Thank you for showing what a mite case actually looks like! It is critical to diagnose what your bird has first before treating her.

I really LOVE your style. I can tell that your animals are dear to you, and that you are confident in what you are doing. I used your formula on my girls (Clementine and Henne) for scaly leg mites after using Swarfega for a week. Everything is healing up just fine! Question I think Henne may have some mites of lice on her head. I dont want to give her too much Ivermectin. Should I wait to use the "behind the neck or under wing" formula until I finish with her scaly leg mites? Your are really a dear person and very appealing and cute in your very authentic presentation. Great Job

Injection Ivermectin fed orally @ 10mg/mL with dosage of 200μg/kg ,= 1 drop/2.5kg , 2drops/5kg. To medicate smaller animals accurately you'll need to mix 10% Ivermectin to 90% saline solution(saline does not need to be for injection unless you are injecting)then administer 1 drop/250 grams , 2 drops / 500 grams. I've been using a mixture of water and dawn dish soap and neem oil - in a spray bottle - for poultry lice on my hen. The dawn dish soap kills the lice instantly and theoretically, the neem oil will break the life cycle of the lice (by starving them to death). I've also used DE a few times (and it does help). I change my hen's bedding every few days (using the same mixture of dawn dish soap and water with added neem oil) I spray her coop before adding new bedding.... I've just been spraying her vent area and under her wings and behind her head and on her chest (then I keep her indoors until she's dry) - I've done this 3 times so far, and so far so good... It's too cold to give her a bath, so I am seeing if this will hold her over until Spring - when it starts warming up. The dish soap is light on the soap and it doesn't appear to be irritating her skin (since I am not rinsing it). My question is - Is there a withdrawal period (for the eggs) after using Ivermectin? She's a Spring Chicken and she's just starting to lay - really good eggs...
@TheNamelessHomestead

Sounds like you all have been through a lot! Ivermectin should really help you all that work sounds rough for little result. With the ivermectin, I personally am comfy with eating the eggs but that is based on my personal research and I advocate everyone do their own research and go off of what they are comfortable with. Others who do withdrawals will wait until 2 weeks after the final treatment.

Cynthia, I have a couple of questions about using the Ivermectin cattle pour-on on chickens. If your chickens have a problem on their heads/neck AND the vent area, where do you apply the 2 drops? And I’m wondering if you have to dispose of the eggs after the treatment and if so for how long? Thank you for your video on this issue. It was an answer to my prayers because I have tried so many different remedies and nothing seems to help my poor hens. I’m ready to give the Ivermectin a try. I hope you can answer these questions for me. Thank you!

Like your video. Lol with the “crew” crossing boundary lines. Super cute. So question is how did it do they get them and how to prevent again? Not sure if my moms flock has all over mites or just the leg (scaly ) mites. Also noticed that the two that I saw (roosters) also seem to have some eye problems. They will rub them and shake their head every once in a while and the eye itself seems a little off can’t put my finger on it maybe it’s the color? Or structure not sure. One more question... do you know if rabbits can get it if near by? And one more (sorry) can you still eat their eggs when you put those droplets on them ?Thank you for making this video

Mites and lice live natively in the environment and its often carried in by wild birds. there isn't a ton you can do to prevent them but you can help a bit by keeping feeders inaccessible to wild birds (google a treadle feeder and thank me later!), and general husbandry tasks like keeping their living spaces as clean as possible. handle your birds often and keep an eye out so that you can notice the first signs of them. these parasites are species specific so you dont need to worry about other animals getting them other than other species of birds like turkeys or ducks if you have them. as for the eggs that is one of those things everyone has to decide for themselves because the medication is technically "off label" there is no recommended withdrawals. it is generally accepted to wait until 2 weeks out from the last dosage of the medication. i personally dont use a withdrawal time because i feel comfortable with this medication and what i know about it but if i was selling eggs i would absolutely wait 2 weeks+. eye problems can be so tricky its very hard to say without seeing it first hand but i would hook up with some groups and reach out with photos/videos we have some accounts and groups of our own if you are interested in them they are listed in the description box of the video. i am no vet but i am happy to help if i can ❤

This doesn't sound right, in my case! My chickens got Northern mites once before at the beginning of Covid-19. This afternoon I realized they're back. It's like having fleas, poison ivy and lice all at once. It's a nightmare that takes a long time to fully get rid of! I read that they can send pheromones to each other. This is absolutely true. They choose a person and it became very apparent that I was infested with them. They bite you every place imaginable and nothing relieves it. Others in our fam who go in the run, get a few on them and get maybe one bite. They crawl on your phone, and have so a few times as I write this message. They're very difficult to kill. I take tape to get them off of me. They're so tiny it's difficult to get a clear picture of them w a cell-phone. Today I noticed my gorgeous Buff Orpington Roo was missing it's sickle feathers. They were there this AM, now they're GONE! I went to inspect and mites immediately began climbing on me. And a little bit of black was on one side of his comb. The hens don't show signs yet. I'm a Momma bear at this moment.... I had to use several methods to get rid of them last time. This includes alcohol. Bleach, Permethrin 10, Diatomaceous Earth, Flea Medication, and sulfer (which smells just lovely). And of course, I've had to move the chickens from the coop and run and empty everything. And because they are on me, I have to put Diatomaceous Earth on me, flea meds, spray our house (just in case) wash sheets every day and spray flea meds all over my and put stuff on wood. They can hang out in wood for a long time without feasting on something. Anyway, I'm happy to try this as well. I even changed the kind of bedding to cedar bedding. I think I'm gonna have PTSD from this! ;) Thanks.

They can crawl on you just as any bug can when handled but you can't "catch" lice or mites from your birds. They are species-specific parasites so you can breathe easy that they can not live on you. They can be a nightmare to get rid of though once a strong infestation happens in a coop
@michellemooresings
@michellemooresings 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheNamelessHomestead yes, but there are certain mites that send pheromones to each other and trust me,, you (too) can be one of their chosen ones! They get on you, your bedding, but hang out in your furniture. They can go 7 months without living on the host.. Its the worst nightmare imaginable. There are different kinds of mites.

This article may help you. Can they bite us? Yes. Be transported on us? Yes. But they can not live without their needed diet of bird blood. The messaging here that I am trying to convey is that we don't need to fear them. Many people fear having chickens because they worry that poultry lice are the same as the headlice human can get or that they as humans can contract chicken mites as a personal infestation. I hope that helps to clarify www.healthline.com/health/bird-mites#takeaway
@paulbee2447
@paulbee2447 Жыл бұрын
@@TheNamelessHomestead certain bird mites can live for years on human skin using human blood, the mites prefer birds but human blood is enough to ensure survival, mites takes a few weeks of living continuously on the human skin to create burrows, they are very difficult to wash off using soap and water but can be repelled by essential oils like tea tree oil, rosemary, mint, etc. but if no birds are around, they will stick to human skin like superglue, I speak from years of suffering, so please beware. Once they form burrows then getting rid of them is harder than treating scabies.
