I met a young woman who crawled into a shopping cart with all her layers on and dragged a tarp over her head to sleep. Newspapers were the floor covering and it was winter and snowing. I only had a hot tea for her. She said the shelters were not safe enough. She could co nect a simple hard shell camper to her cart and harness herself or push it along and always have a safe insulated bed and lockable storage. Basic dignity of a place to undress or even squat over a bucket. Legal to deploy almost anywhere in the city. Parking a bike and trailer, thats all. We need a huge charity push! Every city in North America is feeling the housing pinch.

@@joycebelk4634 - So why are you blaming one person for the homeless? That's not even logical. A few years ago, my city received a little over $4 million from the Federal Government to improve the city. The mayor asked the citizens for their input as to how to better use the money. I replied by sending the mayor an email saying that with the homeless problem every city and community in the country is having and will all the unused property the city has like empty buildings and empty parking lots, it would benefit the city to adjust their zoning laws and establish tiny house communities and start homeless programs to re-enter them into the workforce and reteach them how to be self sufficient with helping them get jobs through the program which would also give employers some tax breaks. You know what they did with that $4 million dollars? They built these lavish apartment buildings and said they were low housing complexes with a studio starting at $1800 per month. Now you tell me what the common sense was in that spending spree and did it benefit the homeless?

The second motorcycle camper shown is made of water resistant canvas. As a former Boy Scout I wouldn't recommend it as canvas has to be retreated frequently after rain. I would suggest getting the optional brakes on the trailer. A slick road will put you down if the trailer is pushing you while trying to stop.

In most of Europe you need a campsite. So then a tent or a caravan or a gîte are obvious choises, but there is usually no discount for having a smaller caravan and no car. Some car parks, particularly in forests and near beaches allow motorhomes (RVs) but everything and everybody must be inside the vehicle. Caravans and tents are usually forbidden in such places, though some stealth tent camping still takes place deep in forests. My question is, what real freedom or advantage do these tiny caravans offer European campers? If city councils made cheap/free dedicated urban or suburban campsites for tents and small caravans and cycles (say 48 hours max stay) it could be good, supposing there is some advantage for the city. I have travelled a lot in motorhomes, but I still think that the best option for the typical holiday maker is a tent on a campsite, or an air bnb. If rain is a persistent problem where you holiday, a trailer-tent or mini caravan is a reasonable option - just to get you off the wet ground, but now you have something to tow, store and look after all year. If you must have more independence, then a DIY stealth van, probably with no windows and few facilities, offers a cheap solution. This can be good say for one person, but I wouldn't recommend stealth camping for extended periods, and I would carry a tent too for periodic campsite use.
