Three years ago, we our quit our jobs, gave away our stuff, and moved into Sunshine, our 1976 VW Bus.
Ever since, we've been traveling the U.S. full time, working, playing, and doing nothing under the wide sky. Out here, we seek balance, wanting connect to our awesome and generous natural earth.

That is the most beautifully shot and inspiring video of living on the road in a van that I've seen! Thank you, wonderful souls, for making it and for sharing your experience and the wisdom that you reaped from living the way you do. I myself am planning to do something similar. Sending you my warm blessings and best wishes

Yeah, i laughed hard at that opening, she must have thought the world owed her something? And it failed to deliver... Seriously, where do some people get off. Im all for camping, vaning, in fact, i've been doing it for 40 years And my journy started in 1976 VW Kombi, just the same as this one. But the world didn't owe me anything, i just wanted to get away from most of the people in it, and make my own path :)

This video just gave me so much hope. I'm 18 and have been struggling to keep my Westy on the road for the last year. I have to continue to remind myself why I got the van in the first place, to live a life on the road after college, free from the constraints of fence lines and monthly rent. Thank you so much for posting :)

As one who has retired from the often-stressful, non-fulfilling existence of supervision and management in the manufacturing field, this looks like heaven on earth. I am at a point in my life where I want a change while I am still in good physical shape and am able to get out on my own. I've looked into both sailing and a Westy and the Westy looks to be the better and more practical choice. Your video was beautifully made and really helped to cement my decision. Good luck to you both in your future endeavors.

In November 2014, we traded our house for 1976 VW bus, we quit our jobs, give away our stuff and set out on a quest. Society had failed to offer us a good quality of life so we left to create our own. We gave up the luxury and modern civilization, and doing so - we gained the world. We pay no rent, no none address, or no debt. Everything we own fits in a bus, a few material possessions are in these wooden drawers and handle cabinets. We live out here now, where coyotes still haul in the dark of nigh. We bathed in cold water creeks that ignite our senses, electricity running through our blood. Under the patterns of natural work, we learn things. Things that civilisation could not teach us. When money is scarce we work, when we have pocketed enough cash we move on. we don’t have that much money but you know the less we have the more joyful we become, we’ve learned that experiences not possessions are what make life worth living. This life isn’t perfect, there are dark days too, days when we fear we won’t get by. Every life has it challenges but these highs and lows are for us, the ones that make us alive. Life is so short, why not be happy. Each day that breaks on the horizon offers a new opportunity to discover beauty. Its out there all you have to do is go out and live.

The society does not owe you anything. You may not like what it offers which is fine, you are not alone in it. Great philosophy in that experiences, not possessions make life worth living, just remember that your experiences of the life on the roads are in part thanks to the society that built them. Have blessed travels folks. BTW, I remember my dad having a '76, just like yours but the utility version... the sounds was unmistakable. However, if you get tired of repairing the motor consider swapping for a small Subaru motor. It is popular swap for old Beetles and rear motor vans.

I am an old guy now and did my journey back in 84, left Germany and everything really for Asia, Australia and ended up touring New Zealand for a whole year, where I eventually ended up living for 30 years, ha,ha, that was fun too. Looks like you're living life. I'm in agreement that you could have chosen a better way to say that your lives were not providing you with the fulfillment you were seeking until you set out on your quest. I think it's wonderful that two people can have a happy life together. For now it's working for them. No children, no pets, no health issues etc. There is another side sometimes to these types of stories that people don't actually put together. My wife's ex travels with his dog and cat in a van. He lives all over the country depending on the season, IE weather. He talks about how he doesn't need material things, or the pressures of employers, or the uselessness of money, or paying for healthcare insurance, etc. etc. However, he has both his parents and they have money. Enough to send him money when he needs it. Which is often. Including helping him pay his child support of his twin girls. Now I'm not saying by any means that these people have money coming from other sources, and who cares if they did, their happy and traveling together. The point I'm making is, life can be good for people who are loving their stuff and working 80 hours a week, and living in the city or suburbs. Society gives you what you allow of it. You can pay in, or stay out, it's your choice hopefully, but lets not play this whole game of it being wonderful to be "free" on the road, because there is no such animal. Car insurance has to be paid, cars break down, people can get sick and eventually do, health insurance is a necessity. Life isn't cheap, and it isn't consistent. It does cost money to live and it's certainly nice when we have that green stuff so we can live how we want. My brother left his stock broker job in NYC and now lives in Vermont as a farmer. He works his ass off to make a barely sustainable living but he loves his life. As I said, he works very very hard. It isn't a free ride. He saved some money but only enough to get him started on the farm. Just don't fool yourselves, life isn't free, and hopefully we will all have enough to live comfortably for us. Whatever that means is different to all of us. Even in the show "Little House On The Prairie" If they couldn't pay for medical care they simply died. God Bless everyone, hopefully you will all have the lives you love, but free isn't happening in this lifetime. As they say, "just saying".

I don't defend or complain about anyone's choice in life. Sometimes we have to do something for a short while and sometimes we get lucky and can do it for a lifetime. It, being whatever choice we make. The bad think is feeling trapped and not getting out of that choice, what you want/need. If you're not participating in the greater good, you might fall short and need that help, someday. If you're not self reliant enough, you might fall short and find yourself not knowing what to do, which makes you dependent on 'the system." Maybe it's good to have experience in both worlds. It can be a cruel world, no matter which you choose. It's also a beautiful world for those who are happy with their choices.

the gist of what she means about society is absolutely true, the van cams etc are governed under the utilitarian act which states that one should utilize materials found in their environment to facilitate their rite to survival and their rite to pursue of happiness. No one can argue against the fact that society is a step-parent and not a true parent. eye love this video and appreciate its gist thanks guys signed, The Spiritual Hobo
