***** I think it is great in may ways but ppl go to far and there are greedy butchers out there. You must do your research and seek counselling before and after to ensure you move on and don't hooked on it. I personally want to do it some day as prevention if, I find I'm not growing old gracefully. And it would be a one time thing, do it all get on with life. Maintain by healthy living and products..

Sure the end result is nice. But honestly, she wasn't bad to begin with. What she needed was some self-love and confidence. It would have made her posture better, put a smile on her face, and given her the desire to dress better. It doesn't matter how much surgery they do on her. If her spirit is broken and she walks around with a scowl on her face, even now, she'll seem unattractive.

Kimberly Cabanas but it's not about whether WE think she looked one way or another, it's about her and how she felt. Plastic surgery can change people's lives for the better, and I'm sure nobody made her get these surgeries, she wanted them. We should be happy for her!

How terrible for them to say that she's going to become a "real woman" after surgery. She's already a real woman. She's not even ugly in the first place. Although I have to say that the surgery results are amazing. If she is doing it for herself, more power to her but geez.

She looked really scary before she got the surgery... After the surgery is she looking warm and one you wanna approach... And guys don't say that she didn't need it... Like come on its her own body and face, she decides over it not you... + Korea is totally different from the west even though the west are beginning to be like the east too... She wanted to be accepted in that society

no she didnt. yeah she had weird hair and clothes, slight extra weight. but her face was not ugly, i feel like im missing something. she did not need plastic surgery. no one is saying this to be nice, believe me I am blunt. It just seemed unnecessary. like, getting plastic surgery to turn an dusty apple into an orange, when you can just wipe the apple with a cloth to make it look shiny so you can appreciate it. She doesnt look any prettier, sorry, but i wont tell u what u want to hear, i dont think this is healthy. on another note, why is it that celebrities in the us do plastic surgery and look like clowns yet when asians do it, you cant really tell. although tbh as I look at more asian who get plastic surgery and get used to it, I am starting to be able to tell since they all seem to be getting the same exact type of face like clones

nattenshusfreaken Welp, maybe she should have just cleaned up, changed her hair clothes and make up. We do that in the states too.but you dont need plastic surgery to learn how to wear a flattering outfit or hairstyle. It was just completely unnecessary. She simply did not need to become someone else to become beautiful. Its overkill.

The girl wanted this type of transformation not because of society but because she was molested as a child and has not felt comfortable with herself since. This surgery was for her healing NOT for the pressure Korea's beauty standards .

Ok, I think I might have a things for tomboys but hey, I want her so-called "masculine features" -_- It's sexy with strong, defined facial structures -w- I'm an Asian woman and I'd like to be somewhat manlier x'D And why are the doctors/people in general so negative towards her tattoos and piercing?! "ugly"? Ok so it's only sexy and hot if it's on a male's body apparently.. And a woman in S. Korea have to look like this and this and the bullshitting continues. +Maddie Kan it's definitely a cultural thing.. Koreans are raised to think that if you are not born with beauty (big eyes, small nose and chin, light skin) then to make yourself beautiful. It's very common to get the eye and nose surgery and many many many kpop idols have gone under the knife.. I may be bias because I am Korean, but I don't think there is problem at all..

Chris p That's true, but well if she has decided it for herself to have a surgery I find it okay. If she is discontented with herself then is it her own right to change it. The main thing is that she feels well-being and is more cofident etc. afterwards.

This is just really disappointing to me. "I'm now a beautiful daughter" The fact that not only herself, but the whole Korean community didn't find her beautiful, because she didn't fit the "standards" and because she was being herself, is really sad. I hope Korea will start learning that plastic surgery doesn't solve all problems & you don't have to be beautiful to have it.

Have you been ugly before? You don't even know her feelings before surgery. They wanted themself to change and that's why they requested to the tv show. Its their choice not yours. If she didn't like her face herself and now she likes it, then what's the problem?
@Tubie1111
@Tubie1111 9 жыл бұрын
박재영 The problem is, she shouldn't have been made to feel she was ugly or not good enough and that's the problem with this plastic surgery generation/trend. Everyone has felt unattractive at one time or another but it should never get so bad that you feel surgery is the only option or you can't live a normal life. Her family and friends should have been uplifting her and making her feel good about herself. It's sick that someone would get so low that they would only feel better after their face was cut open and didn't resemble themselves anymore. A person is worth more than their face and pretty soon Korea is going to have a country full of plastic clones. It's unique features and structures, gone. Stop letting the media tell you what is beautiful!
@voxschultz3958
@voxschultz3958 9 жыл бұрын
MmmHmmm Problem is, they don't care about being 'unique', they care about getting into the work force, making money, and doing well in their lives. Korean culture is so far off from American culture that you can't really compare the two as twins, as it's still an asian culture where family and social appearance stands above all else (even personal feelings or personal desires). Image isn't just a big deal in Korea because they're vain people. Your picture, in South Korea, is attached to your resume. That, of course, is an incredibly crucial factor in all of this. For larger companies and higher-paying jobs, people want to hire people that look clean, fresh, and represent their business in a positive aspect. Overweight people are seen as lazy and unable to take care of themselves (i.e. unmotivated to visit a health spa/gym, lack of self-control in eating portions, general uncaring for other people's opinions). The same goes for people that don't use make-up to make themselves look better for other people - it's seen as a lack of effort, sloppy, and something that also tells the interviewer or employer that you might present a problem for them in the future that comes from the amount of 'negative' personality you display. And while 'cutting their faces' isn't that pretty of an option (and used to be a taboo subject in SK, as well), some people would rather take the risk and dish out the money to look more attractive to employers or to their preferred sexes than feel 'unique' in their natural skin with no wife/husband and working a job in a fish market. It's just the reality, and as long as people continue to have eyes and the world continues to have marketing media, it's not going to change much. But perhaps we should look at more important matters like... say... the incredible shunning and essential 'banning' of homosexuals in South Korea. That seems like a much bigger issue of 'let's control everyone and make them conform' than plastic surgery is.
@Tubie1111
@Tubie1111 9 жыл бұрын
What about uniqueness as a race/culture? Basically South Korea is saying that having Korean features/looking Korean is bad. The surgery is to make them look more westernized. The idolization of movie and pop stars isn't helping. I find that sad. You can present yourself professionally and well kept without having to resort to surgery. That line of argument is ridiculous.
@voxschultz3958
@voxschultz3958 9 жыл бұрын
What they're idealizing is the 'perfect' features of a very feminine, very friendly-looking Korean woman's face. It's not 'to make them look more Westernized', it's to 'polish the imperfections you were born with' (if anything). This, along with the Korean obsession with looking young and youthful for as long as possible, is more or less what they aim to go for. As an example, if a Korean employer has two candidates for potential hiring at a legal office as a secretary, both of the female candidates have the same experience, but one of them has gotten plastic surgery to enhance her looks while the other has kept with their startlingly crooked nose, which one will that employer pick? It's a question with an obvious answer that really doesn't need to be stated. The same could easily be compared for men, as they, too, face the same scrutiny. It's the cons of having your picture attached to your resume, but it helps the employer to make sure they know who's coming in. Anyways, back on track. I, myself, like the imperfections of faces. Variety makes things different, and different is nice. I was only trying to explain that it's not a simple 'why can't everyone find beauty in what you're born with' sort of situation, but rather a cultural one that will take generations upon generations (and maybe even a war) to disrupt.

She was prettier before than after!!!!! It was just the sad expression on her face that made her look unattractive. Her mouth actually was nice - protruding lips give you a pout, which is considered sexy in the west. A positive attitude and some good make up would have made her a beauty. Wtf her natural nose was prettier than the point silicone nose she has and her protruded jawline wasn't even that severe. She didn't look that ugly before maybe if she just got procedures done to her face and used some makeup to look more feminine she'd look perfect. So unnecessary. Especially getting a jawline surgery has permanent side effects. You cant move your jaw properly and cant talk that well let alone the pain that will occur

I get that yes, everyone is beautiful in their own way blah blah, but Korea ISN'T like, I don't know, USA, or Europe in general. We're talking about a country where you can be bashed about you looks, and even if you're so fucking smart and have your degrees and your career you can be nothing. We talk a country where people commit suicide because their looks (and other things, of course). I don't like surgery, I think it's something to do some retouch but nothing more, but if the person who wants to do that, does it because he or she wants to be happy, it's fine. It's you choice, and it's their choice to be pretty in the way they want. Yes, Korea have to start accepting themselves, but this is going to be a SLOW movement, so meanwhile, if there's people who are unhappy and even have depression because of how they look, just let them be and make what they want with their money and their bodies.

Sora6893 wow to hear it that clearly it's really shocking... in most Western countries I say it's more about what you can or who you know or how confident you present yourself. looks are a bonus. it doesn't depend on your looks to get a job... and it's socially not acceptable to discriminate people based on their looks.
@Sora6893

alyceGoRound Sadly, I've seen a lot of people from korea saying that it's like this... A lot of teachers are hired if they're pretty, even if they aren't the best teachers, if the best teacher is "ugly", then, she's going to have a harder time getting a job... It's really sad, but if ps is going to make them confident, go for it, what matters is that they're ok with their body and face, even if they need surgery...
@alyceGoRound
@alyceGoRound 9 жыл бұрын
Sora6893 idk it just looks like there are few ppl who have the power to "dictate" over other's life. and i guess stat's what society becomes. there is no one complaining about "the boss who didn't hire them because of looks". everywhere else you can protest against it and there will be a lot of support. but i feel ppl in korea will blame the person who's not pretty instead of saying that's not right to treat ppl like that... srsly it has to do with their strong patriarchic tradition...
@Sora6893
@Sora6893 9 жыл бұрын
alyceGoRound Exactly! Of course there's people who is against that, but you can see that even in articles of idols, they bash the idol if is "ugly" and if he or she has done surgery, they bash them because "oh, he did surgery, that's bad"... It seems they can't agree in something...

This makes me feel like the beauty standards in American are not so bad. Despite how competitive it can be here too in the job market, what sets you apart most is not just your look but your ideas and your personality. Being able to boldy engage with anyone and always having the next best innovative idea, is actually more important then looks in a way here. But then again in our Western culture, we are more about individuality and standing out from the crowd. In a more collectivist culture, people like to blend in, so the only way to stand out in a way I suppose, is to be part of a practice that everyone else engages in, that almost everyone in that culture can deem attractive and an acceptable practice.

I can't believe this is an actual show broadcasted in korea..phrases like "reborn into a woman" is such an unhealthy mentality...especially for the young audiences, boys and girls, of today's age. are they not considered any gender because they're not considered beautiful by society? PS won't matter because the children will come out ugly? no problem, by the time they're 12 they'd already have it on their birthday wishlist.

if anything, the only thing they should've corrected on her was the overbite. everything else was just fine. a proper haircut, a little bit of makeup and some other clothes would've also done the job! she was beautiful in her way and different. she had this unique cool vibe about her, that just seemed a bit blurry and hidden, through her non existing self confidence and aggressive attitude. so of course people couldn't see the beauty in her, since she was probably somewhat similar to a walking corpse with that stressed out expression she had in this video^^. someday, everything will fade away anyway... and then you will remember how much you truly missed out on in life... if i went trough this kind of procedure and looked into the mirror afterwards, i would feel disgusted and ashamed of myself. i'm not hating on this woman in particular, i respect her as a human being, but i just feel sad for our society and wanted to share this with someone :'P don't get me wrong, i am not anti plastic surgery, i mean if it's only 1-3 small things that you want to get corrected on your body that is great! but to try to become a completely different person trough surgery, changing your whole face.. that's a serious problem in my eyes, something no one should see as the only way to find happiness.

There's a translation error.. before you're so quick to judge about these subtitles, think of the possibility of translation errors as a lot of these youtube translated clips are done very poorly. The show did not say she turned into a "real woman", they said "for her to become the woman she wanted to be" as in the girl, who requested to go through with this operation, had expressed her hopes that she could become more feminine looking and such. So they said she was undergoing operation to look the way she wanted, not because she should be reborn into a "real woman".
