For a midweek, lowkey drop I decided to watch IDIOCRACY (2006) for the FIRST TIME and see how quickly I could turn this bad boy around! This was...uh dumb as all hell. In the words of Wicked the Musical, I can't say that I'm changed for the better, but I have been changed for good...

@@natsinthebelfry Oof! Let's not take the movie or ourselves too seriously. I think this movie is very funny, but I imagine it could be seen as elitist propaganda or punching down from certain points of view. Even Mr. and Ms. "Average" are depicted as a shirker and a prostitute, respectively. While it might give us a few things to think about, I don't see this movie as a source of prophetic wisdom.

@sthenx0r
@sthenx0r Жыл бұрын
@@dupersuper1938 As a former boy in a small town, Beavis and Butthead was hilarious to me. In retrospect, it was an amazing depiction of a bored, boyhood friendship that is incredibly stupid and destructive, but also somehow intimate in an unspoken way. Remember B&B came out before the internet was widespread, so most other media was controlled and sanitized. Compare Beavis and Butthead to (for example) Michael J. Fox in Family Ties or Kirk Cameron in Growing Pains. B&B might have been dumb but it was 100% more reflective of actual day to day living for kids that didn't live in a TV mansion with caring and present parents. Blowing stuff up, doing stupid things, hurting each other and more than anything sitting around reacting to stuff. Most of the show was them watching and reacting to videos, so that was also very "meta" before meta was a thing. I certainly understand why some (or most) people don't appreciate the show or prefer King of the Hill (which was also very perceptive with much more normal storytelling).

@@dupersuper1938 while I understand where you’re coming from, there was a great deal of satire woven into the fabric of Beavis and Butthead. But if you just couldn’t take the two of them pretty much being stupid a-holes commenting on music videos, you wouldn’t enjoy it. However, the same bones of Judge’s worldview that you enjoy in his other works are fully present in Beavis and Butthead.

One of my favorite movies. Mike Judge is a comic genius. He didn’t just do some Beavis & Butthead and King of the Hill, he created them

Upon repeated viewings you will notice how much prophecy this movie had...... When this movie first came out nobody knew what Crocs were and in the film everybody is wearing them.

The more politically aware you are, the funnier it is because you can see it in our reality now. It's also kind of scary for the same reason.

Yeah, this movie basically became indistinguishable from real life, almost overnight once Trump was elected.

It wasn't popular when it came out because it wasn't widely released...it only got distributed in 7 cities and 130 theaters (normal is at least 600). Rumor is it got the smallest release legally possible because the brands were not happy with how they ended up being used in the film lol.

Thanks, Shanelle! My ex-husband (still a friend) and I saw this in the cinema back in the day. We appreciated it... certainly not Earth-shattering, but fun if one is in a certain mood. The theme is solid, though. 🧠 #ShanelleRiccio #MikeJudge #Idiocracy

19:17 Beef Supreme is played by Andrew Wilson (AKA the lesser known Wilson Brother) 20:34 "And what the F is this?", well that is a giant purple female pleasure aid. As for Crocs, the costume designer literally choose them cause they were a new product that they thought no one would ever wear. 26:29 No even CGI, it is mostly old school matte painting.

woahhh on the matte painting !! Looked super CGI'd but the budget was still tight, I was out of my element on this guess for sure

Well Jennifer Connelly was in a movie where she gets stuck in a Target over night( Career Opportunities- 1991). I've not had Carl's Jr in years, I sure do crave a double western bacon Cheeseburger or Superstar with cheese right about now...haha. Your reaction when they showed the "time masheen" was classic. I'll see you in the next reaction and your live at the end of the month. Curious to see how many DVD players you get...haha. Thanks, Shanelle!

Who said this was a low budget flop? lol, I saw this in a packed theater, at school people were talking like Macho Camacho for like 2 years. It's like Python levels of quotable. I guess the studio itself didnt like what Judge was saying, that's all. Judge cashed in a lot of good will to put this message out there. And good on him for it.

We call that anecdotal evidence, which isn't good for much when you have real figures. The movie's budget was 2.4 million and it only grossed 495k while in theaters, so roughly only made back 20% of the budget. It's literally the definition of a flop.

The day you finally watch “Employee of the Month” is going to be a really really good day for me. I am surprised more people don’t suggest it to you. If you need incentive in this reaction you mention how cool a movie set in a Costco would be, how bout a comedy with actors you already love. I hope it comes across your board soon ❣️

Fun Facts: Mike Jude's earliest work (at least, the first place I ever saw it) was on an MTV show called Liquid Television. It includes the first appearances of Beavis and Butthead, and a sad little cartoon guy who ended up being a character in Office Space.

This movie tested so badly, it was pulled 2 or 3 weeks before theatrical release and went straight to DVD, where it became the cult hit it is today.
