My guess is that 2 containers were used to make the ice cube. There is a hand sized depression frozen into the top of the block of ice. The top of the frozen block then becomes the botton, leaving a rim of ice around the edges to hide your hand. You just sit the block of ice onto your hand, the thin section allows you to see the hand through the other side.
