This is a video in my new series of 1-on-1 interviews, conducted with people who - in my view - are doing interesting work with ideas that matter, often (though not exclusively) from the field of philosophy.
In this one, I have a Zoom conversation with Coleman Flaherty, who is the founder of the company White Collar Consult, which brings together people convicted of white collar crimes to help others who are being tried of white collar crimes not just to reduce their sentences, but also to take accountability for their actions, engage in moral reformation, and provide their stories to younger people as cautionary tales.
Coleman Flaherty was a registered stockbroker on Wall Street, working for firms like Morgan Stanley and Lehman Brothers. He also founded several successful micro-cap newsletters, and assisted companies in going public. As a result of breaking laws, he ended up working as an informant for 5 years for federal law enforcement, and then received a non-custodial sentence of 1 year of probation to be served in home confinement. In this interview, he narrates his story in depth, notes where he went wrong, argues for the need for ethically mentoring younger people who are working in financial and securities fields.
