Yeah, the big truck (or RV, maybe?) was definitely following too close and not leaving enough space in front. (And yes, I realize that when you leave enough space, some a-hole will come along and see it as perfect for their car to merge into, at which point you proceed to open up a bit more space.)

You can see the glow of the brake lights from the start of the clip. That would be reason enough to leave more distance between vehicles, especially since the truck will take longer to slow down. Don't look at the car ahead of you, look at the cars ahead of them. You can't assume the person ahead of you is paying attention.

Based on comments in these accidents, it seems about 2/3 of people think the person backing out should have to stop. 1/3 think the person driving straight should have to stop. I used to be in the 2/3 camp. But after reading all the arguments I'm now in the 1/3 camp. When you're backing out from a parking space, you need to split your attention 3-ways. Check for traffic coming from your right, check for traffic coming from your left, and check for pedestrians crossing behind you. There's a limit to how quickly you can swivel your head to do all this, meaning that there's probably going to be a 2-3 second gap between you checking any one of these 3 directions. OTOH, if you're going straight, you're looking forward. It's trivial for you to see cars in front starting to pull back, and you will have your eyes on them 100% of your time. So it's _a lot_ easier for the person going straight to see a threat and stop, than it is for the person pulling back to see a threat and stop.

@@solandri69 I'm of the opinion that those who have the best visibility to see a potential issue and is able to avoid it should be the one to avoid it. This should be true for merging, multiway stop intersections, leaving a parking space, etc. This wouldn't work in every case though. In this case, I would put it 50/50. Both drivers had good visibility to avoid an accident and neither one even attempted to avoid a collision, even if cam vehicle technically had Right of Way.

At 7:14, I have never figured out why some people act like they are afraid to pull up to the solid white line.

In my city, I sometimes hold back a little bit when I'm turning left and there is left-turning traffic from my right. People are amazingly stupid when it comes to left turns sometimes, and I don't want a piece of their drama.

When you see a wreck and want to help always pull past the wreck 50 to 75 yards that way if you are still there if first responders show up you wont get stuck behind the emergency vehicles.

This also has the advantage of allowing approaching drivers to see that there is a wreck, instead of just wondering why a bunch of cars are pulled over. The exceptions to pulling past the wreck include not navigating through the scene if there is too much debris, or if there are burning vehicles that you need to come near, or any type of burning tanker, even if you don't have to get very near.

LEDs at full brightness tend to just be "on" but for a lot of vehicles, their DRL (daytime running lights) are using PWM (pulse width modulation) to rapidly turn the lights on and off hundreds of times a second to look dimmer then what they output at full brightness. This tends to be 100-120 hz, or times a second. Most dash cameras operate at 30, 45, or 60 frames a second, and if you were to graph out a still frame and what state it saw the LED light at, and then create a visual, you would get the effect you see a lot on these videos.

2:44 Wear your damn seat belt. The ONLY way you could have got a concussion from that type of accident at that slow a speed would be to NOT be wearing your seatbelt. Would be interesting to know about the Radar Detector laws is other states. Police have Radar Detector radars that can pick up if you are using one of these. I've a fairly new car and wouldn't want it confiscated by the cops so no way I would have one. Regarding the bus, it is the same color as my local sheriff's bus used for taking prisoners to jail, but I can see that it has windows that open. Do they allow that on prison buses? I suspect not. It might have the limousine name on it if it is owned by a company that provides limo service, but has branched out to providing a charter bus as well.

It's not that the owners are claiming they are totaled; it's the insurance companies saying that paying out the depreciated value of the vehicle is cheaper than paying for the repair. The problem is the rates that repair shops are charging, and the prices of replacement parts. Add in certain design and engineering decisions that means a tiny tear in sheet metal means half the body must be replaced, and you have a recipe for very expensive repairs.

If you place your mouse cursor on the horizon, you can see that as soon as the Mercedes crosses from the right lane into cammer's lane, the camera view dips indicating that cammer is braking.

Texas doesn't require you to turn into the left lane. I didn't find anything requiring it for Louisiana either.

@@spamlessaccount You are correct however Section 545.101 (of the Texas road laws) states "drivers should always turn into the lane that interferes least with other traffic" so this would mean that, if there are cars potentially turning right into the right-hand lane, the left turning car should turn into the left hand lane. If one drives defensively (and has common sense) they would always make a left turn into the left-most lane.

#3 How about driving the speed limit all the time and then you won’t need to spend money on a device that tells you to do exactly that? Seriously, I would go absolutely insane if I had to listen to that in my own vehicle, even for a few seconds at a time.

Typical truck driver last clip, they follow way too close, mostly because they don’t want anybody cutting in front of them.
