My girlfriend and I drove down to Cabo San Lucos in Mexico on the new road in 1976 in my 1971 Adventurer van with a sunroof. We used to drive the van to trailheads, park, and then go backpacking in the Sierras.

Main issues on motors... adjust the valves every other oil change. And put lock washers on everything if you can. Adding an oil cooler will help tremendously. In cold weather use 10w30. Hot weather. Straight 40 weight. Castrol. I live in Florida and have owned Vdubs for years. Make sure your valve covers and distributed gaskets stay soft or change them. Same with oil screen. Do not overtighten anything . Hope that helps. Run sea foam through gas every now and then to keep ethanol from gumming up carb. Cheers guys and stay safe!!!

I traveled in a 1965 VW factory camper (no pop-up) for over a year back in 1970/71. It was just me and my dog Haiku so there was lots of room :-) I routinely picked up hitchhikers as well which almost got me into real trouble crossing the US/Canada border one time ! Heading over to subscribe from here :-)

From what I have seen from their channel they rely entirely on the support from their Patreon users. They offer additional videos and sneak peeks through Patreon to those who support them as an incentive and reward. They even randomly selected one of their donators to gift their kombi bus to them at the end of their journey. Check out their channel on youtube called Kombi Life, extremely entertaining and inspiring content for those who love to travel and want to live in the moment. Now let's all wait for Hasta Australia! Can't wait!!

It is a mixture of the first generation (1950-1967) and second generation (1968-1979), but it is mostly the second generation, except for the side window that are square and a swing out type side doors, as well as pre 1965 wrap around quarter windows.
