This is 100% one of the most accurate covers that actually captures the real Ai. I think that this is really how she was, how she thought. It surprisingly helped me understand one of the most complicated characters.

@@decriptedperson4516 What you said about her traumatic past and present colliding is true, but I'd like to agree to disagree on her not being complicated. You see, I wrote this thinking about her actions not her mentality, or past, or the way she thought. Basically I'm talking about her as a character. What's complicated about her then? Well, it's simple to explain but harder to understand, and I apologise in advance if I'm unable to explain the following properly. In the anime (haven't read the manga, if u have don't spoil pls), Ai Hoshino appears as an idol who is pretending to be someone who she's not. But then, who is Ai Hoshino really? As far as the anime has gone there doesn't really appear to any clue as to what she's really like deep inside. I would say she can be silly, but then again, we have no current idea of how deep her "Perfect Ai" really goes. Or if there's any hint of who she once was in her. I'm fully aware of the fact that her role in the anime is currently purely for the plot. But it really doesn't feel like the anime of one of Aka Akasaka's manga would ignore the personality of such a vital character in the story. After all, when you think about all of what I just said: Isn't the whole point of Oshi No Ko to follow Aqua's mental journey? But the reason FOR his mental state is because of his mother, idol, and inspiration: Ai Hoshino. Just saying, from Aqua's perspective, the only thing I think he really wants is to find out who the Real Ai actually is. Who is beloved idol is and that answer may decide the final answer to the current plotline: Will Aqua follow a descent into madness, or is there still a light in the dark for him? (Damn, I feel like a film theorist or something rn, sorry for it being soo long but I hope you now understand why I don't take someone saying she's "simple". It feels kinda personal to me because.. I relate to her in some ways.. Anyways, thanks for reading and know that I didn't mean to offend you in any way if I possibly did in what I said above.) Have a good day/night! :D

Aqua knows both of herself, the one she shows on the media and the one she's showed to them as a mother and she is just like I stated a person who can't love because of her past but still wants to, it doesn't make sense but she's trying henceforth The Perfect Idol because she herself is a lie and also she hides as much as she can(ngl she sucks at hiding compared to their father) I respect the peaceful and respectful conversation with you, very much appreciated. I also do love her character so I understand a bit on how you'd feel.

⭐in honor of... idk actually i was just bored i've decided to put in some of the lyrics i 'analyzed' but left out of the final comment... i'll mark them with stars so its easier to see which ones were there and which ones werent (ALSO THERE WILL BE SPOILERS IN THIS COMMENT FOR OSHI NO KO (at least the first episode) SO BEWARNED I CANT GET OVER THIS. THIS COVER HAS RUINED MY LIFE. I WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN the first verse lyrics & the chorus lyrics are similar but in a refreshing way to other lyrics, sort of like room temp water compared to cold cucumber water ⭐"I have nothing to eat," reminded me of how idols are usually starved by their idol companies due to the unrealistic beauty standards :( ⭐"Being liked, being loved, is a thing I’ve never known" how Ai hasn't felt true love until she had her kids... ⭐"But the words you whisper charm me every time, whether truth or lies I swear there’s nothing else I wouldn’t do, for you, until I make you mine!" may seem cute but for me it seems more like the stalker that ended her life, especially the part ''whether truth or lies-'' sort of feels like the fake love Ai shows her fans, how the stalker doesn't care if it's true or not he's just like creepy ⭐"I’ll just smile away till I’m the perfect idol~!" contrasted with the "You're the perfect idol~!" shows how her group members see her as the perfect idol but she still feels she has a ways to go before she's 'perfect' "A girl or god and they can't tell the difference anyway," THIS LINE KILLED ME. IT SHANKED ME IN A NEW YORK CITY ALLEYWAY. the MV at the line "They can't tear away from the look in your eyes" entranced me. i literally couldn't look away... (pun intended) the jealousy part was SO COOL, again it's like room temp water compared to cold cucumber water. ⭐"There’s no way that this is thanks to her and only-" her group members know that their popularity is because of Ai and they're just 'extras' as the lyric puts it "So imperfect a crime to try when no-one is better then Ai!" IS SUCH A COOL LINE?? I LOVE HOW INSTEAD OF "Nobody else could ever be mine!" in Will Stetson's lyrics or "Allow to rival my climb" in Jubyphonic's, it continues from the POV of her fellow band members! ⭐⭐ok i just noticed this but '-when no-one is better then Ai!" could also be heard as "-when no-one is better then I!" and...damn i like how in the opening part of the first chorus, she sings in a first-person view, but in the opening part of the second chorus, she sings in a third person view (from the view of her idol group members!), really gives another layer of depth to the jealousy part ⭐"Not a single flaw inside of you," contrasted with the first chorus's "One day when the lies become the truth," Ai knows her love is fake and it's her one and only flaw, while the other group members see her as this perfect star with no flaws ⭐"The lies that coated every part of me I tried to hide, won’t show that I’m so weak and hollow deep inside" how Ai hides her lies from her fans, not showing how she feels empty and without love inside ⭐"So goes it, I’m the real Ai!" the 'real Ai' being the perfect idol everyone sees, everyone believing that idol Ai is the real Ai instead of the lies... ⭐"My love for you! So untrue but I still build it up" she's painfully aware of how it's a lie... A "Keeping secrets safe from view is just part of the job!" highlights idol culture SO WELL? I LOVE IT AND NOT EVEN TO MENTION THE LINES FOR AQUA AND RUBY... i literally screamed when i heard "Working day and nightly no one sweats like Aqua!" still gives it that feel of the work idols put in but instead of Ai being praised its Aqua, also with the added bonus of Ai directly complimenting her kids, as with Ruby's line! "Ruby shining brightly in my eyes and in her blood!" ALSO HIGHLIGHTS HOW RUBY INHERITED THE 'IDOL GENE' FROM AI, WHILE ALSO SHOWCASING AI'S LOVE FOR RUBY! "With a song and dance I can be spun into your Maria!" LOVE this line because it shows how idols are so often elevated to these divine pedestals (like the first line showcased in this comment!) this song truly shows this instead of subtle allegories like in the original song! "Do you really think that you can beat my kind of love" I interpret this as a sort of light-hearted challenge to her kids, or maybe even to her idol group members, asking if they think they can handle the true idol life (in the case of her kids) or if they can truly shine as bright as she did (in the case of her fellow idols), but I think it's a question to her kids (with her kids & her in the background of the MV as this line plays) ⭐"Being liked, being loved, is a thing I’ll never know" unlike how 'I've never known," this feels like after she died... ⭐"When the words I whisper turn out to be true, then one day I’ll fulfill my promise to you" the promise being the promise she made to her kids (i think idk i havent watched the anime/manga)... ⭐"(Let me believe it)" sort of like shes pleading to believe the fake love she shows to her fans... honestly this was the ONLY lyric i didn't really care for, but i like the symbolism AGAIN, with the opening part of the last/third chorus, it's again a breath of fresh air compared to other lyrics, and THEN... ⭐"And while the world keeps turning I’ll get what I want" shes so filled with hope... in my head this is after she has ruby & aqua, subconsciously knowing she loves thme... "And the real me might just be enough!" HAS ME ROLLING AND DEAD. IT"S SUCH A GOOD LINE? every time i listen to this i disintegrate "I know that I can learn to make it different someday!" you can REALLY HEAR the hope in Ai's voice, that someday she may be able to love and be loved in return! ⭐an then the next lines as she still hopes but its dull after she dies AA "If only I could say, like I really wanted, everything I felt for you both face to face" if you know what happens in the anime/manga, this line hits even HARDER... "And now I can't deny, this is real for once in my life!" HAS ME WAILING. you can truly tell how much she loves her kids even though she couldn't realize it till the end, and she was finally able to say it at the very end... ⭐the final chorus always has me in AGONY because its so PASSIONATE?? AND VIBRANT??? it makes me feel like im on the stage with her..... THE MV ONLY MAKES THIS SONG BETTER. THE BEAUTIFUL ART COMBINED WITH THE EDM? AGAIN, it gives this song SUCH A NEW VIBE? all other covers are ruined for me. i will never be able to go back. combining both the new art & scenes from the old mv & SOME NEW PARTS ON ITS OWN gives it such a new but familiar vibe and AAGGHHH. 0:28 with the bunny sinking reminds me of the end of the original MV, where she dropped her bunny costume into the water. ITS SO GOOD 0:40 where the scene of Aqua reaching out, then it switching into pre-chorus Ai's scene makes it feel like Aqua is reaching out for Ai! 0:48 where Ai's looking at a star and she reaches up to grab it, and it switches into Ruby reaching for the same star but unable to grab it yet is SUCH A MASTERMIND CHOICE? its so beautiful showing how Ai was able to attain 'Perfect Idol Status' but Ruby is still on her journey, not yet reaching the star in the first chorus. looking at Ai through a sea of glowsticks & then the shot of her in front of a crowd is SO PRETTY, especially after showing Ruby reaching for the same thing that Ai has 1:11 where Aqua falls and it switches to a shot from the original MV of Ai hugging her kids... thta means something. dont ask me what but it does (promise) (id never lie to you) 1:17 where Aqua and Ruby look at eachother and it shows the heart disintegrating is still such a good scene. ITS SO COOL in the jealousy verse it still retains the vibe of the original MV but with an added charm/sparkle to it and the post-chorus of Ai singing about idol life with the LAYERS... the LAYERS of ANIMATION... god, it gives so much DEPTH to the MV 2:18 of Aqua's line, where it shows the sort of clock-like blue in the background gives familiarity from the original MV (same with Ruby's line!) with the line "I'll fulfill my promise to you." with the shot of Ruby reaching for Ai's star, (yes I know i've talked about this before) is just SO COOL? and i just realized "This is real for once in my life." with the shot of Ai with her two kids... the ending shot of Ruby and her band members entering the stage for the first time, along with the shot of Aqua with BOTH stars in his eyes (despite them being black) as well as Ruby with both the stars is just SO COOL? & the ending shot of them together, looking like idols posing for a photoshoot... and then it zooms in on Ai, the perfect idol that both Aqua and Ruby are striving for. maybe i'm looking too far into this BUT THIS IS JUST SO GOOD??? probably the first time i've written a comment this long BUT I COULDN'T HELP IT. i'm going to be listening to this on loop for the next month.

I would at least like to mention that YOASOBI did put a lot of work into making their English lyrics sound close phonetically to their original Japanese lyrics. (Like "daremo ga" and "that emotion". Despite not meaning the same, they _sound_ the same. This is seen all over the lyrics) Otherwise though, yeah, you can tell it's just English applied to a Japanese song. I notice Japanese artists often tend to ignore flow with specifically how words are pronounced with stress (like the difference between "présent" [gift] and "presént" [to show]). They usually just put the words there based on amount of syllables alone. It works with Japanese, but not always with English.

I've always liked the contrast between the "idolish stage performance" vibes from the chorus and the more mellow part when talking about how Ai has never known love and I feel that this cover in particular shines even brighter in that regard. From the visuals to the voice, it really gives the feeling that you're on a concert, sometimes broken off by the more bittersweet and almost lonely sentiments. All in all, I think this cover works really well, especially with the topics of "the flashy show business with a dark side unknown to the public" that Oshi no ko in gereal displays So, great job
