I think there's a possibility of Mufasa grossing less than the Lion King remake, some of the latest Disney reimaginings like Cruella, Dumbo, Pinocchio and The Little Mermaid didn't perform as well as they expected (though Pinocchio was a streaming movie), and some of the sequels to popular Disney movies like Maleficient 2 and Tim Burton's Alice Through the Looking Glass perform badly at the box office despite the originals doing great numbers. I've seen some of Disney's reimaginings like Cinderella, The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, but I had no interest in the Aladdin, The Lion King or Mermaid remakes, perhaps people are getting tired of them On the other hand, I've saw both Sonic movies in theaters and I enjoyed them, I think their earnings were affected by the pandemic, but now that we're fully recovered Sonic 3 could make over 600 million dollars at the worldwide box office

Here's the sad truth: James Earl Jones will always have a special place in our hearts from the iconic Darth Vader to Mufasa in The Lion King (1994), but as he pointed out in the animated feature: "A King's time as ruler rises and falls like the sun. In other words, Disney has to move on from their respective IP because they've already proven themselves as juggernauts in the animation industry, over milking their brand is only going to turn their target demographic away. Yes The 2019 remake was a financial success when it came out, but the hype died down as both critics and audiences caught on awhile after. There is one aspect to Mufasa possibly failing where Sonic 3 could succeed. Which is the live action remake of The Little Mermaid only barely breaking even at the box office rather than making bank like the other live action films before it. That, and the huge marketing push Sega’s been making this year, with the Year Of Shadow. Including a new game, an animated series on KZbin, several major toy rollouts (including new LEGO sets featuring Shadow), and so much more. Hell, Sega’s even releasing some DLC based on the new movie for that new Shadow game. It really does seem like the disappointing BO results from another Disney remake, and the biggest marketing push from Sega could factor into Sonic 3’s possible win against Mufasa.

I think sonic 3 is going to be a runaway success. Because let's be honest here, Disney's reputation has gone far down hill. Losing their own fans every day, with every stupid decision they've made. Not to mention, that the Disney live action remakes, have lost interest with people over time, even if it's an original story, I don't think people will give it the time of day, because it's associated with the live action remakes. I’m not worried about how Sonic 3 is going to perform with Mufasa but there is one thing that’s always bothering me and that’s with how the digital release of Sonic 3 is going to happen. Sonic 3 is going to do well but it’s only going to last 30-45 days until it hits into streaming. It’s not too late though, There’s a lot of hope going into the movie and if people want to see it then it’s time to rise up and show Hollywood what we really want to see because good movies will get people in theaters.

Only time will tell, but we know that it's not impossible for even Disney sequals/spinoffs to flop regardless of how big the previous films were. After all, Lightyear and Alice through the looking glass were massive failures in spite of Toy Story 3+4 and the live action Alice in Wonderland making over a billion dollars each. While i can't confidently say i'm expecting it, it's possible that Mufasa could end up as another failed spinoff nobody wanted, especially since it has legitimate competition. I'm sure Sonic 3 will be fine even if Mufasa makes more money, but i don't think i've ever rooted harder for one movie to win over the other and i'd be beyond happy if Sonic 3 won the battle.

The Lion King will probably sell a lot of tickets to all the disney adults looking to recapture their childhood, but the people who go to see Sonic will probably have a lot more fun. If the previous movies are any indication. I know I'm rooting for Sonic, but disney is able to get away with murder and people will still give them tons of money just because they saw a couple of VHS tapes as a child. No one expected a lion king "live action" prequel, but people have been waiting for Sonic 3 since the moment the end credits for Sonic 2 started rolling. I'm sure I'm projecting a lot of my own feelings onto the wider public, but I at least know what others in the comments are thinking.

Most people online are saying that they'll see Sonic 3 rather than Mufasa Reason #2: Disney's current business model is mostly nostalgia pandering via live action remakes and unnecessary sequels. Usually what ends up happening with these is that they ruin what made those movies special in the first place. Plus, from what I've heard, no one was asking for a lion king prequel, the like/dislike ratio on its most recent trailer can kinda testify that. Reason #3: Disney, in their response to the recent lawsuit against them, has gone and flushed a lot of good will that they had with their audience down the drain. For those who aren't aware, a widower tried to sue Disney because his wife died to her peanut allergy when they ate a a restaurant in Disney world, the but because he signed up for a free trial for Disney+ prior, he could not sue. Disney faced a LOT of backlash because of this. They've since backtracked on their stance, but that doesn't just make the bad press go away, I'm kinda thinking it is gonna hurt Mufasa's outcome

To be completely honest, I think both of them will do very well in the box office. The lion king 2019 is one of the highest grossing Disney movies ever, this will definitely appeal to young kids who enjoyed that movie. it will also likely get more of a boost since the death of James Earl Jones. I expect Mufusa will at least make around the same amount as sonic, the problem is Disney live action movies cost a ton to make so they need to raise a ton more to make a profit.

Honestly the only reason I remembered Mufasa existed was because of the date. If it wasn’t competing I would have forgotten it all together. I am definitely going to see Sonic 3 opening weekend and the other I will refuse to see it in theaters.

@@EzihChikamso Knuckles doesn't stretch it's plot, it doesn't undermine or demean the titular character, it doesn't desecrate what came before, it wasn't dragged out over an extended period of time, it wasn't used as a political soapbox for the showrunners to spout their poisonous ideologies onto the viewers, and it justifies it's own existence. ^ All things Disney+ Marvel and especially Star Wars are guilty of in spades. You want a Sonic show that sucks, go watch Sonic Prime.

My theory is unlike last time in 2019 (where Disney is lucky with the box office numbers), more people nowadays hate Disney for multiple reasons, including countless soulless live action projects (which lots and lots of folks of the Internet hated it). And also, in the 2020 decade, the shenanigans of Disney live action movies are dying. Granted, there may be a few families curious to check it out, but I feel like it does not say much for the hype. Sonic 3, on the other hand, has a really promising trailer with a very promising fanbase (which the first two were already good, despite their limitations from the pandemic). And for sure a lot of kids would be down to watch it.

I think it would be really cool if Sonic comes out on top. But the first Lion King live action made a LOT of money, and I do know a few people who are interested, especially since its an original story. Unfortunately I think this it'll be similar to Avatar 2 where the internet thinks no one wants it but it'll make plenty of money I think. But who knows, maybe I'll be wrong. 🤷‍♀️
