Hi The Panther, the body of the hub can be changed and the free hub body too. You can change it to another type like Shimano, Sram or Campagnolo. But you cannot convert pawl to Ratchet system. Kind regards, José, DT Swiss

Great so I can change a 370 hub with a threaded QR as shown in the video , to accept an XD driver body with a three-pawl system?
@dtswiss
@dtswiss 4 жыл бұрын
Hi The Panther, not all pawl hubs are the same. Over the years we have made different systems with 2-pawl and 3-pawl but only 3-pawl systems since 2014 offer different free hub body and axle standards. If your hub has a steel axle and screw-on end caps you have a 2-pawl hub. Kind regards, José, DT Swiss

Greetings DT Swiss and thanks for making great products- I have an old silver Hugi DT Swiss rear disk hub with an aluminum 8-9-10 star ratchet freehub (steel star tooth rings, single spring). 10mm diameter steel QR axle, 135mm width. The splines are pretty gouged (by the small sprockets!). Is it possible for me to upgrade to a XD freehub which eliminates gouging? Or steel or titanium? I don't understand if the old hubs are dimensionally compatible with newer parts. Also are 130mm conversion end caps available? Yes, I have a great old disk gravel frame with 130mm rear dropouts.

@dtswiss
@dtswiss 6 жыл бұрын
Hi SuperJackdaripper, thank you for the question. There were some changes in the 340 hubs over time. The earliest 340's were similar to Hugi hubs with steel internal axles (non-thru axle compatible) and 6000 series bearings. Later 340's were a bit more similar to the current 350's with thru-bolt and thru-axle capability and 6902 bearings. Both 340 and 350 hubs use the star-ratchet internals. No, all hub Producers are using their own Systems. You can compare this with a car, you cannot use the wheel bearings of a Ford on a Nissan or use the brake pads of an ATE Brake on a Brembo. If it Comes to your hubs I would suggest to contact the Producer of the wheels ( Specialized ) and ask them which hubs they used in your Bike. Friso "DT Swiss".

Hey, Following problem on my 350. When I haven´t my hub in the frame, it has a slit between the hub itself and freehub. When I try to put pressure on it, it looks like the springs don´t work and the complete freehub moves up and downwards. It´s a relatively new hub. Just 3 Months...oh the springs, I tried to make them a bit longer with stretching, to make it louder. Now I have the problem and can´t ride anymore. Any Advice? Cheers

I'm currently riding a yeti sb135 with dt swiss m1900 29s. This bike is not near as playful as my sb5 with 27.5 was. I heard lighter wheels really liven the bike up but have no clue about these components. Any recommendations (from anyone) would be appreciated. Cost is not much of an issue but what would be the best bang for the buck upgrade?
@dtswiss
@dtswiss 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Justin, this is for sure a wide topic. In general any wheel of a higher level will be lighter but the differences between the wheels go much further than just the weight. If you want to keep the rotating mass low carbon rims are the lightest. Best value for the buck would be our top of the range alloy wheel XM 1501 Spline ONE. On top of that you can also influence your weight and performance by the right selection of rim width and general usage indicated by the letters at the beginning. X for XC, M for All Mountain, E for Enduro. Kind regards, José, DT Swiss

@dtswiss 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, thank you for the question. It is not possible to convert the 3-pawl hub to star-ratchet. Even though many of the parts are interchangeable, the hub seals are very different between the 3-pawl and star ratchet hubs. On the 3-pawls, the seal is part of the freehub, but on star ratchet hubs, it’s pressed into a special machined groove in the hub shell. So it’s not possible to get the hub sealed off correctly if you attempt the conversion, and dirt intrusion will quickly mess up the star ratchets. Andrew, DT Swiss USA

I have a Giant PXCR1 27.5 wheelset which using the ratchet system hub similar to the DT350 hub. I know this because I also have another set of wheelset which using the DT350 hub. The problem with the hub is the ratchet will slip (disengaged) when I pedal hard but ONLY happen when I shift to the SMALLEST COG (11 tooth on a 11 speed cassette). But for other cogs the pedalling seems to be smooth and I never experienced the ratchet disengagement. At first I thought it was caused by the star ratchet malfunction so I swap it with the star ratchet from another hub (I did service and clean the hub before swapping them). But the problem that I mention earlier still happens. What could be the problem that I am facing right now? Please do help me. Thank you.
@dtswiss
@dtswiss 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Moris, I see two possible reasons A) your drive train is used to the point the chain slips over the teeth of the sprocket. This happens after a lot of km especially on e-mtb that are only used on road and mostly in the 10/11 teeth sprocket and with the small number of teeth they are quickly worn. B) If the smallest sprocket is not properly engaged when tightening the cassette it rarely happens that it starts turning. This would be visible on the freehub body when the last mm of the splines on the freehub body are kind of cut off. As you noticed it does not occur on other sprockets therefor the cause is not in the freehub system. Best regards, José, DT Swiss

We can always verify if the front hub is convertible by referencing the serial number. It's also possible to remove an endcap off the hub, and measure the outer diameter of the hub's internal axle. If the hub internal axle measures 15mm OD, then it is safe to say the hub is NOT convertible. Regards, Andrew - DT Swiss USA.

Did you mean to say that if the internal axle is NOT 15mm then it cannot be converted?
@dtswiss
@dtswiss 6 жыл бұрын
No, an axle OD of 15mm indicates the 240s front hub is not convertible. Newer (convertible) 240s front hubs with snap-in endcaps have an internal hub axle OD of 17mm or 18mm. Regards, Andrew - DT Swiss USA

Is the 370 compactible with 2 x 10 drivetrains or it;s only for 11speed and higher? can I convert a 370 to a rachet freehub?
@dtswiss
@dtswiss 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kay, it depends on witch exact hub type you have. Most of them are convertible to 11 speed. If you send me the production code of your hub I can tell you if your hub is convertible. You can't convert a 370 to the ratchet version since the hole parts are different. Kind regards, Christian, DT Swiss

@@dtswiss You missed the question. I asked. if the 370 is compactible with a 10speed drivetrain. Will my 10 speed cassette work with the 370? Secondly, I have seen folks convert 370 to a rachet hub. You tech guys can't be this naive. The video is floating online. You buy the kit and swap the freehub body(the part you put cassettes on) with that of a 240 or 350, swap the internals with the new kit set and huala!! just type it on youtube and tell me you didn't find the video.

Hi there As the Shimano type Freewheel body didn't change from 8-11 speed, for sure our Pawl hubs are compatible with 10 speed. Regarding the conversion from Pawl to Ratchet system you, like many request before, will get the same answer. This conversion is not forseen in the developpment process of our hubs. So from our side the answer is clearly NO, there is no conversion. Best regards Friso, DT SWISS

I think DT Swiss should say it’s technically feasible but not recommended... many people have done it. The reason it isn’t worth it (IMO) is because by the time you buy both necessary drive ring tools, shim, drive ring, ratchet kit, sleeve, freewheel body, and seal, you could have just bought an ER1600DB Spline rear wheel which has the 350 hub and better, lighter hoops.

The ER series wheels come with hubs that are black and silver but are otherwise 350 hubs inside. Does that count?
@dtswiss
@dtswiss 4 жыл бұрын
Hi David If it comes to our system wheels, we are not using standard hubs. At least the hubshell, like the black/silver one in the ER1600, is specifically made for the needs of the application field. To identify, service and/or rebuild the hubs you can trust our information about the productinformation on the Website. SO yes the ER1600 is using a 350 hub. Check out our all new Product Identification Tool: www.dtswiss.com/en/support/product-support If it comes to specific OEM ( Original Equippment Manufacturer ) wheels you would get details from our service centers: www.dtswiss.com/en/support/service-center Stay healthy, Friso "DT Swiss".

What’s the difference between 180, 240 and 350 ?
@dtswiss
@dtswiss 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there and thank you for your question. Honestly speaking, mostly all parts are different in-between the three hub models. Even the hubshell is slightly different. In short words: - 350 hub = the solid and worth the money entry in the DT Swiss ratchet technology - 240EXP = the classic, renewed with the EXP Technology, best overall performance - 180EXP = the one for the racers, searching for every single watt and gramm, without loosing durability Stay healthy, Friso "DT Swiss".

Ha ha. For pawl system what is shown is maybe valid for brand new hub. For hub that made few 1000 km hammer is mandatory to do disassembly. To remove threadring and get spare parts it is nightmare. Shimano is better.

Hi Ales, thank you for the comment. With the correct tools, DT Swiss hubs are among the simplest hubs to service and rebuild. We recommend using the appropriate bearing driver tools during complete disassembly, which definitely helps even when working with high-mileage hubs. Thank you again for your comment and have a nice day. Kind Regards, Andrew - DT Swiss USA.

Hi DT Swiss AG, appreciate your feedback. To remove ring nut you need special tool which cost 40 EUR. Ring nut cost 10EUR?!. I ask many bicycles services in Ljubljana, actually nobody hav that kind of tool. Now they are trying to find new ring and hub for more than 10 days. I need my bicycle ...

After almost two months I finally get new ring nut an complete hub. So happy ... I install them by follow the instruction and do my first ride. It was just a few meters then I notice that the cassette is rolling even I am not pedaling during the ride. Not possible to ride as the chain roll over the front chainring. So pist off.. Any Idea why this is happening?
@dtswiss
@dtswiss 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ales, thank you for the question. There are several reasons that could cause the freehub to "bind", the most common of which is the hub shell seal not being fully seated or upside down. Also, the ring nut may have been re-installed upside down. The groove on the ring nut should face toward the drive-side hub bearing. For further troubleshooting help, please feel free to email info.us@dtswiss.com . Kind Regards, Andrew - DT Swiss USA

Why don’t you just put the name on it!
@dtswiss
@dtswiss 9 ай бұрын
Hi and thank you for your message. As you can already see in the Video, there is a name on the product if it comes to ASM products. As you can find our hubs often in OEM products or mounted in system wheels, the name of the hub is not visible all the time. Maybe it is just the decal missing, which makes it as well hard to identify. Therefore we created a while ago this video to make it easier for anyone. Enjoy riding your Bicycle, Friso “DT Swiss”.
