T-Mike I’ve been an L1 Master Auto tech for almost 25 years. Not only did I score a pinion gear from you, your in depth knowledge and demonstrations are a help even to an old dog like me. You helped me resurrect a 69 Evinrude 9.5. You are the man sir.

Great video bud. I've noticed on my 9.5 that when tightening the flag it turns the shaft to the butterfly, which is normal. One would think, the best way to adjust it would be while the carb is still on the motor by turning the throttle to where the roller is in the correct spot, move the flag to touch the roller, then tighten the flag. That does not work. While it looks correct, but it actually turns the butterfly a tiny bit when tightening the plastic screw on the flag. The TB ends up more open than it should be. This is ok for idle as it just idles a little higher. However the problem comes in on the top end. when running wide open the RPM will drop and kind of bog, without touching the throttle it'll work it's way back up in RPM in 10-15 seconds, run high RPM for 10-15 seconds then drop in RPM again. So it basically has a very inconsistent RPM at WOT. Backing the throttle down some makes it run smooth and the same high RPM without issue. I believe what's happening is the butterfly is a hair advanced at idle, at WOT this results in the motor basically flooding itself as the butterfly is open way too far for the spark timing. I could be off. But hat my theory anyway. LOL

Hey T-Mike, I just picked up a 1956 10HP Johnson that has been sitting for 15 years. Loving your videos, but I noticed one thing in this video is a little off. According to the book, it's not the roller that should start rolling at the mark, but the actual butterfly valve should start moving at the mark. Since there is a bit of play in the linkage, the roller will actually start rolling before the mark. It's not much, maybe 1/8" but just thought you would like to know. Thanks again for all the videos and helping teach us garage mechanics!

Quick question Tmike, what is the difference between a 10hp s was horse and a fast twin? Other than one being a Johnson and the other being an Evinrude. Thanks for the videos.
