As a native English speaker even I would get a little stressed out with this test because of how specific these questions are but he did great! He spoke pretty fluently and answers everything without hesitation or taking large pauses. The only critique I'd give him is that he says filler words like "really/very" a lot along with "uh/um". Using these words isn't bad per say (I say "uh/um" too when trying to think about what to say next) but constantly saying "really/very" or "really really" two times in a row like at 7:03 can make you sound redundant, and in all honesty, makes the listener lose interest in what the speaker is saying. Most of the time you can just omit the excess word and you will still get your point across ("they had really good food" --> "they had good food") OR you can use a better synonym altogether ("they had really good food" --> "they had delicious food"). Again, I think he did great but this was something I noticed instantly from him.

I have been repeating the exam in hopes of scoring a band 7 in every category. Sometimes the Part 2 question of the speaking portion strains my abilities. If I am familiar with the topic I can answer confidently. Otherwise I struggle to come up with a meaningful answer. Last week the examiner put up a question that asked , "Describe a law that you think would benefit the environment. What is the law? How would people react to the law?" I found this question challenging to answer. Since I only had a minute to think about law and governing, I did not have the best response. Not everyone has an instant answer to every question asked. I am not sure. How would you have answered this question?

Hi, my advise is just try to take it easy. I know you'll be under stress just like everyone right, but try to force yourself to think about it like a conversation between your friend and you, not an exam with an examiner. Coz in the end, the point of this speaking test is just to test your speaking ability to see whether you can be able to communicate or not :) so think about your examiner as your friend, feel free to express your self as natural as you can, use your body language, eye contact, grab a pen in your hand if you're worried too much. I did this a few years ago and got 8.0 for speaking skill so I assume it works :)

it could affect your score as in if u had less to speak about something and you conveyed it way too fast.. then you would stop and will affect your fluency

I'm a native speaker and i don't have pause as he did during the exam, but i usually only get 8-8.5. Apparently the bias of the examiner (e.g. racism) plays a big part in the marking of ielts speaking.

I really wish these examiners would learn how to interrupt someone politely and effectively. I understand the time restrictions, but you're interacting with another human being for goodness sake, so you should at least muster up the effort to speak to them like one. Just a "Sorry, I must stop you there." or "Apologies, that's all the time we have for part 1." It doesn't use up much time, and it really goes a long way.

Classic halo effect because he is charismatic and confident. There is no way this should be a 9. I saw another guy score a much worse 6.5 recently despite having a much wider vocabulary and articulating his thoughts more clearly. This guy is definitely still proficient but not to the extent he should be classified as someone having complete mastery of the language/native-like speaking which is what this score indicates.

His English was definitely a C2. This test is really not that big of deal. Having a C2 doesn’t mean you speak like a native. It means you’ve got a very advanced level of English and you master the language well enough to live, work, study, etc. in an English speaking setting.
@xdgaming9523 жыл бұрын
he was really good at speaking and well confident too! The only problem i think was, he wasn't using much of the vocabulary plus he was speaking too fast, there was time in part 2 where he thought he could stop but the time wasn't up

I think it doesn't depend on how much vocabulary you say or like complex and hard ones it depends on how much you know about a specific topic and how fluent you are
@user-gz7nt7cs3i3 жыл бұрын
You've hit the nail on the head. His fluency is 9 indeed, but his vocab range in Part 2 is really A2 rather than C1- C2, nothing higher level than big, good and bad
@user-gz7nt7cs3i3 жыл бұрын
@@habebaaglan2606 an absolutely false assumption. In IELTS you are not assessed for the knowledge, but for fluency, coherence, a variety of vocab and a range of grammar. If you are fluent, but use primitive language, you might get 8- 9 exactly for fluency, but 5-6 for lexis and grammar.
@punkgrl3253 жыл бұрын
@@user-gz7nt7cs3i This guy is easily around B2 in vocabularly. I think he just has a habit of falling back on certain safe words, which as you stated, is kind of bad for the IELTS. He is still solidly Band 9 though, coming from a native speaker. I think L2 English learners tend to heavily overestimate how much vocabularly we use on a regular basis.
