Yep, and apparently Marty also tried to jeopardize Mick's career because Marty was afraid that Mick was going to leave the company. That ended up being a self fulfilling prophecy.
@Christopher-md7tf
@Christopher-md7tf Жыл бұрын
That's what happens when managers with no actual knowledge of the subject matter try to dictate schedules, it just doesn't work. Same thing with the OST, Marty clearly thought that they don't even need Mick to do it. "I mean, surely re-arranging a few parts into an OST can't be so hard, right? And we've already got all the tracks, so why pay Mick a lot of money for that when we can just have our own sound designer do it?" And look how that turned out lol. I've literally never seen waveforms like that in a professionally released product in my entire life.
@notaninconspicuoususername6065

I sincerely doubt that; bad management doesn't start with employees doing their job. Stratton was terrible well before that and I believe Mick criticizing the schedule had little to nothing to do with his treatment.

this sums it up soooo good... our favorite media has gone full capitalism mode, no love in AAA games anymore, sometimes we get something good like God of War, but most of the times our favorite franchises are ruined by Corpo Greed and the need to earn as much money as possible... instead of letting this inherently creative media be CREATIVE

That paragraph you didn't read aloud is appalling... to go through all he went through and get these threats would be unbearable emotionally and physically. The mistreatment here is nothing short of criminal, and assuming this is the truth - Marty (and associated parties) deserves to be fired immediately and put in prison for defamation, harrasment, among other clear injustices. The idea that Marty and his lawyers even attempt to refuse to take down the reddit post because it would cause harm to his reputation makes my blood boil.

I was suspicious of Marty's burial of Mick from the start but Mick's rebuttal was far more horrifying than I imagined. Even before, hearing that Marty didn't start negotiations on a contract with Mick until January even though he announced the OST bundle at E3 in the summer had me thinking Marty had ulterior motives. Marty having Chad Mossholder work on the OST at supposedly the last minute did not jive with the raw number of tracks that he edited. When it ended up twice the length of 2016, it made me think Marty was asking for the impossible even with his implied January start of Mick's contract, much less the actual March finalization reported by Mick.

Mr. Bill, a prominent artist in the electronic music scene and all around insanely knowledgeable producer who’s given master classes on working in DAWs (digital audio workstations) did a podcast with Mick. He is a kind hearted human being and he has a ridiculous amount of knowledge and attention to detail in his craft. I noticed this since that Open Letter on Reddit. He never apologized once, after all, customers were frustrated by the subpar product the OST album was and he is a representative of the provider; shifted all the blame on Mick Gordon even though MartyScum was his leader himself and should have controlled tightly or replaced Mick ASAP if he had been such a liability (Mick wasn't) in such short deadline; was extremely anti-ethical to expose publicly sordid business of a failed business relationship, accurate or not; on top of that, never promised to the public (customers, a detached term MartyScum used many times throughout his letter) to do better, never promised a fix to that OST Album, and to this day and beyond the official OST remains that mess. All that MartyScum did was a tremendous effort to convince the consumers the shitty product he sold to them was at fault of the manufacturer then nothing should be done about it; normally such ploy should be seen as very preposterous and insulting. But it worked... until now. I always saw MartyScum as a misfit guy that had several issues to communicate in Public and clearly trained a lot todo a decent job at Communication. I think now everybody sees it's worse than that.

Marty is definitely not a psychopath, he has a different problem, he may be the least gifted person in Id, yet he is their head. He's firmly viced via corporate mindset, he has the least pull and headspace to care in a way you'd expect from a guy who enjoys with the people he "works with", as he is riding a wave of conformism, "good for the company-ism". He was by momentum trying to preserve a way of interests, that let him get up so high. He definitely knew that, partially for sure. Trying to be worthy, be a good feel guy, yet it wasn't right. He is Zenimax's guy to "speak sense" into Id. He is their prized "CEO of no questions asked" , "what we say brings money" , as he does not have the merit and talent to be a leader, he is the soft liked guy, with impostor syndrome, to whom corps blow up the ass a bit, and he keeps doing what the "consensus" and "practice" is. He doesn't have quality reach into the creative process on the same note as the devs, and "the best he could do" is watching out for the company's financial interests, to which he did have a skewed, almost under sandal like, obedient, respect, due to his feelings of inadequacy, "as a dev", to betray the chances he got, by the "suits trusting him" to betray by not performing well enough. You know, he knows, he could be glad to be there, and for the most part, he was in disbelief, the guy just never had the head to navigate it all, in the circumstances, he was not the man who could push with Id, at the position of power he was in. You can tell he always played second fiddle, to anyone with him. Marty got lost in what's good and bad, he wasn't the firestarter for his own benefit at the base, or for a do or die, all else be damned, view of things.

I always knew that Mick Gordon would never intentionally undermine his work as a composer, based on his work with Doom 2016 & the first 2 seasons of Killer Instinct. I said months ago on YongYea's video covering ID's Open Letter that the entirety of the Open Letter was full of subtle and obvious signs that the letter was clearly written to be a PR stunt, intended to shift the blame across to Mick Gordon. When I outlined all of this in the comments section, the amount of people who decided to "ignore" those factors that turned around and criticised me for openly analysing the letter methodically for these issues with it effectively silenced any fair discussion of what really happened. I even said that it looked like ID were doing this on purpose, quoting sections of the Open Letter that were extremely suspicious. I said that ID were not telling us the full story. And yet, here we are, with undeniable proof that the people calling out ID's Open Letter for being a PR stunt were correct in doing so. If anything, we should walk away with the consideration that when any company posts an open letter to the community, that we should carefully and fully examine such material for suspicious or incorrect information that contradicts established facts.

The entire post was a very wholesome farewell letter that mentioned his contributions and praised his skills, ending with the announcement of a previously unused track they would release on an upcoming album and will also be added to the game. I forgot just how absolutely nightmarish Mick Gordon's situation was but sadly I'm not surprised that monsters like Marty exist. Those people don't even deserve to go to hell, they deserve what lies below.

It’s a real big shame this has happened considering Mick is insanely talented and Doom Eternal is a fantastic game on its own. Like this entire thing really should never have happened and we should have had a fantastic product with zero controversy but Marty had to screw it all up

I mean. It's eternal. Low ammo, take control away from the player and show them where enemies spawn - all that bullshit. Maybe if they listened to MG it would have been a better game, but I really don't care about it besides the technical skill as a piece of software and visual fidelity.

When they announced the OST they DID have a contract for it, but not with Gordon. That Chad what-ever-his-name-is was already made to make the OST. (Not a contract because he works for them.) That's why Chad had final say on everything and his name was on every song as an author. I'm pretty sure from the very start of everything they planned to have Chad take all Gordon's in game audio and rejected music and make an "OST" out of it. Trying to use Gordons work without his knowledge or consent. The fucked up part is when they were rejecting his music over and over, and then claiming he didn't meet deadlines. All the music they rejected they actually were using and planned to use. They were just milking Gordon for more content than he was contracted to do. They denied him pay for 11 months to make him keep producing more all the while taking everything and handing it over to Chad to start putting together OST songs with it. During those 11 months he wasn't even contracted for the OST yet, but had proof Chad was using his rejected work(through the meta data) during that exact time.

So they were deliberately holding back on contracting Mick the soundtrack, purely so they could have Chad create it without any extra cost beside his existing salary. Utterly fucked.

I remember reading Marty's lies, and feeling so sad to know Mick was such an asshole. That very talented man that has created one my most favorite soundtracks ever, Killer Instinct's and Doom 2016's. I also remember to feel that it was very strange that such a passionate person would be this way. Now, after Mick's response, I feel so bad for Mick, what a terrible nightmare. It hurts even more knowing how much passion he has for his work and Doom, and that he tried every other way to fix this situation, but Marty and his lawyers were too focused on hate, destroying Mick's reputation and Doom Eternal for their own insignificant, shitty, egos. Fuck 'em to hell!
