Idaho 2023 Updated Hunt Regulations

Updates for 2023
Moose
Reduced by 28 tags
3 new hunts were added in 48, 63-1, and 68A-2
Boundaries Modified in 43, 54, 68A-1 and 60A
Bighorn
Rocky Mountain increase by 5 tags
Two new late hunts in 21L and 28-1L
Increase of 1 tag in unit 11
California sheep decreased by 1 tag
Units 41-1 and 41-2 were combined
The two hunts in 42 were combined into 1 longer hunt
A total of 98 tags available in the state
Mountain Goat
Unit 67 was closed
New hunt in Unit 61
Pending training for gender identification
Total of 41 tags in the state
Not officially released until Mid April
Deer
Reduction in anterless due to severe winter focused in east idaho
More opportunity in unit 14 due to CWD
Whitetail hunts will expand in units 19A, 23, 24, and Salmon Region
Elk
Biggest reduction will be 2,500 to 500 tags in the Pioneer Elk Zone due to objective is being met
Boise River B season will extend by 5 days and overlap with deer season
There will be less anterless in the weiser river zone
Big Desert Elk Zone will see some tags shift from one unit to another to address depredation issues
Additional depredation tags will be permitted against public opinion due to crop damage
Pronghorn
Youth hunt will be added to southwest region
Unit 63 tags will be cut from 25 to 10 due to winter severity
Black bear
Electronic calls will be allowed in unit 21 and 28 in the salmon region
Mountain Lion
A second tag will be allowed in Unit 41 and 42
Electronic calls will be allowed in unit 21 and 28 in the salmon region
Wolf Trapping
Foothold trapping will open on Sept. 10 to standardize trapping season
Trapping will remain the same in Blaine County and areas with Grizzly bears.
