im not much of a sonic fan but i dont think the third one is gonna be the ending of the series, considering how many stories they could do, a metal sonic story/sonic heroes, sonic adventure 1, sonic 06 which actually had a good plot from what i've seen but was badly executed, im assuimng there will at least be 6 mainline films and a couple more spinoffs at minimum, especially considering how successful the films have been so far, though i do assume after sonic 3 they will leave earth so that they can go to enviroments more akin to the games, either that or they will somehow bring all the mobians to earth.

As someone who currently works in the theater industry and has manager experience in said industry i can tell you with 100% certainty that sonic will sell more. When the first live action lion King came out we had people demanding refunds for it saying things like if we wanted to watch national geographic we could have just done that at home. Not to mention people are getting burnt out on the nostalgia bait live action remakes. The sonic movie on the other hand is going to have a much broader appeal. People who aren't interested in it will go to it to bring their kids , young adults who grew up on things like sonic adventure 2 are going to show up to this thing in mass , and pretty much anyone who watched the first 2 films in theaters is more than likely going to watch this one too. I'm not sure if Mufasa is going to necessarily "flop" but I'm certain it won't outsell sonic 3.

See, I don't really get the demand for Mufasa. Yeah, the Lion King remake did well, but that was when these remakes were still kinda fresh. The only ones that they had before were Cinderella, Jungle Book, and I believe Tarzan, which were received more positively than some of the stuff since. Snow White is desperately trying to push people away. Plus, there was love from the original movie that brought people over. Mufasa isn't a remake, so there's not much attachment as that has already been told, and this is a new story capitalising on the brand. There's also the Black Widow where the character is dead, which can turn people away. Mufasa and Scar's relationship was already well developed, so nothing is really being added. Sonic has a lot more going for it being a retelling of probably the most popular story, bringing in the most popular rival and character, making it more aligned with the games and has a long built journey from bad CGI up to the biggest film that it can get. I think Sonic just has more excitement going for it as there's more to get out of it.

I'd love this to be the case, but we gotta be realistic. Industry estimates are putting Mufasa around 800 million+ worldwide box office. Sonic 3 around 550 million. The last Lion King made 1.6 BILLION dollars and the last Sonic made 400 million. There's just no way. BUT ... that's not a total negative. If Sonic 3 makes over 450 million (which it will) that will be a huge boost for this movies sales, and some (myself included) think it will break 600 million. That's a big W and guarantees a Shadow spin off movie happens. Sonic 3 is gonna be a hit but it's not doing Disney live action movie numbers- those films are still MASSIVE sellers in most international markets.
