I like them because unlike the Dark Eldar, the Sea Elves aren’t evil. Yes they do terrible things, but they do it secure souls to save their children and take no pleasure in what they do. They also had nothing to do with their predicament. Unlike the Dark Eldar, who brought about the doom of their race with their excess and behavior, don’t care, continue right along in said bad behavior, and gladly raid and torture others not just to save themselves, but for pleasure.

Super glad to welcome you to Age of Sigmar :D I was an AoS-hater like a lot of people, but the awesome new Nighthaunt faction was my gateway drug into giving it a chance. I realised at some point what GW is trying to do, and I can appreciate it much more from a different point of view. They switched from a tolkienesque fantasy world to a very Dungeons and Dragons-type setting. There really is room to create narratives yourself on a scale never possible with Warhammer Fantasy. It's not going to be for everybody, but it certainly got easy for me to love once I figured that out and got a new perspective.
@staalforsfh5 жыл бұрын
Wait, let me ramble on: The best thing about AoS is the crazy, crazy amount of support GW gives it, even lorewise. You can turn into their social media (or, of course, 2+Tough) every couple of months and hear how the story has progressed. That's great for keeping your interest in the world alive and your wallet empty.

the decision to make Tirion into a deity in the new world baffles me... It would be as though instead of Sigmar the main human diety was suddenly Karl Franz...the one elf truly deserving to be reincarnated as a deity is the one most venerated by all the high elves in Warhammer fantasy, the first and greatest first Phoenix King, Aenarion. he should have returned in the end time and become a deity on the level of Sigmar, Aenarion is basically the elves Sigmar.

Three things, Sparty! 1. Aelf is (or at least should, and if not the my archeology degree means I get to go Indiana Jones on someone at GW's ass) still pronounced Elf. It comes from the æ (ash) symbol of old English. Same with words like Aether. So don't worry, unless GW dropped a ball somewhere, you're pronouncing it fine. 2. Malerion apparently doesn't have anything to do with Seraphon. At least, the one time I said that some guy screamed at me that GW had said in countless interviews that was the case. Since he didn't have the common decency to cite his source and I was never able to FIND any of those countless interviews, I might be giving you wrong information. 3. Magic the Gathering doesn't have portals between worlds (normally), instead having Planeswalkers, people who can just travel from one Plane to another thanks to their Planeswalker's Spark.

@Zeth Wilson space marines are sci fi chaos warriors......
@hildaenjoyer88625 жыл бұрын
@Zeth Wilson Space Marines are mostly 1 dimensional characters who unconditionally worship their Emperor who built them on his own terms. Stormcast are little more than slaves, forced to fight for Sigmar who has built them as a last ditch effort to stop Chaos. Each time they are killed they are brought back to fight once more while their minds and humanity crumble more and more. They essentially are forced to suffer for eternity and the only reasons they don't turn on Sigmar is because their minds are twisted against their wills and because they know Chaos are the biggest threat. Sigmar himself is a good guy but the Stormcast are basically both his greatest tool and his greatest crime. They are far more interesting and nuanced than Marines, sure they look like Marines but Chaos Warriors look pretty close to Chaos Space Marines too.
@hildaenjoyer88625 жыл бұрын
Nagash is such a prick. Sigmar saved him from obscurity and gave him a entire realm to rule. Nagash rewards Sigmar by betraying him twice when Sigmar was desperately battling Chaos and is now pissed that he's having his souls stolen, despite Sigmar using the souls to build the only force capable of challenging Chaos. Maybe if Nagash had a touch of loyalty Sigmar wouldn't be driven to "stealing" his souls in order to fight off the Chaos gods.

I will admit that AoS has helped the fantasy genera, and is not as rigid as Fantasy was when it comes to gameplay. What I still don’t like is that it never seemed to grow it’s own bones. Let’s really think how much of AoS lore could survive if all the Fantasy lore was taken out of it? I also miss the structure of the Old World. I liked knowing where the nations were and how they functioned within themselves and others. Now, in AoS, cities, kingdoms and nations all have the staying power of milk.

I think the thing that turns me off is the foundational lore of AoS. Thinking of Tyrion and Teclis as Gods (despite their imagery being of them as normal elves) and things like that make it all very weird and disconnected. The individual lore is cool and all, but the foundation, I feel, is a bit of a mess at the moment. Like.... how does a chaos god even become captured? Aren't they metaphysical representations of human-like emotions and actions? I always saw the big four as more of an infinite void, using their minions and tiny fractions of themselves in order to influence the warhammer world. But with AoS it's weird. Stuff that shouldn't be defined is defined, and stuff that is defined probably shouldn't be. Even when lore like the Idoneth are undeniably cool, I just remember the background and thus can't get past it. I think the reason Fantasy's lore is better is because everything is a little more grounded.the pantheon of gods is quite varied and feels culturally grounded, there is a better defined world map, etc etc. Ah well. Good thing the Old World is coming out.
@nate7425 жыл бұрын
Alice Arnold Slaanesh may be imprisoned, but his influence still remains. That and his daemons and worshippers still act on his behalf, with some looking for their lost god, while some greater daemons even trying to replace Slaanesh by being pretenders to his throne. Think of it like how Nurgle imprisoned Isha. Their influence doesn’t fully go away.

If Im honest, I enjoy the rules of the game, they are nice, simple and overall enjoyable (except the dread double turn, but that's for another discussion). But I can't get into the lore of Age of Sigmar, it's personal taste of course, but it's way too high fantasy for my taste and I can't get a sense of "place" in AoS. In fantasy I could look at a map, know where everything was clearly, know which journey a warband would take to go from, say, Axe Bite Pass to The Middle Mountains. I have a hard time with that in AoS and it's not enjoyable for me. But anyways, people can enjoy the hobby however they want. I play the new rules, but put my mind in the old world.
