If we’re using hindsight that the officers didn’t have, they out numbered him 10:1, had his back while standing three steps away. Could’ve easily gone hands on and hand cuffed him before he started reaching for anything. At the point he pulled the gun there was nothing else they could’ve done and acted correctly. Edit: Since people can’t follow a discussion, they acted within their legal powers, but if they could have, and would have, gone hands on before he pulled a weapon, it certainly would’ve prevented his suicide by cop, and more importantly the three innocent bystanders being shot up. Simple as that. For those who like to assume, I’m pro 2nd amendment, pro cop, pro learning from the past, but I’m not going to endorse close-mindedness.

Story time! I was an Uber driver in Austin for several years and once I picked up a passenger off 6th whose car had gotten shot up because he took someone's parking spot. He and his friend were both still in the car when the assailant pulled back around and blew a clip into their car from behind. Bullets hit the dashboard, radio, steering wheel, shattered all the windows, but somehow miraculously no one got hit. He's telling he this and he realizes, truly, how close he was to dying that night. I would have thought he was lying if the next guy I picked up off sixth hadn't been a bystander who recounted the story to me before I could tell him I already knew.

They had to fire - everyone except officer Chad.. who got the last round off. He flags 1 cop, shoots in between that cop and another cop, and misses high and to the left (you can see his round skip off the pavement) This incident is why training well to get hits under pressure is so crucial, and also why proper tactics are so crucial. Officer Chad almost made it a 4th person who caught a round, possibly a fellow officer 😮😮

8:22 some times, you have to choose between two horrible options in less than a second. For the people who say that they should have waited and tried to get a better angle, the issue with that is the guy would have shot an officer or two and might have even ran inside the bar and started shooting, plus all of this switched from expecting a chat to gunfight as donut said in less than a second.
@Metal_Badger11 ай бұрын
Yeah but also no. Really it depends on how well the operator receives the information involving the description of the suspect. If you know that the suspect has not just a firearm but also is wearing a ski mask…. That’s like a 1% chance that type of individual is actually going to want to talk to an authority figure. They need to have different SOP and ROE for responding to different situations. The police can’t deescalate every situation with every type of person. The world is a different place now, there are both dumb and sick individuals that are willing to fight back against the law. They should’ve done a dynamic approach using vehicles that aren’t flashing their lights. I also understand that A LOT of city police get heavily underfunded and of course undertrained compared to like County or Staties, who can actually afford to if not run their own training CONTINUOUSLY then at least take them to instructors like Mike Glover or even GBRS group.
@dreadfulfr11 ай бұрын
@@Metal_Badger the best info of the guy they really couldve gotten is "an armed man with a ski mask sitting outside a bar after getting kicked out" and there isnt really much to go off of there. depending on what type of city this is, ski masks being worn casually can be pretty common, and thats not even mentioning weather. it was a weird situation and given the guy didnt start doing something crazy *before* they got there, it wouldve been hard to say for sure if he was going to after they arrived. even if they cant deescalate every situation, thats always going to be their goal since im sure almost any officer would rather not have a gunfight in the middle of a busy street. also, with the fact that so many officers arrived, they probably didnt expect the guy to be dumb enough to start shooting since he was very obviously outmatched, and didnt even really break any laws.
@NickRgibbs11 ай бұрын
What are the cops supposed to do... roll in with bean bags and non-lethal the guy before saying hello? They seem to have combined multiple patrols to go talk to the guy because of the reports of a gun and it didn't work out. I don't live in a country where it is legal to carry guns around, but most of the time someone is hanging around a bar or something is because they just want to say "fuck you" to someone specific. We often talk to them and then after that moment they go on their way

Fun Fact: That gun law only applies if the "bar" has specific signage posted stating that it derives 51% or more of its income from the sale or service of alcohol. It's not left up to a private citizen to assume an establishment's financial details. For all you know, that "bar" could be a doctor's office or something during the daytime. Edit: I'm referring to Texas law. I assumed this would be obvious since Donut was talking about Austin, Texas but here we are. I'm not a lawyer and I don't know about the laws in other states. Fun fact: citizens do not have the right to assume or label a private business they do not own anyway. The city, state, and even the federal government reserves the right to give a label to your business. So this means that even if you are truly a dentist office, the city, state, and federal government can say it is not a dentist office, it is instead registered as a bar that serves alcohol, or it’s a grocery store, or anything else. Though this rarely happens, it is disclosed when you register your business and building on the purpose of said business and the type of transactions you can do inside the building. At any time any government body can change that transaction type.

@@fobincAustin had always had it's liberals, lots of hippies and the slogan was/is keep Austin weird. And like every city with that slogan it degraded into the worst of the liberals now taken over by progressives. I only go there when family is in the hospital since we don't have a real one out here and it's hand ready to draw my firearm the entire time I'm there. I've "accidentally" carried in hospitals there it's so bad.

@@johndecker9983 the caption said Houston but 6th street is indeed in Austin and those were APD uniforms. Plus he called it the LA of TX - clearly Austin. Houston is more often called São Paulo del Norte.

was absolutely sickening seeing all these moronic austin implants calling this shooting a "mass shooting" and calling for the police force to be abolished as if they did something wrong. People in our city are so goddamn dumb its actually nuts @@ghostish365

For real though. Former Austin resident here, born and raised in Austin since 1975. I finally got to the point where I was able to move out to some land near Bastrop a few years back and I avoid the city as much as possible now. I love it out here, Bastrop is much easier on the Constitution, in more ways than one.

Could you imagine Mr. Ballen doing a story time on a police shooting.... Like that one back in the 90s with the 2 heavily armored dudes out in L.A. Or Donut doing a scary survival story breakdown.... (with his amazing e-pen computer drawings)? 😂

They didn't have to shoot him! They could have hugged him... with nuclear arms. "Nuclear" read in GW Bush's voice.
