RDR2 is TOO LONG, but that's a good thing...

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a very long story with a very controversial 5th Chapter, many players consider the game repetitive and boring nearing the end of Chapter 6 so in this video I'll be explaining why that is, and why the story benefits from the pacing.
For those who saw the community post about taking a while before uploading a new video, I ended up grinding all day and night and got this one out so here it is!

Maybe you're right and I'd agree, but I think it might've been that way more so due to whatever circumstances pushed to cut it down in development. Rather than deciding to make it that way. Given how much we know was taken out. I think the original vision would've been immersive in its own way, as we get to see the gang degrade and fight to survive for a whole chapter in this island. Perhaps developments like Javier's turn would've been shown off and felt more gradual than the flip-switch we get in the final game.

@themadtitan7603 I know that around the later years crunch got serious in the studios so guarmas strange appearance could have absolutely been due to time problems like you said, I also wish Javiers character had a more visible turn into Dutch's side over Arthur's
@themadtitan7603
@themadtitan7603 2 ай бұрын
@@CrackedJust1n Sorry for the late reply but yeah. Given a lot of the cut content found that sheds light on the original vision, it might've not even been MAINLY time constraints (tho possible) but one of the sudden, big rewrites the writing team would do often without the rest of the dev team being notified, leading to a lot of material being quickly cut. We heard about this in interviews in the final days leading up to release.

one of the ways to telling if a gaming video is good is if it makes the viewer want to play the game. Modest Pelican did that for me with Mafia 1 and 2. and you have done that for me with RDR2 even though I've already beaten the game like 4 or 5 times. Keep up the great work man I am truly impressed by the quality of all your videos. I watch ever single one as soon as i get the notification.

Its crazy Guarma was my favorite part, having my expectations broken with a whole new environment fill with story and immersion, the people that dislike it usually are not into story driven games or just have the attention span broken and don't know how to appreciate all the little things that come to you during that whole arc.

I appreciate RDR2 for being both experimental and long because it allows the game to really develop its strongest aspects more. I actually disagree with Guarma being a standout part of the game as I grew sentimental with the cowboy simulation aspect of the game to where when we leave to Guarma, I was immediately ready to go back to the familiar tranquility of New Hanover, Saint Dennis etc Great analysis of chapter 6 at the end, the repetition added to the longing feeling of playing as Arthur when we move on to John at the epilogue and post game

Honestly, for me, i love Guarma because im Jamaican, in other words, im from the Caribbean...what you see in Guarma is Slavery, and you take part in a slave revolt. Essentially, that part of the game is portraying my history, and I'm on the right side...so it feels rewarding, and exhilarating. But i could understand why others wouldn't have that feeling. Especially if you aren't from the Caribbean, or black

I like this take for me I can’t ever say a game is too long since I spent 200 hours on both elden ring and ac Valhalla and still haven’t finished the game (FYI completed ER now 4 times) but I do get what you mean, to me red dead’s story could’ve different in so many occasions Lenny’s death could’ve been a grapple scene where you save Kenny or Arthur goes in first in that rooftop and dead eye scene pops up same for Hosea maybe you throw tnt and Hosea barely slips out alive things like that but that didn’t happen maybe you send Sadie to black water to retrieve the money but I think the reason they didn’t do that was because then you’d have to make Sadie a playable character which I always wondered why it’s only Arthur I feel like red dead’s side quests are too sparse and just all over the place and some don’t even trigger even if you’ve been to that location like 20 times it’s very annoying If you could switch between maybe Arthur, Sadie, and maybe even Micah or John we could have a lot more content in a map literally double the size of rdr1 but that’s just me

I kinda have the complete opposite opinion. Chap 4, 5, 6 are the parts I look forward to the most on new playthroughs cuz it's where the most interesting stuff happens. I do however, still think RDR2 drags on for too long, but I feel that it drags on early on in the game, around early chapter 3. On my first playthrough, I was very bored around chap 3 and quit. Then I retried the game and have around 600h roughly on the game and it's prob my favorite game I think. But chap 3 is rly what I look forward to the least when I replay

I honestly think that section with Dutch killing the old crone is pretty contrived with how it is written all for the sake of Dutch going into a mental spiral for who he really was but that's just it... Arthur is insanely hypocritical for how he words his tone against Dutch, yes the thought of Dutch being like this in front of Arthur is something that Arthur hasn't seen of Dutch doing but the game tries to make it seem more detrimental than it had to be since the lady wasn't to be trusted at all especially since she pulled a knife on Dutch, there's barely any difference to what Dutch did there compared to what Arthur is capable of that can point out Arthur's unjust but conflicted hypocrisy against Dutch since in the lore of RDR2, Arthur projects the way his biological Father was onto Dutch but didn't want to acknowledge it deep down...
@godzillazfriction
@godzillazfriction 2 ай бұрын
plus Arthur's 'Redemption' isn't as one-noted as (if you're reading this) you think it is, all because of 'change'... change isn't something that you can determine in its actuality in any life form, it's a man-made concept that was made to generalise the human existence, it's supposed to represent a catalyst that is contradictory which ties into the 'Redemption' aspect in both the games' title, they're not supposed to be taken in its literal form because of what Dutch said at the end of his demise "We can't always fight nature, John. We can't fight change. We can't fight gravity. We can't fight nothing. My whole life, all I ever did was fight. Then give up, Dutch. But I can't give up, neither. I can't fight my own nature. That's the paradox, John. You see?" - that's the paradox of both the Red Dead 'Redemption' games although Rockstar made it extremely convoluted on that idea with how they prioritised the writing of their Honor system in regards to RDR2 compared to RDR1...

Same thing from start to end.....not a single time I felt like.. Yeah I'm a badass (maybe little in the chapter where we go to save john's son) ..... But gow was as good as rdr2 in graphics & story... But the gameplay made it far better..... (Remember the fight where u have to defeat some 3 giant monsters? That that was epic.... Later on the fight where world changed few times & all previous bosses were coming in quite big numbers?) For side quest rdr2 is probably the best (along with witcher 3)
