Jerry play the Nutshell solo 5' from my face will forever be one of my greatest memories. Stars today should take a lesson in humility from Jerry.

Some of my youngest musical memories as a 4 year old child back in ‘99 was jumping up and down rocking out to Alice when my parents were playing it over the CD player. Forever nostalgic to me, this man helped influence me picking up a guitar. A truly diverse player, Cantrell is one of the finest we’ve ever been blessed with. Alice In Chains is THE greatest band to ever face this earth I love them with my whole heart MY HEART I’m obsessed and have been for some time. They just have such a unique sound and I can listen to their albums over and over again. I always find something new. The guitar riffs, guitar tone, Layne’s voice or Sean’s drumming. It all fits so well. They just speak to me so perfectly. I love it. I love them. So much.
