What's going on with me??? I am a woman in her 70's, one who mostly plays roots music and John Fahey on her steel string guitar,,, , and I am obsessed with Idles, obsessed, I tell you! I am smitten with the creativity and originality of this band. Sometimes I hear a song and go, nah..and then, an hour later I can't stop thinking about it and I need to hear it again. I'm late to the party, but I'm so glad they are getting their due. Ok, I have to go listen to Dancer again now.

Honestly it’s really Simple. they sound great, they mean what they say, they don’t hide behind irony, and they give 100% performance wise. They also make fairly simple music to play……But they do a fantastic job of warping simple guitar riffs, and turning them into something that doesn’t really even sound like guitar. It sounds more like they’re using a sampler. I love it. The track “GROUNDS”;is a great example. If you haven’t already, go see them live. It was one of the wildest shows I’ve been to in awhile, but every single person there was just……cool as hell, and genuinely very kind. lol. They all seemed to understand the etiquette behind punk rock shows (this is not always the case with younger generations (cough) (cough) gen z. If someone fell in the pit, four or five dudes dove straight in there and pulled them up. The band made sure to throw the crowd water bottles throughout the show……but at the same time people were going apeshit lol. They opened with colossus and right when that amazing outro kicked in, everyone with general admission tickets just tore apart the fence to the vip section and the whole crowd just merged together in one massive pit. I loved everything about lol……not to mention they opened for LCD sound system, they’re amazing in a totally different way but it was a nice wind down to after Idles. It was an amazing show

Honestly you just sound like a rad 70 year old to me lol……no offense meant, but most 70 year olds are not listening stuff this visceral. But I honestly love hearing shit like this. I despise the idea that old age leads people to being culturally bankrupt or sometimes morally bankrupt. I plan on listening to Dead Boys, iggy pop and the NY dolls until I drop dead.

It's really interesting to me how most people seem to interpret the "i am my father's son his shadow weighs a ton" line as being compared unfavourably to a great father. I have a father who messed up in all sorts of ways and let me and my family down all the time, and to me that lyric reminds me of this creeping fear I have about being more similar to him that I'd like to admit, and the possibility that I could up repeating several of his mistakes.

@@aaronflorian8150 Nope, how many times does Joe Talbot need to say "We're not a fucking punk band" before people like you actually listen? Singer Joe Talbot, however, rejects all of these labels. In 2017, he was quoted as saying: "We're not a post punk band. I guess we have that motorik, engine-like drive in the rhythm section that some post punk bands have but we have plenty of songs that aren't like that at all." I'm not one to psychoanalyze music videos but I never noticed he's covered his face in the first half of the video and that's when the song is focused on hiding himself and who he really is and by the time the masks removed he's had enough and ready to break the bones of the fuckers who made him feel like he had to hide himself in the first place. The guiltless righteous gay rage that kicks in after the bridge is catharsis put to film/song. Great all round
@jamesenwright68414 жыл бұрын
Also, all the shots at the start where his face is covered are static photos, maybe representing how he feels like he's stuck and can't express himself. Then we get the shots with his head surrounded by the crossword, birthday cake etc, where he can move and feels like he can express himself. After the breakdown he feels confident and shows who he is, and the things that surround his head, things that make up a 'normal' life that were once static start to warp, sometimes affecting him. Then at the end we get all the shots from the beginning again, but he has someone with him in each of them and now feels confident to show his face and show who he is. I love how hard they went with the symbolism in this video.

“What you have to understand, is your father was your model for God. If you're male and you're Christian and living in America, your father is your model for God. And if you never know your father, if your father bails out or dies or is never at home, what do you believe about God? What you end up doing is you spend your life searching for a father and God. What you have to consider is the possibility that God doesn't like you. Could be, God hates us. This is not the worst thing that can happen.” ― Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club

I saw these guys live when I was younger. Must have been 20 or so. Was so excited to see them too the bass player was very nice & the lead vocalist surely had presence in the stage

they make their way so easily to my emotions, whenever i listen to them i feel like crying last time it happened with a band was have heart, the message conveyed through the music is too positively contrasting with the energy they put into it literally makes me breakdown

I have to thank the TIDAL algorithm for leading me here. Had been listening to Amyl and the Sniffers album and it auto-continued into IDLES. I literally have listened to nothing else since. I love discovering a band who has an entire back catalogue to explore. No better joy.

This goes hard like so few songs do. Utterly raw, honest, emotional, brutal and completely real. I absolutely love it.

I loved the simplicity in lyricism of brutalism but it's so nice to see the change with some many different tones in one song. Reeeally nice
