you show a lot of ignorance when living in a city of millions, bike lanes are for everyone either on foot, jogging, walking a dog or walking to school......You don't see me making a video when I see cyclist on the road with cars (btw stupidest idea ever) but hey I am respectful despite my views and treat others how i would wanna be treated.
@onecyclistinlisbon

Do you like order? In Portugal bicycles can be fined if they use the sidewalk and what I do....I cycle where it's legal such as bike lanes and on the road. Pedestrians are fined if they walk on a bike lane. I like order and if all were able to follow the rules this video wasn't even made because there weren't reasons.
@5tyxx
@5tyxx 7 жыл бұрын
Straight forward question how can they fine you while riding a bike on the sidewalk..... since bikes have no need for licensing therefore you do not need to carry I.D just ride away...unless you have a criminal record and your prints are on file they have no way to tell who you are to issue a ticket....same with pedestrians.
@onecyclistinlisbon
@onecyclistinlisbon 7 жыл бұрын
Again, you are not Portuguese and you do not know our rules. I do have to carry an ID when I cycle and they don't need licensing. If they catch me without one I have to go the police station, especially if I get involved in an accident. Read more about my country before making all those assumptions.
@5tyxx

Dont need to be portuguese to know human behavior plain and simple...... There are ignorant cyclist who ride where they want just as there are ignorant pedestrians who walk and jog where they want......no amount of you video taping and recording this will ever stop them....no laws will stop them......but if you just learn to live life and not worry what others are doing your life will be much better. they will be caught and they will face the fines one day for their behavior....relax ride your bike take in the scenery life will be much better

If I'm in my bike and there are people chilling in the bike lane, I honk. I'm late for work and have no time for that. If I'm chilling, walking down the streets hand in hand with my wife, I do it on the side walk, cause other people don't have to have time for me and my day off. Great video, and I appreciate that you acknowledge the times when pedestrians are forced into your lane. I also don't think you saying you feel safer between cars is crazy. Cars have rules they are set to follow, therefore it is much more predictable in terms of what they will do. Granted there's always the few. While with peds, if you ring the bell often times they will jump, and rush to some side without even knowing where you're at, potentially causing a crash. Too often they move into your assumed path (I try my best to stick to the left when overtaking) forcing you to slow down, and /or veer into traffic. With time people will hopefully get more accustomed to the unspoken rules of bike paths, and cycling itself.

When people walk on the bicycle path, it's important to be assertive as a cyclist. They are the ones that are in the wrong place, you have every right to be there. Don't slow down, overtake them, even if you risk a collision in doing so. If you hit them, they're the ones that are in the wrong. While doing so, it's important to ring your bell as much as possible and insult them as hard as you can. Don't worry about what they might think of you, they're idiots and you'll never see them again. If all cyclists act like this, it'll become dangerous to walk on the bicycle paths and people will think twice before doing so. Sincerely, a Dutch cyclist with experience in dealing with tourists.

It's absolutely the same in Belgrade. Some people are unaware of their surroundings (still not an excuse), but some just don't give a shit...even after you pass them or ring the bell, they stay on the bike path. It also happens the other way around, when you have a bike path and a sidewalk next to each other, there will ALWAYS be a pedestrian on the bike path and a cyclist on the sidewalk.

Young mountain biker here, I was once out goofing off on my hard tail on a old trail (this trail was fairly wide and not really used by bikers anymore) and a old man probs 70s no joke started shouting at me because “people walk on these paths and I should not be going so fast or even on a bike for that matter” now I get not many bikers use the trail anymore but it’s still a mountain bike trail yknow and I am always very careful because I also know people do like walking on that trail but most people are respectful and move to the side (I also brake quite a bit) but this old man not only watched me go down the full descent and not move an inch but he also watched as I struggled to brake in time to not crash (bumpy descent + hard tail = some pretty ruff braking since the rear just bounces at times) pedestrians can be so disrespectful

It'd make a lot more sense to have trams. It's been years now, but I remember someone doing the maths here before 2003 and before the diesel emissions scandal and concluding that the government should make public transport "free at point of use." No ticket office, no ticket machine, no ticket barriers, no ticket inspectors. Just get on and ride when and where you will. People would use cars less, there'd be less traffic, buses would get faster, people would get more exercise, there'd be less air pollution, both those things would make people healthier and we'd have fewer crashes and that'd add up to saving us more money than it'd cost. I don't know whether it was right then, and things have changed since, but a free metro and tram network sounds like a great idea to me.

The thing is that if youre not into cycling then you are completely almost always oblivious to cycling ethics. i wouldnt say that these people know the rules of the lane and are deliberately not obeying them or not being courteous. There just isnt as much education about bike lanes as there should be for the general public. And cyclists can always move out of the way too. Like there was more than enough room to the left of the guy listening to music and jogging. Not all cyclists are bad, but the worst ones are the ones that ride like crazy then think they are immune to traffic laws while breaking them then getting mad at drivers for not seeing them. Like they are some sort of pedestrian automobile hybrid that can have the best of both worlds at once. Knowing people that ride motorcyles, a big difference is that bikers are taught to not get into blind spots and how to read cars. Some, im not saying all cyclists, just expect everyone to see them.

digimon916 you should see some videos about cycling on the brooklyn bridge. It's insane. And most of those people live there, so they get jabbered about the bike lane everytime they walk down it. I do agree though, I see no harm if it's literally empty. We have a bike path that is kinda scenic through a park. It has the bike symbols, but it's never busy so people ride it casually. But they aren't trying to get to work, so they don't mind slowing down and moving out of the way. I see it from both sides.

How many roller blader's have you taken down? They suddenly swerve right out ijn front of you like they own both sides of the bike lanes. lean into them for your own safety! When I was a bike messenger in Toronto Canada many moons ago people would walk out in front of me to greet the street car 500 feet behind me so I yelled "No Brakes!!!" doing 25mph and they would clear a path for me in panic every time. Now I put a car horn on the bike thanks to Li-po batteries. You would absolutely love it, even trucks stop when pulling out in front of you expecting something that can cost them money when it hits! I highly recommend it, at least 130 Db to 150 Db works. Pedestrians jump out of your way, then they usually just laugh.

In our country we have very long bike lanes those connects the cities. Those are also heavily used by roller skaters. But there is some respect between them. Like the roller skater will stop "pushing" or how to call that to let other to overtake him or to let move others in opposite direction. The reason is because the roller skater needs around 3-5 meters wide road. Same for cyclist when they go in pairs, when someone goes in opposite way, they will sort in one line.

Honestly it seems like the reason this happens is because very few of the bike lanes are clearly marked as bicycle only. In the Netherlands for example, all bike lanes are coloured a distinctive red with clear markings so when someone sees red they think 'oh, this is a bike path!'. Also, I am very jealous of your bike paths. Cheers from Australia.

As I see on many of these lanes (on the seaside) the piktograms for bicycles are just not painted (regularly). They would learn it faster if it was more visible hence they could less argue when someone rings the bell at them. In my country at some resorts they built bicycle lanes from dedicated funds and later they took it as space for events as the interest of the wineries required more wine events. This is still better.

So even on the ferry when I told them very clearly DON'T WALK IN THE BIKE LANES (reminding them of Copenhagen when my dad walked into a cyclist and got shouted at by a very angry Danish man) you'd never guess what every single one of them did? MULTIPLE TIMES too might I add! I even sat them all down and told them 'if you don't stop walking in the bike lanes I reserve the god damn right to kick you right in the shin right where it hurts' and still they walked into the bike lane. And they're not hard to see either. They're RED! In the UK some of the bus lanes are red and would you walk in a bus lane? On a side note some people are saying that the cyclists should just cycle into the pedestrians. Are you mad!? Yeah a lot of them are really quite dumb (usually tourists tbh like the shitty oblivious kind) but the cyclist would get hurt as well as the pedestrian. It's a lose lose situation. There should just be PSAs and flyers to inform and educate idiots and tourists to get out of the fucking way (pardon my French).

In Dallas, their designated bike lanes are used by lime scooters and Lyft scooters. Don't know if that's better or worse than pedestrians clogging everything up.
