Today we are looking at a tool called Character Combiner, an open source project for combining multiple Miximo animations into a single project, which can then me exported as GLB/GLTF and ready to use in your game engine of choice.

Yeah that would be me. Only got the first animation and no texture in Blender... hahaha.

As useful as it is, it's also fairly easy to do using a Blender script. Which has this advantage that you can batch process the assets, instead of clicking back and forth between multiple windows.

I really love this tool---but it seems to have been neglected for years. I worry they are going to sunset this.

They told us that they would shut down mixamo rigging and animating web functionality. I didn't know that it was still working. Thanks for the info.

It is engine agnostic.

@@kishirisu1268 is it that unreal is ... better bones? more complicated, more realistic animations? I've seen stuff that looks like it's a person, had to do a double take.

This is a great tutorial thank you! i think I will use my own meshes (from the unity asset store) but is there any reason that wont work?

Nope. Generally Unity Asset Store meshes are in OBJ format. The only gotcha is you're going to want to have a T-pose of your character, which is incredibly common. So it may not work with ALL your assets with zero work required, but it should work with most.

Thanks for the heads up Mike. I can FINALLY start playing with the toys i brought from a humble bundle a few months back(for Unity), in Godot. I could use Blender to do it but the interface likes to remind me how long ive been doing this sht for.

Sadly the Mixamo auto rigger never worked for me, either it will just not import or the whole auto weights are completely messed up … adding like 15 hours extra work just to fix it.

Whenever I open mixamo it lags a lot even though chrome does not Any solutions?

How would you rate this workflow vs Godot Game tools in Blender?

It's been a while since I used Godot Game Tools to be honest, so can't really compare right now.

@@toby818 I'm glad you asked. Yes with version 3 and latest Godot game tools. But I found: - I must export a t pose manually from Mixamo as base animation with skin. - export all other animations (can be without skin) - import t pose with skin from Mixamo download - for exports it had back face rendering on in the skin for the import into blender :(. Had to turn that off - import all other animations using Godot game tools - export combined animations as gltf Now the model is correct and Godot game tools seems to work?

i been trying this with my own skin. but when i import the gltf to godot the textures appear on my character but are all grayed out. i added an WE and a light but it still doesnt show up. any help would be nice

I don't know why Mixamo lags extremely bad on Google Chrome. My pc is powerful enough but the GPU really struggles. Do you know any way to solve this?

if you have a dedicated gpu and chrome still lags then your system is using internal gpu rather than your graphics card. You can change the settings and get it working.

It does not work on Copper Cube 6. I did the entire thing, but the engine does not support GLTF, although I converted that to obj using other program, still did not work. I guess this is Unity and Godot exclusive.

obj does not support animation, try other formats

@@seanbohan7543 Weird, because my animations are obj. Does not matter really, Copper Cube is a different engine, maybe that's why it does not work.

@@NivenHedinger obj files only contains mesh data, unless you export whole animation as a list of static mesh which I don't think any game engine would support by default

@@seanbohan7543 I don't know man, I have been doing that for 5 years now, come and figure. I usually use Mixamo and it just sets up download in fbx or obj and then I open it in Copper Cube 6 as animated mesh, it works for me. But in this case it did not, because the file was different.

Mixamo never allowed us to combine animations in the app. I'm confused

You used to be able to apply multiple animations to a character. This was the case when I checked out Fuse for the first time.

@@gamefromscratch Yeah this was case back in 2016? I think you could download a single beefy FBX with all animations you wanted for a single skin.
