Mushers love and understand their dogs better than any PETA activist could ever understand any animal.

Jessie Holmes all the way!!!!! Rooting for the team all the from FORT WORTH, TEXAS! thanks to my love of documentaries and the fascination of Subsistence living, Life Below Zero introduced Jessie as a Dog Musher and here I am! Along with Mountain Men and Yukon Men which have showed me a whole other part of Human Nature I've never been in touch with and hope one day I can. I'll be a fan forever now!

ahhh is that why everyone is cheering for Jessie?! LOL, haven't seen the show much. It is a cool lifestyle, I love being out in the woods exploring, adventuring and always with dogs of course!

Dog mushing is so addicting! 20 years later I still have a small team of 9 dogs. So cool for kids to grow up in this environment! Didn't know Pete's story before, great vid.

Very nice Feature. I would add that I am a therapist and appreciated the part about the Massage therapist for the dogs, however I would point out that I know #22 musher, Kelly Maixner, who is a pediatric dentist in Wasilla, and he does his own massage for his dogs at checkpoints all along the trail, and I believe that all the mushers do all kinds of things including massage for their own dogs. As a professional myself, I know that it comes down to "when do I need a professional to enhance what I am doing?". As a farm kid myself, I know that all professionals, such as farmers and ranchers, who deal with animals are knowledgeable in many of these areas and provide basic care themselves.

Birch was just a puppy when she suffered a debilitating and painful spinal injury in a kennel owned by a former Iditarod champion. Instead of offering her veterinary care, her owner left her chained out in the open where she could only crawl through snow and ice. She was apparently afraid that someone would see her and conclude that the mushers were "too harsh on her", and left her struggling to try to get in and out of the wooden box that served as her only escape from the biting arctic wind. In just a few days, hundreds of dogs will be brought to the point of exhaustion, illness, injury and even death on the Iditarod, a race so deadly that its own official rules say dog deaths are "unavoidable risks." We are determined to make this year the last of the dangerous race

Is this race non stop? On google it said it took someone 9 days to finish
@littlemidge004 жыл бұрын
Typically 8 - 15 days. They are required to take 3 mandatory stops (one 24 stop and two 8 hour breaks)

How many more will DIE, sustain permanent lung injury, then abandoned tied on heavy chains. The cruelty is barbaric😡

Its really sad to read this comments of people disregarding the fact that every year hundred dogs die just for this anual participation. More like an anual bloodbath for our canine friends.

Disgusting display of animal abuse. Iditarod has already killed more than 150 dogs.

And here is PETA, checking in. GeorgeStJohnQuimby - my guess is that you haven't researched anything, and you don't know what you're talking about. Clearly.
