Hate rigging? Yeah, me too. With this free tool from Reallusion rigging is about as simple as it's possible to be. AccuRig is available for Windows (sadly only Windows) and enables you to rig characters in just seconds, completely free. Does it do it better than Mixamo? In my experiences, yes.

Character Creator 4 has a version of AccuRig (called Advanced AccuRig) built in, so this is more of a basic, freeware version of what’s included in CC4.

I have been using it over the last month or so and I find it does a better job rigging the more complicated models than mixamo does. Negatives would be, I hope their animation library continues to grow and that your purchases start to show up in the preview like you would expect.

it's also too bad that these types of tools only support humanoid characters. It would be very cool to see them support other types of creatures.

@@dankodev I know, I wish there was any type quadruped rigging and animations for sale like this. It took me like 8 hours to animate a freaking sheep walking. 😆

I have a 'lifetime' license from mixamo -pre adobe, but it is buggy as hell and seems basically abandoned. Thanks for showing this, looks like a good replacement.

This thing is awesome, I've been using it ever since the 1.1 update. It's so easy to rig custom models and import them into Unreal. When importing to Unreal, you can literally select the UE4 skeleton (even if you're in UE5) and it will work great. From there on you can apply any animations created for Unreal to your custom characters. So much potential. Only downside is the skinning doesn't always work great if your model has a lot of armor or is a little bulky.

Ok... just to avoid misunderstanding, here my translation of how I understand you comment. I can take any humanoid mesh of my own creation, without setting up any bones in blender, just having the mesh, and this tools rig it so it can be used with UE4 skeleton?

@@Chareidos correct! Export your mesh as FBX from Blender (other formats probably work too but I haven't tried it), rig it with Accurig and then export it from Accurig with the Unreal preset. Then you can import the FBX into Unreal, and in the import dialog under Skeleton, select SK_Mannequin_Skeleton and you're all set

Hey Mike, Rokoko has recently made their motion capture tool, Rokoko Video available for free. They also have a free Blender plugin. Been using Accurig for a few weeks now, certainly gives a better auto-rig than Mixamo but Mixamo has bigger library of free animations. Feel spoiled for choice with the free tiers of Cascadeur, Mixamo, Accurig. These tools have saved me lot of time and removed a lot of grunt work required for rigging 3D assets and animating them using only Blender.

I haven't tried it with Accurig yet since currently it supports Mixamo out of the box during export to FBX. They do have a Custom option in the dropdown list. In Blender or Maya import the animation and your custom rig. Then using the Rokoko plugin, choose the Rokoko skeleton as source and your custom rig as target in the retargeting section. I think as long as the bones are in the same place, it should work.

yeah been using this and its awesome!! in fact Reallusion tools in general are fantastic! CC4 and iClone 8 are not cheap but well worth it for animation and cleaning up mo cap etc

I'd get CC4 if I was actually a professional, but since I vaguely only make small gimmicky video games every half a year or so when the inspiration strikes, this just hurts to see. A pack of addons for CC4 just to make it usable is $300 or so...

If you use the "Upload to AccuRig" button, you can see your rigged model on the AccuRig site and apply animation to it. AccuRig is better at rigging models in non-standard poses as you have 3D control over the markers.

I've used this for a few of my models. It's great so far and there is even a addon for blender to rigify it.

The only limit of this program, that's unfortunately also an issue with Mixamo is that there's no options for characters with a tail. If you have a tail, or other extra limb with bones, you still need to create the extra bones yourself. I don't mind creating the animations myself, but figuring out the bones of the rig can be really tricky. Especially with weight painting.

I find that if you are using this or miximo for any type of production, you are better off just learning how to rig and skin as you will spend more time cleaning up.

The advantage of Mixamo is blender plugin which IRC sets up control shapes for further work in blender Also I think those shoulder anchor Points should have been placed further outside

I like that it accepts A pose characters. The T pose limitations of other auto riggers always bugged me.

Far away from being a Mixamo Killer. A) You can not upload the rig which you have exported for different session. (Mixamo can). B) You can not tweak bone distance on the website pose viewer (Mixamo can). C) You have to re-rig the character every time you want to get a new pose (if you have previously uploaded another character), Mixamo gladly reuses the same export. D) AccuRig can not entirely single out the difference between heel/ankles that are closer spaced in a more dead on T-Pose. It will end up affecting the neighbour foot when the other leg moves. Mixamo has this one down, it seems. E) You can not reload your settings to re-rig and upload the AccuRig Export, it always throws errors. - It needs some work... Not good for animators with custom characters. Awkward. Mixamo is a bit more straight forward and easier to work with. AccuRig has a good library, no doubt, but lacks a lot of features. Reallusion has a lot of work in front of them. It's a good start though

Why does something have to be "insert software here' killer. I dont understand. Why not just go over pros and cons of the program. Why compare?

I tried it with a low poly character and it gets a generic "Error detected while auto rig." Google returns no results, but I did find someone else on their support forums trying to rig Sir Daniel from MediEvil (a year ago), and the tech person said "Thank you for using our appication.Unfortunatlely, Due to the technique limited, the bone structure cannot be cauculated." Mixamo didn't have issues with my low poly character. I had high hopes for accuRIG, but it doesn't look like it will work for my current project.

Great looking tool as always. Expensive though with animationsand models as normal with RealIlusion. Nice if you have the cash though :) As long as their T&C are not silly for game dev use.

I remember being extremely excited for stuff like Cascadeur and so on.. Then being extremely disappointed when trying to use a custom blender model. I would have assumed they would be adapted to the most popular 3D software.. Which is not the case.. Only very specific models seem to be compatible and creating those in Blender was uncomfortable and tedious

i tried it hoping it was better than Mixamo, but my character has multiple separated meshes.. accurig cannot handle it, mixamo handled it perfectly. my character has a tight uniform made out of several parts, pants, shirt, belt, shoulder pads, etc etc. accurig can only do a good job it if the mesh is a whole mesh without open edges, because when the character bends or something like that, the different pieces separate and you can see the holes between the parts. and that is very annoying. mixamo didn't need that at all, so it was impossible to rig with Accurig

hey guys, I'm really inexperienced with blender and riggin and I'm running into some troubles, see if anyone can help me here: When I try to import the rigged FBX character I made on AccuRig using CC Blender Tools 1.6.0.4, I get the following Python Erros: ValueError: min() arg is an empty sequence (I get this one if I export directly from AccuRig and Import into Blender) or AttributeError: 'EditBone' object has no attribute 'layers' (I get this one if first upload to Actor Core and export it from there) In both cases, before this erros I also get: Character has no JSON data, using default value. Am I missing something here? Anything I should've installed?

Lately many new tools were released but are not web based and are exclusive for Windows. I think companies should create more non OS related products. Mixamo has its space for that even when after so many years haven't seen many updates..

Can't preview in accurig but it has an option to upload to your model to the actorcore site and that's where you preview animations

Art is such a monetary exploited area of expertise. Just buy this buy that...subscribe here subscribe subscribe subscribe!...endlessly. There is literally no end to the things you need just to make some art. Sometimes i wonder why i even bother. And now robots are spitting out images in seconds without having to pay for mediums? Yea... great.

Can you put multiple actions onto one armature? That’s my biggest complaint about these types of services. Always seems like a pain in the ass to put more than one animation on the armature.

The good thing about Mixamo is that it has literally THOUSANDS of animatons whereas accurig has 28 free available

Metahuman + unreal engine do an amazing job. But to find a good tutorial is virtually imposible when in comes to UE.

There are a few good Rigify tutorials out there for blender but then it is a lot of work to get it to where it will export into another program if that is what you are after. There are some free tools available that will do some of that but they have their own quirks as well.

Currently, idk, yet Reallusion does have an option in Character Creator 4 (Advanced AcuRig) that can handle more than AcuRig (it’s like AcuRig is a freeware, basic version of what’s included in Character Creator 4)

Pretty cool, but I don't het the "finally" part, Mixamo is a gift from the gods for humanoid animations. Plus, a free thing from Adobe is a miracle. Be a bit more grateful, we live in the most beautiful tech era seen by mankind

Cascadeur is completely different, with a focus on creating animation. While you can rig in Cascadeur, it really helps to have an already skinned/weighted model for it.

Why only windows?? But there is no such thing i can't run on linux ;) I really don't understand people who like free and open source software, and they run it and use the windows operating system??? This is an abnormal contradiction and an obstacle to really enjoying that software.... of course there is software that is worth every penny, but definitely windows that it's not... I don't hate Microsoft, it's one of the better companies, but you can imagine if Windows opened with its system and the NT kernel what kind of madness they would create, but they are going in a direction that definitely in the future I really don't see a reason why they would anyone used windows and even game developers

models with the arms out at a 45 degree down are more optimal for skinning and also arms that are less muscle bound and extreme like that. no one likes rigging or even optimizing meshes or even animating as its done now. all great areas for AI. when they get done with the low hanging fruit that the ai guys always seem to go for whether anyone wants it or not i hope they then go after some real game art production bottlenecks...

@@estranhokonsta Well Mixamo is a paid subscription. I pay for Adobe CC each month of which I do not use so much. So with Blender, it is free and open source.

It’s just a rigger, it includes animations, yet it’s mainly for calibration as well as walking, running, etc. so it’s not an animator. You can export them to blender once they’re rigged.

Yeah as Bobby said, it's not really for animating. You use it to create a rig. You can then export it to any animation tool (Blender, Maya, Max, Cascadeur, Unity, Unreal, etc) and finish the process there. Or of course you can use their animations, which is obviously what they'd like you to do. But you don't need to. All the same, thanks for the likes.
