The point, surely, is that the packaging is unnecessary and just adds to the amount of waste we generate, be it in the UK, the US or wherever, it's not a geographical thing. I don't understand the element of 'convenience' you mention - what's inconvenient about being able to appreciate the ripeness of a tomato or enjoy herbs for their delicious perfume before you buy? That's got to be part of the pleasure of the food you eat. Opening packets just makes the whole process of cooking and eating so sterile and functional, don't you think?

Tay D. Fruit and vegetables minus the plastic is inconvenient? Sorry, I don't agree, the packaging creates huge amounts of waste and that's inconvenient. Reconnecting with the food you choose without the huge environmental cost associated with unnecessary packaging is no less convenient, surely, and smart.
