Once I used Idemitsu ZEPRO 0W-16 SN for my SUZUKI ALTO HA36 (0.66L NA, CVT). It worked well even though the water temperature gets almost 100 deg. The R06A engine was lovely while 30 minutes running at 5,000rpm.

A Toyota mechanic on KZbin says follow the 0w16 because he says it has a special variable oil pump. I like my 5w30, of course that is what my engine requires.

Do they recommend 0w16 - 0w20 in 110 degree weather? The whole idea of High-Low Viscosity is to keep the engin from seizing up from lack of lubrication!

the summer winter thing is not really as valid anymore with liquid cooled engines. Sure it may add a few degrees each way, the ambient temperature is so much lower than the engine temp its not going to make the biggest difference once up to temperature....

@@daveroski In older vehicles the manufactuers viscosity rating went by the ambient chart as stipulated in the owners manual even for water cooled engines. With the advent of Turbo Chargers the working tempature of oil went up.....then add 3 digit temps that raise the cooling + the oil. You see where I am getting at? My quastion is how close does synthetic oil follow the ambient chart?

I have used many oil selectors from major motor oil manufacturers and almost all of them recommend thicker oil (after W ) for my vehicle than the automaker recommends. Why is that? Thank you.

Your lubrication of the engine parts doesn't matter to car companies. It will die in two years but you reached new higher exhaust gas emission. All that matter these days. Sad 😔

Use the recommended oil of your owner's manual please. Whatever that number without the W is (16/20/30) do not change that number. The temperature outside could reach 53°C and it doesn't matter because the engine coolant system should keep the engine at the appropriate operating temperature.

Use 5w-30, never use a lighter oil than what the manufacturer recommends

The only substitution you can use would be 0W-30. The number with the W only matters with when it's cold. The 30 can not change. That is the operational viscosity. If you can lower then you could have slippage because of the thinner viscosity

@@jaylaw8242 I believe Toyota has said if unable to find 0W16 , then to use 0W20 . Strangely , then says at next oil change , change back to 0W16 . In my 2020 Toyota Camry I use 0W16 and at every oil change , use MotorKote , anti-friction additive . When it becomes spring / summer , I will start to use 0W20 .

Ah perdón, para estar garantizado, tiene que ir al Toyota dealer más cercano y pedir el “CVT fluid.” Hay videos que no recomiendan CVT fluid de otra marca, ya que no se garantiza los aditivos necesarios para el transmisión K313 (del Corolla)

Bla bla bla. You didn't convince me at all. Those low viscosity oils is a cancer for the engine but there's nothing g we can do. Cars started to be castrated more than 20 years ago. I suffer when I see a 4 or 6 cylinder muscle car etc

That’s a fair point. Clearly for a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid the manual says 20. Not 16. Perhaps in extremely cold climates and I mean extreme, 16 sounds ok to me. Cheers.
