4-Ethyl-3-methyl heptane (alphabetic rule) but then methyl gets a lower position i.e. 3 than ethyl i.e. 4 then 3-Bromo-2-chloro butane also should be right but we write 2-Bromo-3-chloro butane any explanation???

@@anveshakumar7286 Hey, I found the answer to this. It's basically because numbering is done from the side that is closer to the substituent and not according to alphabetical order. Moreover the bromo chloro eg. has a symmetrical structure so numbering according to alphabetical order becomes a necessity. Whereas the same is not true for the ethyl methyl eg. which has assymetrical structure. (Draw the structure to understand). All the best for exams bud!✌

Sir at 30min56 secs from the start the equation has 6 carbon molecules and 13 hydrogen molecules. But as per formula CnH2n+2 where n=no.of carbon molecules shouldn't the equation be: C6H2X6+2=C6H14. So after CH3 from the left it should be CH2 and not CH.
