brother, take the rope end that's tied to the lowest rung, around the rung over and tied to the same rung as the other end of the rope is tied to. you can raise and lower the ladder and no loose rope to trip over and tangle on things. love your video!

Two more ladder tips: Set your extension ladder against a wall with a 1:4 offset ratio. If your ladder is 4' tall, set the ladder base at 1' away from the wall. If your ladder is 16' tall, set your ladder base at 4' away from the wall. And try to keep your hips within the vertical rails of the ladder when working. Be SAFE everyone! God Bless!

Do you ever spray the fascia? I have everything masked (except the shingles) to spray the fascia and soffits. I heard you say you roll the fascia. If I want to spray the fascia, can I mask the shingle edge with paper and clothespins? Because we likely need Kilz and 1-2 coats of paint, I just want to spray it on. Is that a bad idea?

In your opinion, what is the best paint to use for soffits and fascia? Edit: And thank you so much for this video! I have a 4,500 swift home and I know I could do this except for the height of my home in the back in one area. I’m really not sure I could reach it. I don’t believe they make ladders that tall lol. And I’m scared of heights that high too. I am getting a new roof and new siding but the soffits and fascia will be quite a bit more money and I considered painting myself. Ugh...doubt I can do this though just because of the height.

At 13:29 you are caulking and seem like you proceeded to paint over the caulking right away. Are you using some kind of caulking that allows you to do that? I bought Big Stretch caulking and it says to wait 4 hours before painting. Thats a long time if I need to get the job done the same day. Can you tell me what kind are you using or is it ok to paint over it even if it says to wait.

How long can you leave the paint in the gun before it clogs it. I noticed in the video it looked like you had your gun loaded but would use the roller and brush then come get the sprayer
@kapnkerf25324 жыл бұрын
You can actually leave paint in a gun overnight. You only need to cover the paint can up with plastic wrap or something. But if it's for a few moments, it's usually not a problem. You just don't want to leave the gun under pressure for extended periods. Just my amateur 2 cents from painting my cabinets.

I initially thought this too, but It doesn't look like the ladder is touching the gutter. You can see it flex when he moves with the two points of contact being the exterior wall on the house and the ground.

Hi, with your videos i painted my house yesterday thank you. I started in the side of the house to practice, that wall came out very bad, the other part of the house came out actually good. I did have issue with paint spotting/flashing, not sure what the actual term is, but its a 14 foot high wall, and i can see lines. Any suggestions on how to fix it? My theory is that the weather was to hot causing it to dry to fast, and also it was just hard to reach with a 8 foot ladder.
@oskarbjornstad8774 жыл бұрын
Ronald Cruz you have to keep a wet edge. What that means is you can’t let the paint dry then go back over it. This is especially true with satin type sheens and dark flat colors. Lighter flat colors you can cheat a little. What I do is I’ll follow whatever board I’m painting from start to finish. So this house for example I would paint 2-3 rows of shakes at a time and move horizontal until that row is finished and go back and forth, from top to bottom, until the wall is complete. Work in the shade if possible so you have more time to move your ladder(s) across before the paint dries

So by looking at your intro, I see that you've done all the walls with the light colors without caring too much about the overspray on the windows trims and then paint the trims with a darker color and then be careful about protecting the light color with enough masking. I had to bite my thong about that basic concept with the juniors I was working with.

Amazing skills to do all the work you do from a ladder. Personally I wouldn't work off a ladder when painting so high. A ladder is really only meant for access not a working platform. Scaffolding is much safer and better to work from.

Great Video, always professional and knowledgeable, I only wish you would give your audience a ball park figure range (6k 8k 10k) depending on Your region and prep level for the project so people can better understand what they expect to pay for a job at this level, basic, med, high and difficulty and Results. I say this because, I'm also in this profession and there no industry Standard for what people expect to pay for different levels of service. There no painter union or United Painters of America.

Brother if your actually good and busy u can charge pretty much whatever within reason. What’s killing our reputation is guys charging a lot saying they’re good then doing 0 prep and the house looks great for a week before it starts peeling again then the next guy who fits there (me) has to do twice the prep work and has to charge twice the price and customers thinking the good ones are screwing them over. I apologize for that rant from WI
@OrionConstellationHome4 жыл бұрын
Oskar Bjornstad , exactly! Completely agree! I got a few bids on my house. I asked for clarification: how, when, what kind of paint or caulk, pressure washer psi,etc ... Then I asked for the steps I thought were necessary on old cedar siding prep and more prep than bids showed. Got No, No ... no one wanted to scrape peeling paint at all. They just wanted to spray it without any prep- crazy! So I am watching Chris’s videos, got his tools and doing it myself! I have to teach all summer two university classes to afford to paint one house according to these bids and getting a quality work I learn from Chris’s videos. Professionals stop by and say I do too good prep no one would do - o well, I want to live in this house for many more years! And all this exercises make me so strong! Thanks for your comment!
@stevenrod74 жыл бұрын
@@OrionConstellationHome I would use a Turbo tip on the pressure washer at minimum 3000 psi first to break off the old paint as much as I could, obviously this type of prep work is time consuming and labor intensive, so price will reflect that and most painting services or painters dont like to get into this kind of restoration, since it alot of work and time involved to just get it properly prepared to prime and painted with all the corrections needed to make a paint project look great, some owners dont want to pay the cost and also expect that this type of preparation to be done and not willing to pay for wood rot damages and repairs before it can actually be painted. Most will move onto a easier painting project to make faster money.
@OrionConstellationHome4 жыл бұрын
Steven Rodriguez, Thank you. I agree. I did use a torso tip. It helped, thanks. I am almost done. I repaired rotten wood with Rot Fix Epoxy 4 steps process. It looks good, feels like a metal strong. We’ll see. Everything takes lots of time to prep house really good. I bought sprayer and tips and extensions... my adventure is challenging but rewarding. Just take time to do things well. Will be spraying tomorrow. Wish me good weather.
