Hi all, I'm happy to report I have now sorted the AM radio and it is working as expected. This was a result of not connecting up the 12v power source to the pajeros powered antenna. With the amp trigger wire now providing power to the antenna, AM radio is working just fine. I'll cover this off in the over view / usage video to come.

Hi, the Rockford 12 speaker system was a bastard to deal with when installing a new pioneer head unit, if you want to keep the existing amplifier setup. I eventually got it to work with everything except the centre speaker. To get the AM to work you need to give it power. I'm sure the green or blue wire will be there for it. It cost about $300 for the extra attachments to get it going. Thanks.

@@damiendaly1462 Hi, I have forgotten what I did lol (getting old) and taken the credit for it but my buddy did the soldering etc. I think we did probe all the pins on the OEM harness to get 12v and eventually found one. Hope that helps. The website aerpro.com lists all the parts needed for Rockford. One new item which I think has replaced MITO02 is the AXTOMI2 (looks the same product anyway). And we used the APUNISW2 to retain steering wheel controls. Plug and play mostly.

I didn't think the little extra size would be a major difference but it looks so much better than the 7. Crossing my fingers it goes well. Granted it really only needs to operate as a tablet really for me to be happy. The AM thing is bothering me a little though.

Nice work man! Just wanted to check with you, did you connect anything to the video out? I'm trying to find a way of having an extra screen up near the windscreen for the navigation app, I just find it safer than down on the head unit. Would be cool if that worked. This is exactly what I want. I wonder if it fits with the MMCS Rockford system. Their broken english website is so hard to follow. I hope is truly is a plug and play system without the loss of the roof mounted TV, rear camera, steering controls and 12 speakers.

Hey B4W. Yes mate. I use it for phone calls every day. Audio is nice and clear and works well. Not had any issues with it. I use google assistant to dial all calls from my phone and it routes it through the head unit whilst under way. No issues there at all. I'm still trying to find the perfect off road mapping software but I have been using locus maps and just using the freebies on there plus shonky maps. If you know of anything else to try, I'm all ears.

I don't have steering wheel controls but what are you running into. I was looking at the add on steering wheel controls they sell but feedback isnt great on them. Is your AM radio working in yours?

I got it sorted out mate. I was referring to the stock steering wheel audio controls, they work with the unit. They started showing me some issues after a month or so of installing the idoing, turns out it was a bad clock spring. Conclusion the idoing still exceeding expectations at every level!!!

like the look and fit of the of the unit - does look neat and factory. Does the screen suffer from glare and do you need a data connection to use maps or they work offline? Hey mate - Did you reuse the white trim clips from the old fascia or does the new one clip straight in? Any problems with not using the old mounting rails? PS love the channel keep it up.

fits straight in. didnt use any of the old trim around the head unit because the one in there wasn't standard, so i didn't have it anyway. hope that helps

Les, happy to report, I've got the AM working as it should. It was only a case of connecting up the powered antenna on the paj to a 12v source, in this case the amp trigger cable and all was good. I hadn't connected it up as I wasn't able to ID what it was during the install as the previous owner had extended it and only used a black wire. So I didn't want to apply 12v to something which looked like a ground wire. so we're all good and I can go back to monitoring my old fart radio channels again. Mostly for fire alerts etc . I swear :)

hi, great video. I enjoyed watching as I'm in the middle of installing a Joying unit into my 2016 Pajero NX (or Shogun as we call them in the UK). The unit is great and the wiring was a fairly simple swap from the original wiring (my OEM unit is 8750A451). I fitted today and all works well except the steering wheel controls. On my original unit there are 6 connections and I think I'm missing the one that handles CANbus. Please can you confirm if this is right - 1) Aerial connection 2) 16 pin plug next to aerial - I think this has the CANbus and my wiring loom didn't come with a plug for this socket 3) 18 pin plug - not sure what's on this one ? 4) 20 pin plug - Main Audio Connector 5) 1 pin plug - think this could be satnav attena ? 6) 8 pin plug - think this is rear parking camera On my wiring loom supplied with the Joying head unit, all plugs are connected except the 16 pin and the 1 pin Can you confirm if the 16 pin contains the CANbus connections and which pins . The Joying unit does have single connectors for CANbus in and out so I could splice in. Thank you, any advice much appreciated.

Hi David , sorry mate, can't help with this one. It's been a while since the install and I can't recall that level of info. I've installed a few now and it's hard to remember what was what. I thought the steering wheel controls were labeled and were brown in colour ? I can't tell you which harness they were on though. again I could be thinking of another install. That and I didn't have steering controls on my wheel, so I didn't pay it any real attention through the install. sorry i can't be of more use.

@@DENMONKEY hi again. Thanks for your reply, I understand it was a long while back. I got my Joying unit sorted and I'm very pleased. I only have one gripe - the microphone quality it not great. I'm using the external one that came with the unit and I ran the cable up near the rear view mirror and it plugs into the back on the Joying unit. I'm thinking is there anyway to use the original mic that is used by the OEM unit ? I assume it is located in the top unit near the rear view mirror. Do you have any idea where it's located. If I could find it, I can just splice in the wiring to use this one instead of the one coming with the Joying unit ! Thanks.

Hi Kernal and thanks mate. Yes, I got the AM radio working. It's still not great but that's more to do with the crap antenna set up in the rear window of the pajero. I just hadn't connected the 12volt power to the antenna. The previous owner had used a black wire for it and I thought it was a ground so didnt want to put power to it. Now it has power, its working. I don't beleive it has android auto as such but you can mirror your android phone on the screen and control it . That said, I'm not sure why you would need to. let me know your thinking. It's basically an android tablet in your dash, so you can do anything directly on the unit that you could do on your phone. Any apps you've paid for on your phone can be installed on to the head unit. That will save you connecting up. Let me know if I'm missing something though. Normally android auto is on non android head units like kenwood or sony etc where you can't install the android apps direclty and this is how they let you do it. here's the info direct from the website Screen Mirror Link By using the Easy-Connect APPS,you should connect your android smartphone with this unit via USB charging cable and Bluetooth.you can mirror link the connected android smart phone display such as main menu,photos/videos,Online navi maps. also you can control the connected Android Smart Phone on this unit.it can support the most Android Smart Phone. Hey Drawcon, I'm afraid, I don't have the SWC on my Paj, so I can't confirm that for you . I beleive they do , but I can't give you anything definitive. Shoot them an email mate and they'll let you know. they're pretty good with that sort of stuff.

Hi! Thanks for the very helpful video! What is the screen brightness like in the sun? I installed another chinese branded head unit in my old touareg, and the screen was almost invisible in the midday sun. It was so bad that I ended up connecting a lenovo tablet to the unit via bluetooth and mounting it on my dash... not ideal, but showed me just how crap the head unit's screen was. Now that I've bought a Pajero, I don't want to make the same mistake so would appreciate your comments on the screen quality. All the best!

Hi there, I've not had any issues with being able to see the screen regardless of the time of day etc. But I haven't had any issues with any of the units I've had in there. I'm still very happy with the unit itself.

Do you still recommend this head unit or are you aware of better ones? Have you installed an amplifier with this as well. I have a 2016 Nx and the cabin and road noise makes an amplifier a desired addition. If you have not done this yet can you consider this for an upcoming video.?

I still like it mate. its still doing everything the same as it was when first installed. I haven't had any updates though to the operating software which I'd like to see to ensure I'm up to date. the apps all update but I fear it's getting dated because of this. Still it's working and I have no complaints. I do already have it connected to a couple of amps. These were part of the previous install, so there wasn't any work required there to video im afraid

Thanks for showing this one up! Looked at ali for that listing and I see that factory mic and factory rev camera won't work. Bit of a deal breaker. Also wondering about sound quality on it vs. original rockford from exceed. If they would sort out swap like for like, so camera + glove box USB + original mic, that would be no brainer otherwise it is not so convincing... yet :) I appreciate they went way ahead on making this easy as but do you know if they plan to make it real "like for like"? BTW. Leopold was pretty interested in that one as well. Cocomelon and "Baby Shark" on dash ... that would be amazing! :-))

all good questions but I'm afraid ones I can't answer and not knowing the set up for the RF gear from the main unit, I can't offer any suggestions either. I would have happily guinea piggged it, if I had one. The best i can do is say shoot them a message and see what they say. I noticed Idoing just subscribed, so they may answer themselves but I cant be sure. I hope they do because its looking like a common question. Hope little leo is going well :) I'm more of a lion king fan myself but cartoons is cartoons :)

Yup, I asked then on Ali. Regarding factory cam I got link to some Russian forum where someone worked out wiring diagram + some transistor - DIY. In terms of mic and USB - no support and they don't plan to do so. :( Hopefully they change their mind over a time... Anyway, again thanks for bringing this unit to my attention!

So you received this unit for $0. Wiring explanation (plug & play) only applies if you have RCA plugs already in the OEM wiring (??) No explanation as to whether SWC is operable using IGoings harness. Your wiring is not included in your video. I have a 2013 Mitsubishi NW (non Rockford) and your wiring suggestions are not included (no RCA plug and play applies!!!). I have an aftermarket unit installed but original harness still in place. RCA option does not apply. Does harness allow full SWC function? After fitting the fascsia to your dash the rest is a little "confused" .

yes mate, the unit was sent out to me for free. No, you don't need the RCAs. The previous owner of my vehicle had installed an amplifier and this was what the rcas went to. If you don't have an amp, you would use one of the other included harnesses (choose the right one for your model on the website based on what your dash looks like) Without the RCAs you would be using the original speakers which would be wired through the plug and should be plug and play as part of the fitment. Re the SWC, since I don't have it in my NT, I can't give you info on it. I'm happy to pass on info where I can test it for myself and be 100% sure but since I can't, it's not something I can help with. ahain, just shoot them an email on the site and they will help you. The SWC on the Paj is only 2 wires, so if it didn't work as plug and play, providing you could locate the wires, the other included harness (the one I used) does have wires for the SWC. I didn't go into detail re the install side of thing since I was replacing an after market install and so it could vary greatly for others. Plus I did an install video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2aqhpqJaNSifLc back when I installed the pumpkin head unit. So that might be of help to you.

I believe the 3g story of Belvidere usb using a dongle rather than just the use of a Sim card. Re the camera, I'd say it works friend in the output of your current Cabrera and the connection type. The connector type in the unit is rca.

I run mine connected over bluetooth and connected to my 4g wifi modem that I also have in the car. For my other car, I connect via bluetooth for calling and hotspot it to use the wifi for the head unit. Hope that makes sense

I just installed one in my 2012 Pajero. Looks great but I can't get sound working. I don't think the amp is wired up with the harness that idoing gave me. The service guys are trying to help but I haven't had any luck Any help would be great. Note. I have the Rockford Fosgate 12 speaker system. Plus the MMCS head unit makes no sense

Hey Pat, I'm afraid I don't have any ideas. Other than dropping down the top menu where the wifi etc is and checking the little speaker icon there. This opens up the equalizer setting. Maybe check to make sure it's not muted etc there. no sounds at all, have you tried the phone or radio ? Since I don't have a RF set up in mine I cant test anything for you. Does that use any RCA connectors at all ? Did the harness seem to fit correctly? Double check you've pushed them all in on the back of the radio. Is it working otherwise? powering up etc ? I've found their support to be pretty good. they should see you right . can you keep us posted ?

Update I got some help from the support guys and we still couldn't get the amp to switch on. The Head unit was working but still no sound. That is until I started driving down the highway checking if the illumination switch works. A beep came through the speakers. I turned the radio on and MUSIC in my ears. So now I drive around with the headlights on and have music.

@@patrickmccarron9944 that sounds to me like the illumition and amp remote lines are some how crossed. So when you turn on your headlights it's powering up the amp.

@@DENMONKEYUpdate. It all works now. I spliced the Illumination circuit and the battery circuit together on the CANBUS. Now it works even with the headlights on or off. As much as a pain it was to get it working I will still recommend one over the dirt MMCS. Sounds great with the Rockford Fosgate System

Howdy - reading through the specs of this Idong it says "Support Rear View Camera (do not support original car rear view camera) Really - is this true - we would have to swap the camera out to keep this?

Not sure mate. I had an aftermarket one which had a RCA plug on it. worked fine. I'm not sure if the standard one has a different plug on it.

@@DENMONKEY Just a thought - is there any reason why the existing OEM camera with the mirror integrated display would stop working with this install? An aftermarket camera could be added just for this unit (perhaps higher up for reversing trailers etc), effectively giving you two rear views.

try placing your mic away from your speakers and try getting it up high. If that doesnt work, you can try a piece of tape over the mic on the head unit itself. that might work also.

I have installed about 5 months ago. It's perfect but i have echo problem while making calls. I hidden the gps antenna in the dash behind the head unit, navigation perfect is it a good place?

My GPS antenna sits under my dash mat and works fine. I've seen others leave them inside the dash and work. I don't get an echo on mine. Where is your mic set up?

@@DENMONKEY it's attached through the A-pillar, for me no echo, but person on the other side of the call get very annoying echo. I believe the reason is because the voice is coming from one speaker, the one on top of the dash which is some how close to the mic.

Not sure mate, mine didn't have a factory camera, so I'm not sure of the specs etc. I'm sure someone may be able to answer for you.

Factory reversing camera on pajeros runs at 6.6V So you need an adaptor or fit a new camera that is 12V

no mate it doesn't . you mirror an Iphone but not control it . from their website Screen Mirror Link By using the Easy-Connect APPS,you should connect your android smartphone with this unit via USB charging cable and Bluetooth.you can mirror link the connected android smart phone display such as main menu,photos/videos,Online navi maps. also you can control the connected Android Smart Phone on this unit.it can support the most Android Smart Phone. For Iphone,use wifi connection,you can mirror the unit,but can not control.

I've got lots of questions from Pajero Owners who have a Rockford set up asking if this will work for them. I asked Idoing the question and here is their reply. the idoing will allow them to use all of their Rockford speakers and if they choose the correct option if the car with rockford, check this video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3_Xc4GFfZmggrc it will still be plug and play with the harness . there are two different adapters standard and photo 7,3949.jpg is standard, 7215.jpb is photo 7 before ordering check if standard or photo 7 we both have plug and play adapter Keeping in mind, my NT does not have an RF set up and as such I have not tested it, so I can neither confirm nor deny the info provided above. If you try one on an RF set up, it would be great if you could report on your results. cheers Brett

I don't mate no. Shoot idoing an email and the might be and to help. Mine wasn't the RF set up. Some of the others below have got it working. Maybe result to them and ask a question.
