Do you actually need to stop for the red light when cycling straight-on through a T-junction when the bottom of the T is to your right, since you're not intercepting the path of traffic?

yep. the law states here that you must stop on a red light or arrow that relates to your direction of travel. we have not caught up with other countries that do things like allow bike to turn (in our case) left if no other traffic is around etc. Our only exception is if the lights cycle twice and never give you a green, you can then treat it as an uncontrolled intersection and move if safe.
