Hum, really? Who is they and you? And whose revolution is the person referring to? My interpretation is that the character is saying he's the victim of some kind of betrayal from his revolutionary comrades and is lashing out against their lack of commitment to the cause. But I don't think there's enough lyrical output to reach any conclusion. And even if I got some or everything right: what exactly is the track alluding to?
@GoblinSack5 жыл бұрын
@@filipenunes1987 mate you sound so pretentious, tone it down. But you asked for my view. I think it's about giving up. Loosing hope. Having no motivation for anything, your life is boring, you go to the same unforfilling job everyday and home to your dull life of just existing. It's the story of the every man and how sometimes you get closer to the edge, maybe death is better than living like a drone. So instead of killing himself, he does it everyday, slowly drinking and the head banging is his constant depression clouding his thoughts. Run towards the light and give in, until somone reaches out but then your stuck in the loop, over and over again. I really want to put this here so I can get it off my chest. Warning, it's gonna be rather long. You guys are a band that have both soundtracked and inspired so much of my life the last few years, in so many different ways, through the music, the lyrics, and your words. I was still in the shithole that is the Oxford outskirts when I found Brutalism and Joy. it was just after a girl who I was madly in love broke up with me. In that same span of time, I relapsed, got blacklisted from my group of close friends by several of them for pointing a lot of bullshit they'd been doing recently, a close family member had been in a motorway accident and was in intensive care for several months, though every time I thought about it, it felt like years. I had to deal with assholes at my shitty corner shop job, at the band workshops I'd go to, and at school, who thought me being a trans woman and gay was reason enough to be disrespectful, micro-aggressive, or just downright abusive, all of this happening over a current of trauma, and self hatred, that almost led to me ending it all multiple times. The only reason I didn't was my mum, my baby sister, who in her dad's absence I basically raised along with my mum, my composing and songwriting, and this band. John, you drum with the accuracy of a metronome, and with a raw energy that few can match. You also seem like a super friendly guy (as does everyone else). Adam, your a fucking monster bassist that does so much with so little, you sir, are groove personified. Your dancing in Stendhal syndrome is class as fuck too. Oh and your beard's amazing. Lee, your guitar work is some of the freshest I've seen in an age, and with an approach that is all your own. Even if the band I'm playing with isn't into the style or approach of IDLES, they'll almost always say that each individual part on its own is cool, and your parts are usually praised greatly. Your energy on stage is amazing too. Mark, similarly, your guitarwork is stellar, but one thing I think often goes overlooked is your vocals. From the harmonisation on 1049 to your howl in Two Tone, you've got a fantastic voice sir, and I hope to see more of it in the future. Joe, although I've never met you, though through your lyrics, views, and the snippets of yourself seen in interviews, I relate in a big way. Your lyrics have touched my soul deeply, enriched my thinking on certain areas of life, given me a shoulder to cry on, something to vent to, a friend to laugh with, and also to rage at the state of the world with. You lot are, from what I've seen, wonderful, beautiful, strong people, who grinded day in day out, for something you cared about, regardless of other's opinions, recompense or how many listened. That is inspiring beyond belief. I thank you all so much, not from the bottom of my heart but something much deeper than that. If it weren't for what you've done, I might not be here to write this. All is love. -Naia

All I can say is what a wonderful and well thought out expression of your feelings here. I know very little about this band; I'm thumbing through a magazine called The Red Bulletin and the popular punk icon Iggy Pop gives a thumbs up to The Idles, and says their track "Mercedes Marxist" captures the original spirit of The Punk genre. And indeed it does. What a cool song it is. But thanks go to you for expressing what's happening with you, so many thousands of miles away from where I am geographically but seemingly right next to me in spirit. Keep your head up and stay doing the right thing in life; always remember that what you sow is what you will reap, and never mind the haters and doubters. They have no place next to someone as lovely as you. Peace

I work a cushy-ass office job with a ridiculously good pay... and I cannot stand the people around me. Combine every damn person you talk about in these songs and you get the people who stay with these jobs. Vengeful, petty people who hardly work for decades and still have nothing going for them outside the 9-5. Still holding the gall to talk down to anyone who actually has a life, whinging about immigrants. As a queer man, I get called a groomer or pedophile in public at least once a month. Wonder if he had a metronome to line up the head banging. It is around 115 bpm, although it fluctuates a bit so it can't have been easy sync up. Very interesting, thought provoking song and a good video to accompany it. My like of Anna Calvi brought me here. More music to listen to now!
