In this video, I discuss what I believe are the qualifications of a good video game. GTA, Red Dead Redemption, Minecraft, Skyrim all of these are titles known and praised for their excellent gameplay, but why are they so good and what makes games like, Saints Row 2022 bad?

As an aspiring game dev, when it comes to stuff being rushed out, there are three mindsets, one is the give me your money corporate mindset, one is the this is my first, second, third, etc game, and I need to get my name/my games name out there, and the last one is when the devs think they got it to work, and didn't test it thoroughly enough.

I feel like the testing misunderstanding one is really uncommon, I don't think that a lot of game companies especially massive ones simply just don't see the problem until after release. To be fair though I am not a game developer and I'm sure you'd know more about this than me lol

@@CrackedJust1n Well say your Bethesda making Skyrim then sure, they won't be able to test every possible combo of weapons, magic, and armor, but for a lot of other games where it is possible and there are still bugs, it's pry just a lack of testing, but I'm only about to release my first game, so in a few years I might thing differently, and have a better idea of why this is.

I find Ubisoft games interesting in that by design, they should theoretically be “good” games. They follow conventional game design to a fault, both the good and the bad, but they just aren’t “good” games in the sense of the player having an enjoyable experience when playing them. I can play a Ubisoft game while listening to KZbin videos in the background and enjoy my time playing them, but if I were to remove background factors, the games themselves aren’t that good.

Ubisoft games are a 10/10 on the mediocre scale, they do everything in their power to reach that solid 7/10 mark so they can't get hate but will still get tons of sales

@@CrackedJust1nbut they do get hatw and get tons of misrepresentation within the gaming industry to an extent obviously since Ubisoft isn't all sunshine and rainbows with how the higher ups take a toll/influence over those who develop the games etc. but what OP pointed isn't 100% true

@@CrackedJust1nplus a 7/10 is still a good game... i dont understand how OP can think that Ubisoft games as a whole are not good games because the player doesn't have an enjoyable experience playing them... that makes zero sense at all, you can argue with that same logic with Rockstar games as a whole especially with the complaints that RDR2 gets for its game, which includes the mission designs and design bits that are in the combat aspect, to which the combat is still very good as there's incentives to go around in close quarters during shootouts etc. & etc.

Video games are in my opinion an overlooked form of art that some people simply can't appreciate, they're the second best media in telling a story in my opinion

The devs announcing their games years before it’s release is so annoying. I still remember ATLUS constantly delaying persona 5 and I was getting sick of it 🤦‍♂️

It's interesting how the longer it's been out the more it's fading from a revolutionary standard to a classic. I love to see that RDR2 to this day still gets tons of love from it's players

7:01 for me, replay-ability wether it’s different endings, difficulties, or just being such a captivating game i want to play it over and over. detail is a big part of that. story as well but not as much. the gameplay feeling is definitely the biggest part; rdr2 would be perfect if it was slightly less clunky. ik it’s mostly for realism but it gets annoying sometimes

100%, I can agree that Red Dead does have a clunky problem. For example sometimes to pick things you have to walk around it multiple times until the game gives you the prompt "pick up" or "examine" because you were at a bad angle.

Agreed, one of the best singleplayer experiences I've ever dabbled in. Played a sidearm-hacker class and it was super enjoyable

Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt these are games that are and will always be my favorites. I'm not one to buy new games anymore as i feel that newer games just dont live up to the hype anymore.

I agree with you about the developers announcing a game when it is in early development because first of all why should you want to announce a game when it was in development for like 2 days and already made a trailer for it. I get it if your trying to build hype but at least make and finish the game first.

100%, announcing a game early just adds pressure to the developers to get it out on time It's honestly a miracle that Cyberpunk was saved

I hate when ppl say RDR2 gameplay is borin and bad when its literally the SAME controls as GTA 😂 if you are above the age of 14 and have a attention span of an actual adult you’ll enjoy RDR2 and if you love western movies issa game for you👍🏾

I agree with this opinion all the way, Red Dead is not at all a boring video game, it executes it's purpose as intended, it's all a matter of whether the player enjoys the slow paced style of it or not
