I this is a fine idea. The basic concept can be achieved in many ways. This sparks thought and, that is the beauty of it.

I hung on until the end. Wow. Very clever. How neat for a workshop. Please unwind fully before using. Coiled electrical cord is a heater. It will melt together if not unraveled.

Showed my grandfather, he thought it was a fantastic idea.. he's going to make 3 or 4 for his (hobby) shop You'd have to see his shop.. there is organised ( nothing wrong with that) then there is grandad's shop...example: he uses his skill saw...he takes it apart .. completely and cleans all the sawdust out...so that might give you an idea of his shop..but he's grandad and I love him ☺️👍

Now that is extremely cool... ... and suitable for both left and right handed operators 😉 Perhaps, instead of gluing the far end of the spindle, you could insert a male stop end (glue it in), drill a hole in its center and screw the end plate onto it. This way you can dismantle the device when the plastic bottle wears out and re-use the spindle in a new bottle.

Hey maybe you could make this again but use pallet wood for the parts you used plastic. I was thinking that not everyone would have access to the plastic you used to make the handle but they would be able to grab a free pallet from somewhere and cut it out of wood. Was thinking you could also make the plumbing tube inside with maybe some pencils or strips of wood glued in a round circle with the center still hollow. The object is to use found objects or cheaper ones I assume so these were just some ideas I had..hope you don't mind me commenting. (Ps this was a great idea for a worker who wants to keep is extension cords picked up or great task for kids to "help" with when cleaning things up in the garage.)

I really like the idea but its too much work for very little praticality. Im a handyman, its just much simpler to wind up the extension cord by hand and use a velcro strap to tie it up. Thats my method Thx for sharing

Only one thing i would add to the lid is a piece of rubber cut with a hole just a bit smaller than the cord so when you roll it up it wicks any water or debris off the cord keeping it clean and mess free for next use

Do something similar with a 5 gal bucket for those 50 and 100 foot cords. Leave a short tail with the male plug hanging out a hole you cut in the side,, tie a knot in that cord to keep it from going into the bucket. Feed the female end out the hole in the top tying a knot in it to keep it from falling in. Replace the lid and feed the cord into the bucket starting with the male end. When it's all in the bucket, connect the two ends of the cord and you won't ever get them damaged. When you need to use it, set the bucket by the wall plug, pull out what you need. When done, push it back into the tub and plug the ends together. Never have a kink or tangled cord again, it protects the cord, it's easy to carry, and easy to store. Same thing to store chain or ropes except you only need the hole in the top. With rope tie the end to the bucket handle to keep the end handy. With chain tie a piece of copper wire to the handle and use that to keep the chain from falling into the bucket. You can use small buckets for small rope/chain/string. You could divide a bucket inside with vertical wood sheets and have more than one compartment for different ropes, or chains. (Separate exit holes) Be sure that the top holds the divider in place. Wood works better than cardboard. If you start pulling rope or string from the center of the spool, you won't have a problem with tangles either.

If you paint the last of the cord ,green, yellow, red. You'll know when you're running out of cord. They use that trick on anchor chains in the U.N. NAVY. Different colours same reason. It works.

I was curious becoz it was a container & such a big effort to complete. As I get older I try to use less effort to do things & that looked like all hands on deck to pull the cord out & wind in again. Needs auto release switch & button like vacuum cleaner cord.. :) Still great idea well done.
