Band 4
This candidate attempts to keep going, but is unable to do so because of noticeable pauses, frequent self-correction and breakdowns in coherence. She links some ideas, but uses simple connectives repetitively. Her range of vocabulary is sufficient for only very limited discussion of unfamiliar topics. She makes errors in word choice and she is frequently imprecise (something like that; not just argue something). She has some control of basic sentence forms, but there are frequent errors or incomplete structures and few attempts at complex sentences. She is able to produce some acceptable features of pronunciation, but there are more than occasional mispronunciations, some of which cannot be understood. Stress and intonation patterns are severely distorted, causing strain for the listener.
She is a good example of candidate performance at this Band 4 level.

It's really hard to be in there shoes.If we just watch them and listen to them,we felt it just simple as it was.but when we are in the actual situation,maybe we can't fight the feeling of nervousness.lucky to those who practiced English or used English at home and in school since they are young.

My friend atm needs a 4.5 overall band score and it actually helps a lot to see how long it would take him to be close to this level

I think that taking the IELTS test is an important step in order to achieve a study offer abroad. In that sense, I believe that those who pay the test fees and travel to other city or even abroad so to take the test, should take more care about look for support materials and information related to the IELTS. I mean, one should try to be keen enough in Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking before take the IELTS. The internet offers loads of useful guides, videos, audio podcasts, examples tests, etc. Additionally, when you make an appointment to take the test, you receive a briefly on-line course given by the British Council.

This was the easiest topic... The examiner tried her best to give the candidate enough clues and drag her on the topic again and again and tried to direct her towards the answers where she could have enough elements to talk about.

Trust me, she doesn't. That's just her job! In part 3, test-takers are required to debate and discuss fairly complex issues to show their coherence in thinking, versatile of use vocab and the ability to voice her opinion in a somewhat sophisticated conversation. This student didn't understand the question and band 4 is fair for her.

Good luck! It is difficult to prepare for the interview because they can ask anything. Look for ielts books online. just keep talking and explain your thoughts. they ask why for everything.

After watching few examples of how IELTS speaking test is conducted I can emphasize that the questions are purposely designed to evaluate the psychological response of the examinees to the most of uninteresting topics and the mark is based on the accumulation of vocabularies, nature of ideas, the harmony between your vocabularies and the nature of ideas you give, and last but not least how fast it takes from you to do all this.

Answer needs to be full length and it should be appropriate.Hesitations and if you pause for a time, it doesn't matter.I got 7.5 bands in speaking and I made mistake but my answer was in full length.

4.0 is a bit harsh in this case; more often than not this exact performance would score a 4.5., although her Coherence/Clarity score would definitely be lower.

Interviewer's questions were above the level of communication for the student. The student is clearly very smart but hasn't got the vocabulary to express what she intends. It was obviously stressful for the student who was trying very hard.

I don't wanna seem tough, but I lose my ability to speak when listen to these kind of people(( I think, the easiest way to get a really nice score in speaking is trying to write your answers during your preparation.. Moreover, there is another key to get a good result.. You should speak like native speaker as much as you can... Now many people will critisize me that I'm wrong and bla bla bla.. But I assure that this is really important aspect in marking. I know an occasion when certain person who doesn't know english quite well but he got a high mark only because of enjoyable prononcuation. That's kind of illusion for examinators.

Dear DODO NYC, It doesn't matter what level of difficulty the question is, as long as it isn't insanely technical or specialized. If you are good at English, you will come up with something to say. If you have lots of ideas and information, but little English, you will fall flat. If you have a high level of English, yet are ignorant of the world or the topic, you can push through, make a good answer. It's not the question that determines your success or failure, it's your ability in English.

I do understand how you’re feeling while you were preparing your basic conversation after the examiner ask you the questions. By the way, there are quite many different problems as you answer the questions by mentioning an incomplete structure all the time without finding any solutions to correct her basic pronounciation first and obviously she haven’t perform a role from televisions programme and even youtube comments from United Kingdom. Yeah, any possible words they designed from England is really making sense and appropriate when someone dare to write anything may convince another english speaker to follow the generations of the newest english around the world. I must keep boosting my current english level to be an advance level if it is possible. at least my english proficiency isn’t totally disaster but to realise everything i told maybe presented to the examiner is not really perfect enough because i am going to tell examiner too much words if the answers is not related to the current topic.
